Overall- need to learn to play under control. Need to play better near the basket / finish at the rim. Situational awareness needs work. Refs sucked. Kofi changes that game drastically. BU can get them to gel throughout the year and when he does this team will be dangerous.

Trent- would hate to see the score if he wasn't so hot from 3. Had a couplebad turnoves not counting the end of game which we could've played better as well.

DMW- great energy. No offense, but didn't force it either. Decent game for him.

Payne- terrible turnovers. Offense outside of wide open dunks needs work.

Hawkins- terrible turnovers. Played pretty decent other than that.

Grandy- played well for the most part. Would have liked to see the ball in his hands more down the stretch.

Plummer- only played 11 minutes. Liked how he didn't force his shot but i would've liked to see him get some more good looks.

BBV- needs a ton of work playing offense near the basket.

Curbelo didn't play THAT bad. Wasn't a big fan of his defense, stupid fouls were infuriating, needs to get back on D instead of whining to refs, and he had a few poor shot selections. I thought he did a good job getting the ball to bigs in the post and it ended poorly early on (different story with kofi) and I feel like that jaded him down the stretch. First time he got blocked there was a clear reach from behind (no call of course) and incidental contact that tripped him up and resulted in zero elevation at the rim. Second block was a clear path to the hoop and he was extremely close to getting it on the backboard before getting stuffed. I feel his eyes are elsewhere if kofi is lurking down there as well. He had a fair amount of drives where he got his shot off around the rim and they just didn't fall (not counting that terrible spinning layup attempt). Rewatching the game I was surprised how many attempts he took that I didn't hate, but he needs to realize when they are not falling he needs to facilitate more. Rewatching the tape I was surprised how many turnovers, or almost turnovers that just looked sloppy, should have been fouls. Again, he needs to realize he isn't getting calls and change his play in those instances. He had a bad game for sure, but it was not nearly as bad as he is getting blamed for. I was as mad as anyone watching it live with my heart, but watching it a second time and slowing some plays down it didn't seem nearly as bad.

Curbello’s play and attitude were concerning. But more concerning is the lack of coaching adjustments. We all knew pressure D was going to be thrown at us. Definitely not the end of the season but surely concerning with how last season ended and lack of in game adjustment. But let’s be positive for the team! Go Illini

Truly hope Belo bounces back from this. That was just brutal to watch and concerning as well. Trent with a nice game. Once we got the lead to 12 we just got really sloppy, again. This time the refs seemed to help as well and we just did everything we could to give that game to Shaka's team. Only beef with Coach is they did not call a TO for one last play after are last 4 minutes of poor offense.

Since we have already blamed everyone else in the world I’ll take a couple shots too:

1. The refs were so ticky tack it blew away any chance to gain momentum. I hate hate hate Bo boroski games. I automatically know each game of ours is going to be close and dumb.

2. Damonte with that bonehead last minute foul trying to rip the ball away from Lewis when he already had the rebound. Put them up to down 1. Stupid stupid stupid

Number 2 did not happen. The guy missed both FTs.

I have no concerns what-so-ever; 3rd game in a long season. This loss won't mean a thing by the time B1G season starts. Everyone relax! Big difference with Kofi; Kuath doesn't hang around the rim and block everything with Kofi in the middle!

When Trent lost the ball at center court the kid just ran into the ball and his leg knocked it away. He did not strip the ball.
Looks like it hit off his shin.

I get why they wouldn't have called a kick. There didn't appear to be intent. Nor did it look like it hit his foot.

Shin/foot are considered the same as far as I can tell.

Admittedly, I didn't know there had to be intent, which is insane because then you're asking the referees to read the minds of the player when they can't even figure out what's going on in their own heads.

I avoided post-game posting last night. Just turned everything off and read a book.

Regarding Belo, I made a throwaway comment recently that we start six: two of those players are Good and Bad Belo. I said I was confident those personalities would fuse early in the season. Still am.

He has a lot of talent and obviously needs to understand that his role (and highest value) is to distribute the ball and create plays. I can't imagine he feels good about himself this morning. He'll be fine, and so will the team. If I don't see a dramatically different Belo against Cincy I'll be shocked. One thing this team has to learn this month and next is how to play without Ayo, to whom they could all turn at crunch time in a tight game and depend on to carry them. They don't have anyone like that anymore, which requires a big adjustment.

Oh, and 26 turnovers?! That can't happen again, and I don't believe it will, either. Mind-boggling.

Woke up this morning feeling lousy .....even the fact that NL # 5 is staying a couple more days hasn't improved my disposition , so i got my medical book out and looked for an answer.....and I found it ...

I am suffering from BQTBS.....................let me explain......................

B = Bo
Q = Quick
T = Twitch
B = Bowel
S = Syndrome

Side effects are........

diarrhea
headaches
disorientation
lack of appetite
pissed off attitude
grumpy disposition
cussing incessantly
googling Bo Boroski over and over again

really cussing after the googling

If you have any of these symptoms , go directly to your stash box and fire one up.....it doesn't take away the remorsefulness you have but it does dull the pain somewhat..........

Hope this helps.......

Last thing I will say about Belo from this game. Ayo averaged 12 shot attempts per game last year. Cousy-winner, First Team AA, current NBA player, best closer in college basketball Ayo. 12. There is literally no situation in which I want Belo taking 18 shot attempts in a game. Zero.

I've said my piece. Onto Cincy. Go Illini!
He averaged 15.4 last year, nearly 12 his freshmen year, I get your point though, 18 is still too many.

The best player in the country is back, lets beat Cincy and Arkansas and we'll be right back on track!

Yes I’m disappointed in Belo’s performance but what really surprised me is BU seemingly being out coached so badly. I would expect at least a time out to settle down, some in game adjustments, and better preparation from one of the higher paid coaches in the country.

Uh, this whole thread is people bagging on Curbelo, many of whom are happily confirming prior opinions that mostly involve being unhappy at the cut of his jib. When someone says “CAN WE STOP THIS NONSENSE ABOUT CURBELO PLAYING IN THE NBA?” that person clearly thought that Curbelo didn’t deserve the praise he was getting, and they’re using this game to make that known again.

He did not play a good game. But he’s been a magnet for criticism since the day he arrived, and not all of that criticism has been reasonable.
Dude we all love the kid but his decision making is brutal. Period. No need to sugar coat it.

Everyone can have a bad game but the worst thing Curbelo did all night was complain to the refs. He needs to just play ball and keep his trap shut.
I think the worst thing he did all night was, if anyone noticed, about half way through the 2nd half stood there in the paint hands up trying to take a charge. The Marquette player avoided him and missed the layup. He got his own rebound and put it in. Curbelo was still standing there with his hands up trying to make a scene. He could have had that rebound and saved us 2 points, instead he's standing there hands up ignoring the play.

He has got to get that crap out of his head. This is not a circus performance. We're not here to see the most inventive passes that not even his teammates see coming or a weaving worming drive that baffles the crowd. We're not here to see you whine on every play and ignore the action. When your opponent is going the other way, it is not the time to stand there whining. Whine after the play if you must.

I can forgive trying to do too much. It is a problem that needs to be fixed, but at least you're trying to do something good. The theatrics and whining while ignoring the game and leaving your teammates 4 on 5 is unacceptable.

Did anyone expect anything else but this type of meltdown, whether right or wrong, after that game? We have waited so long, and this team is busting at the seams with potential. I think I was more disappointed than mad cause you see what they could be. Not ready to jump off the train though.

I think belo will figure it out, but he needs to realize that the only person who could stop TF from scoring was him. The switch to being the leader of the team is rough, and he is going to have to eat this performance. Hope he uses this to his advantage. Looking forward to bouncing back next week, still think were a solid team that will make a deep run in the tourney.

Can not keep dragging this game in the ground need to learn from there mistakes and correct them. It’s still early in the season your going have these games from time to time need figure what is going work for the players on floor you have.

Painful loss, but they are kids, and they know they didn't play like they should, but don't need the armchair QBs to tell them. There will always be games we should have won, and will always be games we should have lost. That's what makes sports great.

At least we are going to whip Iowa's a$$ in football this weekend!!!!

I was surprised that BU didn't coach the last several minutes. It was almost as if he was saying - "Okay kid if you go win it then go win it. But if you don't we are going to have a whole lot of "Teachable moments" that we will go over and over and over between now and the next game." I've never seen BU as passive as he was last night and there had to be a reason for it. Chester is going to have some serious conversations with 5.
