Maryland 84, Illinois 59 POSTGAME

JCL can't play a lick of defense, thus he needs to be used as an offensive weapon off the bench.

Tate is not a threat on offense, thus he needs to be available to give breathers to TJL and Abrams when needed.

Starters:
TJL
Abrams
Hill
Black
Morgan

We have to play these guys again in two weeks.

Illini will beat MD next game- Will have time to shake off the Christmas Dinners and adjust.

The Price of Poker just went up Illini Nation !

I'm not a Tate hater and respect his heart. Lucas is faster and plays at a better pace. He provides things Tate does not. He should get Tate's minutes going Sunday.

What was with Tracy's shot today? He did not start and was locked on the front of the rim with his 3 point shot. If he makes a third of his shots we only lose by 10. If he shoots like that Sunday we are in big trouble.

Nichols did not do anything to earn Sunday minutes.

I'm not sure if you can draw any conclusion from kipper getting a few garbage minutes, but he did score just as many points as Tracy, I believe

As it stands, this team is unwatchable. Groce needs to make some changes because giving Tate, JCL and Thorne a lot of minutes is not going to get him into the tourney which will probably cost him his job.

Lucas
Abrams
Hill
Black
Morgan

Isn't Groce always preaching "players play players"? I must not understand what that means...

Glad I decided to go to a movie with the wife, instead of watching this game.

Because the other teams are packing in the paint and taking that pass away, because they don't have to guard our point guard for 30 mins a game...

It's the same reason we struggle to get open shots while other teams seem to get open looks with ease. Every payer on our team has to beat 1.2 defenders to get open, except for one of them obviously

It's almost comical at this point. I like JG, but if he continues to try to play this way it will cost him his job, and if it gets to that point I'll help him pack, because he will deserve to have been fired

Other teams get open looks with ease because we play NO defense. That is a bigger problem than Tate.

the saddest thing about this is State Farm Center looks real nice, but think all we see this year are lot of empty blue seats!! who wants to pay to see this crapfest game after game! Embarrassing!

At the end of the game today they started talking about Northwestern making the tournament and Illinois not making it and how bad that would be. Never thought those words would be spoken in my lifetime. Thank you Weber/Groce.

We don't play good defense, there's no debating that. The problem is we play no defense AND we also play 4 on 5 on offense. One of those two things can be fixed immediately, the other could take a while. We can't give up the advantage on both ends of the court.

We knew coming into this season that defense was going to be suspect and that we were going to have to make up for it by outscoring the other team. That ain't happening playing 4 vs 5.

I agree with everything you said except the last sentence. This is no longer close to being on Weber. Groce has had 5 years to turn things around and they're worse now than when he got here. It's his program and the blame should rest on him; not his predecessor.

I wouldn't say worse, but the results on the court definitely aren't any better. One could argue recruiting is going better, but if there aren't any results on the court that won't last long either

I don't agree that we are playing 4 on 5. When Tate is in he often has the ball and teams are pressuring him. I agree that we should be looking at other options because he is shaky and can't score but the 4 on 5 thing is overblown.

Disagree. Every time he is in they can sag off him and essentially double team whomever is the biggest scoring threat. That drastically affects our potential on offense.

They play Tate like he's a 7ft 275lb brick layer. Just daring him to shoot it.

Groce had to expend considerable energy to get the talent level back up, giving him a pass the last several years. Now we finally get to condemn his coaching ability. That could have been happening earlier if not for the lack of talent excuse.

We are absolutely 4 on 5 on our offensive end. If Tate gets the ball, a mysterious Pokémon mirage could block his shots.

He is useless on the offensive end. We are totally 4 on 5 there with Tate in the game.

They can! They don't! At least not until we start moving and that doesn't happen much either.

I agree with those that think TJL should be out there. I see so many other teams playing freshmen but not Illinois. The same Illinois that is working on 4 straight years of no NCAA. Play the kid!

I don't know if the effort shown by most of the first 7 or the bullheaded refusal to put some hungry players in the gàme before it got completely out of hand makes me madder. I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet but it's in my hand.

Well, no more cool aid for me. I am throwing in the towel. NO offense, NO defence, NO coaching. I feel bad for Tracy and Malcom when they have worked so hard. I've been a fan for over 30 years and I am not wasting my time with this dumpster fire anymore. I hope somehow you all can stay positive, but you can stick a fork in this program, it has not been relevant for over a decade. Bye.

That I agree with! Abrams and TJL should be getting the lions share of minutes at PG.

What I saw today:

1. No defense
2. No shooting
3. No passing
4. No quickness
5. No rebounding

Other than that, not bad.
