So there's nothing good about them then.

I thought we looked plenty athletic vs Iowa, specifically in making some difficult catches of Tomi passes, dunking, moving without the ball, skying for rebounds.

I gotta say, the "they have low IQ" type of comments are probably the most offensive of comments in a long list of offensive comments by message-board experts that they'd never say to a coach's or player's face (such as if they were a journalist).
Fair enough. I personally think I said something about them playing dumb. Do I think any of them are stupid? Far from it. Each one of them know more about the game than I ever will. But letting lack of energy and focus get you smoked is a dumb thing to do. Is that a less offensive way to put it?

This wasn’t about IQ, it was about getting punched in the mouth and mentally being rocked the WHOLE game, except for Will, thought he bounced back. KJ had good effort, just not strong enough with the ball. That’s where you need a Chester or Sincere to play against every day.

I went through his game log, in 30 games KJ had 0 or 1 TO in 4 games. Number of games where he had 5 or more was 11. You can't have one of your two primary ball handlers be that turnover prone and expect to have any consistency. Maybe I'm way off but I just don't see how you can rationally justify him as a lottery pick, unless you're just blindly betting on upside/potential. I don't see anything "elite" about his game at all.

Amazing some of our so called 'fans' don't know this. Makes me wonder about the people on this forum some times.
Relax Slim. Yeah, we won last year, but when I said it seems like Gary Willaims was coaching the last time we won, the point was, it feels like we've been getting our rear end kicked by these guys for years......and we have. Sorry I didnt follow it up with a "/s" so you could tell i was being /s.

We are 3-15 in the last 18 matchups. In other words, we have 3 wins against them since Jan. of 2015. 3 WINS IN 10 YEARS! Here's a tip, don't waste your time wondering about this "so called" fan.

Brad can pay players now. Completely different game being played at Illinois. Can’t compare his advantages to prior coaches

You are correct. We looked athletic and dominant versus Iowa. Maryland is a totally different animal.

Expect in one hand and $h1t in the other the other, tell me which one fills up first. “fan” is short for “fanatic”. A “fanatic” is defined as a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, for a particular reason or cause. Things are not rosy, but “fans” support their team through thick and thin.

If Groce could have paid players to come play for him they might have. It's not like Underwood is some kind of genius coach, he just gets to pay players to play. When he has tough, dedicated, experienced players and good assistants his teams do better than when he has young finesse players and his little boy and his boy's friend are the assistants in charge.
If Maryland didn't have a game tomorrow they might have beaten us by more than 43.

Defense, Defense, Defense should be the only focus in practice for the rest of the week annd moving forward. Brad has to take over scouting reports and schemes the rest of the way. !!!! Hamer and his elementary game plans. Something as simple as weak side help and showing on drivers to slow them down and make them give up the ball are not being executed. Crazy. Brad teams traditionally known for toughness, defense and rebounding. The only thing we have done well this year is rebound. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I knew immediately after posting that you’d take issue with it :)

Its the fans that are ok with soley making the tournament that are the cancer. They're enabling mediocrity from a program with much more potential. A real fan calls it how it is, those people are love blind. They're the problem. Its why John Scheyer picked Duke because they compete for national and not conference championships. And those are the SAME fans that despised him for saying that. They must know nothing about competition.

You know what they say..."You'll have some fools, some tools, and some Jules" :ROFLMAO:
Having new fans isn't a bad thing though. Would this be happening in the mid 2010's?

Where in my post did I reference records or kenPom? The only thing I mentioned was the effort. Reading is fundamental. BTW, Groce's teams had a reason to have no effort when there was no chance at ANY tourney. If you have NCAA tourney aspirations, you don't roll over in the first five minutes. I've always valued effort above all else was and when I see a team as talented and supported as this team, there is no reason for max effort EVERY game, and yes, that IS embarrassing.

First, I know when I'm embarrassed. Second, Groce's teams were not good enough to get to the NCAA tournament, so getting down and giving up should not surprise anyone, and DEFINITELY should not be the yardstick this team is measured against. This team has extreme talent, resources and one of the best fan bases in the nation.
Here's another perspective, I get annoyed when this team phones it in. Win or lose I value effort and saw none tonight. I've been following since 1977 and I've seen great wins and awful loses, but it's the effort that I appreciate.
BTW, we're supposed to be a pretty good team too.

I am not able to attend many games in person and timeouts typically mean commercials so I rarely get to see what happens in the huddle during timeouts.

Throughout this season, comments have been made about Tyler and Hamer being the X's and O's coaches for the team. I'm an older guy and I realize technology has infiltrated all of sports at varying degrees.

Can anyone weigh in on how many teams in our conference are doing something similar to what we have been doing? Do Izzo and Painter sit back and have their assistants handle strategy, etc., during timeouts? And, if they do, are they delegating this huge responsibility to assistants who have zero experience and are only a couple years older than the roster? I'm not criticizing this, I'm genuinely trying to understand if this is the new normal for CBB.

In my younger days, when I would attend most of the home games, I never recall anyone but the HC leading the discussion during timeouts.

I've been up all night , but not because of the game.........we have had sirens going off for almost 5 hours now with thunderstorms and tornado warnings all over here in western KY........It's finally passed by me but I can't sleep with all the commotion......

the Illini game is what it is , another game where we got outplayed by a more physical team .........we were short on so many layups and shots within 5 ft of the rim.......we also had way to many shots blocked by not taking it hard to the rim and shooting off balance shots.......if we make it to the second weekend then that means we got a favorable seed and a matchup with a less physica; team than we are , if any exist........you could tell early on that we were uncomfortable with their style of play..........

how the Illini can look so good one night and then so lost the next night is so confusing to me.....it really really is........

I agree with other posters thinking KJ has played his way out of being a lottery pick and maybe even a draft pick at all......his play since his wrist injury has been an assortment of numerous turnovers and questionable low BB IQ play.....but we all know the NBA exec's draft on potential most of the time........I firmly believe KJ needs at least one or two more years with the Illini as Ayo did......
his handle is loose with the ball and he seems to be trying to make the " wow " play instead of good fundamental plays.....

There has to be an abrupt change in the AC staff asap after the season ends........Hamer , Jones are surely gone and I still think it would be the best for all parties if Tyler left also.........BU needs to a full time coach instead of a tutor for TU........

I have a lot of other thoughts but I am too pizzed off about the game and exhausted from worrying about all the tornado warnings to continue......I really really am...........................

The core problems are we can’t shoot and we can’t stop hot shooters. If we match MD 3% it’s a 2 point game. If we don’t get 20 OR against Iowa, we lose. Athletic guards and two big rebounders hurt us. I feel like the zone worked a couple times- maybe try it a half earlier. Also- how about we use Fran to teach shooting like football used Leonard?

A game to forget, that's for sure. I didn't even watch the last quarter. Boswell is a stud and we'll have to build around him next season. Now let's just wait and see what happens in the NCAA tourney.
