I would completely understand if he wanted to test NFL draft , but with NIL , he’s a guy who could really make decent money by using his redshirt for an extra year while raising his staff status for the next year
I'd love to see him come back and agree w/you that it would likely be a win-win. That said, his combine performance is a huge variable that will impact his decision. I have to believe he's going to interview very well as BB seems to do a great job w/culture, and his guys are almost always prepared and on message. If he gets feedback that he's going to be chosen before the end of day 2 then he should go, but if he doesn't, we should pay him and happily welcome him back.

Think Bailey has a chance to be a monster ILB in the NFL. Add another 10-15 pounds and definitely think he'll be a long time starter with a run of years at or near the top of his position. It's a great projection IMO. Position versatile and a real enforcer for a defense.

Not a bad thought - Why didn't WE let him grow into an ILB?

He has the athleticism to play S as well, especially moreso in college and more specifically this Illini scheme which his position is a decent percentage of LB/LB responsibilities. He definitely made a major impact in numerous big Illini wins over past the years.

This position has a chance to elevate even more after Sydney Brown who was a third rounder and Bailey who should be a draft pick whenever he goes NFL with Karriem, etc. And Eberhart should be an absolute terror. Can't harp enough how good they'll be with him, Hankins, etc. in that secondary.

I do think he could've made a big impact at LB as well. There are several guys still here who are pretty good in their current position, but could potential be better at another. It's a good situation to have and why you recruit these high level athletes.

Such a shame for Bailey. He’s had tough luck on the injury front and this likely won’t help his draft stock.

I have nothing but good things to say for Bailey, however I dont think that he is a good enough player for the nfl. Might make special teams or practice squad but it will be a very short nfl career. He would be better off collecting a college paycheck for another year before giving it a try. Unless Canada or the XFL is his next step.

Currently NFL scouts and Bret Bielema disagree with you

Not doing that but if he leaves they think he will be a drafted. (I expect him back just my hunch)

Thanks and at least you, me and GMAN55 agree, "He would be better off collecting a college paycheck for another year before giving it a try."
