Hill actually played pretty defense last year. One of the few on the team that did.

Yep, I remember that Ohio State game where he just totally shut down Jesean (sp?) Tate. I guess I should have said improved defense. To me, that's just one of the easiest areas to determine athleticism. Hey, if he starts throwing down jams left and right I won't complain, though. :thumb:

that might be a side effect of your vert increasing 6+ inches at 6'6

That one reporter usually does the funny video interviews with the Illini players, does anyone have a link to that?

One reporter with one question about our Illini. Expectations are officially low. My orange-tinted crystal ball says watch out B1G. Clearly you're not prepared for what's coming your way this season. Boom.:illinois:

I saw a couple preseason conference predictions that had us in the lower half. Anyone know what the highest is?

8th is the highest I've seen. I do think we are being underrated a bit but I also don't expect us to be competing for the Big Ten championship.

I'm sorry but we are better than the 8th team in the Big Ten. I actually feel pretty good about this years squad. I think we will for sure finish in the top half to the Big Ten, I wouldn't put it past this team to finish top 5 in the Big Ten this year.

I think most reporters look at our roster and believe that we're underrated but until Illinois can show that we can meet or exceed expectations, we're not going to get much respect. It's similar to why Wisky is always predicted to be in the top 4. No matter how they look on paper, history is usually a stronger predictor.

The predictions are slowly trickling out. The composite B10 beat writers predictions usually come out today. So far the Illini preseason predictions...

Lindys 8
NBC Sports 8

I'm shocked at the amount of questions asked of Coach Groce. Can not a one of the "journalists" in that room think of something to ask him?! That's pathetic

It easy to tell from the player interviews how much both players have matured over the last few years. This should be a really good year for the team.

I would enhance it to say stronger than most guards and some bigs, more athletic than most bigs and some guards. Which is probably what a 3 should be anyway, right?

Would bet MH is lifting more weight than the average starting center in D1 basketball. His maxes are fantastic, and it will show during contact. Would also bet most starting D1 guards cannot jump 38". The vertical is a surprisingly good summary of sheer athleticism. 45"-50" is considered almost inhuman, and almost 40" is not too shabby.

IMO MH is no Lebron James, but against college players he kind of is.
I will expect some apologies if he plays like a beast. ;)

Just because he lifts more weight does not guarantee that his functional basketball strength will be better than a 6'10 250 big man somewhere. Weight room numbers can be harder to attain for taller/longer people because the distance they have to move the weight is greater, and works against them.

Athletically, no doubt Malcolm has legit bounce at a 38 inch vert. However, athleticism also encompasses speed, agility and quickness. How many of his teammates do you think he beats in a 3/4 court sprint? Or a lane agility drill? (Both used by the NBA to test athleticism) I'd put him middle of the pack on both and we don't even have that athletic of a team. (I'd consider an athletic team to have the personnel to press full time, even if they chose not to)

That was sort of annoying. Lol. He was determined to push the redshirt for Lucas.
