I asked #illini coach Brad Underwood what he needed in Class of 2017.

His response: "Someone taller than me."

Asked Underwood about Antigua hiring. Said he and Whitman had deliberate vetting process. Underwood very confident in Antigua's character.

Antigua said that he wouldn't be here if Whitman and Underwood weren't OK with what happens at USF.

Can someone please tell that kid from Newstalk 100 WDWS to STOP putting the microphone in their face. That is so annoying, and I'm surprised someone hasn't told him to move it down.

It was cool to learn from Coleman that UIC adopted and applied Underwoods defense and had success with it.

Love the staff and agree that they are all likely future HCs in the near future.

There's a good gif of the reporter standing behind BWood, specifically the last minute or so

Definitely a big thing. For those worried about whether the assistants would be able to help BU run his system they are obviously more knowledgeable than many thought.

After watching all the interviews, I too am excited about each of these coaches. Chin really seemed confident in his abilities and seems that he KNOWS he is going to help in Chicago, but I don't think that is all he has to offer. He truly seems like he is a coach that can help at this level.

It was interesting that he said he used Underwood's Defense at UIC. So now we can rest easy; we have a coach that doesn't have to learn EVERYTHING new! We have our defensive coordinator!

Coach O seems like a guy that just knows he is the MAN when it comes to recruiting. He can use charm and give people the answers they need to hear.

One of the big things I took away from Coach Underwood's interview was that he is a big "feel guy." This is a complete 180 from Coach Groce. Groce was all about stats and analytics. So if a player is supposed to come out at the 16:00 mark, then he comes out! I'm guessing Coach will have a sub pattern (like all coaches do) but if a player is hot and has 12 points in the first 4 minutes, he isn't coming out.

Chin Coleman: "I'm really, really, really living the dream."

It's good to see someone like that coming in with some Illinois/Fighting Illini back story.I'm amused as well that he's coached and won at every level, apparently teaching kids to dribble before they can walk. :thumb:

The more I hear from this guy, the better I like him!
Great on the interview, has a great resume'. I like the insistence on fundamentals and overall physical fitness. And of course, all those great things he says about the students, fans and alumni. Obviously an astute individual.

It would be nice to be able to get those last few positions on the team and then let's see what they can do together on the court.
