I heard new scoreboard, audio system, and ribbon boards from someone with a work order to install them
That score board isn't even that old. It was installed after the west side renovations as I recall. I think it was during or shortly after my time as a student..or maybe I'm just old now too

Can we get like a few thousand dollars for some temp bleachers to bring the Horseshoe seats to field level? Instead of even better ribbon boards? Lol.

And I hate the Horseshoe as much as anyone, but to leave it standing as is AND cut the trees behind it down?! I’m bewildered. We have to make our own natural scenery in Champaign, and trees are the only option!!

That would be interesting if true. I thought that project got pushed down the road a little? Seems like an awfully short timeline for normal University work. Guess we will find out soon because if this is it, they need to get moving.

I've posted about this before, but this would seriously be SUCH an easy fix and would help the stadium aesthetically until something can be done ... you could even get wheeled ones that can be moved when needed. As a reminder, we had these temporary bleachers BEHIND the Horseshoe until like 2011, and they added just over 2,000 seats onto the last rows of the Horseshoe and made the structure look a bit taller/less dinky from inside the stadim:

Those have to be dirt cheap. Literally just do the opposite of what is shown in that photo; instead of putting them BEHIND the current Horseshoe structure and leaving the obnoxious gap behind the end zone, put them in FRONT and shape them to fill that gap. Anyone who thinks this is not doable should consider that ... we have LITERALLY done it in the past, lol, and this TINY change makes Memorial Stadium look a lot more complete:

The one and only thing that could have made this better would be a photo of Bielema giving the "T" signal.

And then having South Carolina play a game here so Shane would be able to relive that moment.

(Side note - I think this will close my "trolling of Shane Beamer" and I'll change my avatar description.)

My first thought as well!

One of my guilty pleasures is going on Reddit to troll South Carolina fans. I don't plan on giving that up anytime soon.

The exiting after games from that area is abysmal (and dangerous should there be an emergency) perhaps they are moving some things around to improve that? But even if that is the case, they could work around the trees.

I am with @Fighter of the Nightman, I would like to see the horseshoe 'closed' by adding temporary or permanent bleachers in that gap, leave a small tunnel in the middle for the band and stuff to get in and out. This would add about 2000 seats to the capacity, for a low cost.

I don't think that's it. My Beer Garden guess wouldn't require tree removal either so.....there does that theory. I like it though.

Maybe the ribbon thing is coming pre-new scoreboard. I have a hard time believing they will replace the entire scoreboard before the end of August and that it hasn't leaked out.

It has to be something as they know full well cutting down a few pine trees would cause some in the CU community to blow a gasket.

He captures the root cause of their raging disappointment. It was about far more than this one game. We abruptly laid bare the fallacy of SEC superiority, forcing them to puke up the Koolade they’d been living on for years as SEC bottom feeders. Reality hit them pretty hard.

you can enlarge the scoreboard a bit without needing to take the old one down . those video boards are made up of many rectangular potions of a size around 4’x8’ (or so).

if they wanted to add another 8’ of width on each side ( to sell more ad space ) it would require a bit of work , but nothing close to the amount needed to replace the whole thing

just a guess .

I thought I heard some rumblings about A/V upgrades. Probably here at home on Loyalty.
I believe it was mentioned that parts are unavailable/obsolete for the current setup.

Jeff Johnson says the rumor is a new scoreboard and sound system going in the south endzone. A while ago someone also said his buddy was quoting work for what was to be a scoreboard.

We shall see but it makes the most sense. I just don't get how it happens in time. The University is not known for moving anything other than at a sloths pace.

The fact that it was decided that this scoreboard simply HAD to be replaced before a single thing was done to fix up the Horseshoe is mind boggling.

Is it the biggest or newest scoreboard in the conference? No. However, it stacks up perfectly reasonably with the likes of Iowa, Wisconsin, MSU, Nebraska, etc. It's also annoying that you just know part of the budget for this is to plaster stupid 1LL1NO1S font all over it. :ROFLMAO:

Hold on. Maybe they're adding to it, as Mr. Tibbs thought could be a possibility. Maybe Watchfire is doing some add on work along with an improved sound system?

Wasn't that scoreboard done relatively recently anyways? The Add-on/Upgrades sound about right I think...
