To my knowledge, there’s never been a college football victory overturned after the fact. It didn’t change the outcome of the game itself, but it was a nightmare for casinos as it changed the outcome of the spread.

In baseball we had the Pine Tar Bat game where the Yankees victory over The Royals was overturned and George Brett’s disallowed home run was later allowed to stand and the final innings had to be replayed.

I’m skeptical the Michigan/WMU result will be overturned, but if there ever was a case where it reasonably could be, it’s this one.

This will be my last post on this topic since the horse has long since been beaten to death. Screenshot from the video you posted below. I've circled where the ball is. It's hard to see in the freezeframe and easier to see when you go through the video frame by frame - you can see the ball coming down into the endzone and the players clearly reacting to it.

I've also circled the clock. It clearly says 0:01. Hopefully that isn't up for debate.

From the point of this freezeframe to the point the clock goes to 0:00 is at least 8 frames. Based on how fast the ball is going, it's max 3 frames until it touches the players hands (based on all the other angles of the play).

That's it. that's all i'm looking at. The stadium clock and when the ball touches the players' hand.

Now I'll agree that if what the rules expert was saying that if there is a discrepancy, the replay booth should go with what the video shows to avoid the appearance of impropriety to the viewers, then perhaps the replay booth made a mistake. But they made a mistake by going with the correct call, not by making the wrong call.

It depends on your definition of decent. If we're comparing it to other games that have been played under protest, then yeah, decent works. Problem. It's never happened and based on what I'm seeing, there's really no avenue.

Instead, the MAC's appeal is strictly a political and bureaucratic move asking the CFP selection committee to "recognize" Western Michigan as the winner solely for rankings, evaluations, and postseason bowl selection purposes later this winter."

This is what you have to go by which clearly shows the stadium clock. This is not an NBC graphic bug… this is a real time camera shot of the stadium clock synced with the game broadcast. There’s no lag on the clock from the video of what you’re seeing. They are the two absolutes that show the two together, in real time and not after the fact.

Any other argument allows the discussion of the alternate replay clock - which may or may not exist - and/or the parsing of fractions of seconds, which is never used in college football. Whether those two arguments are legitimate are certainly up for debate. What’s not up for debate, until clear, non-Bigfoot-style footage is unearthed proving otherwise, is that the stadium clock showed 0:00 while the ball was still in the air.

At the end of the day, this makes the B1G look really bad, at a time when it's positioning itself to be one of the sport's two superpowers. This gives other leagues the ammunition to say "see.. the mighty B1G can't even be trusted to keep the time of the game right." Come playoff time, other leagues will float the idea - whether based in fact or not - that the B1G rigged an outcome to protect its leverage over how many teams make the cut.

agree but thankfully the SEC is suing to kick out one of their own members. feels like a PR disaster draw 🤣

you can bet that Petitti is plenty upset about it . makes him & the league looks like amateurs ina big boy game

Only in so far as the poor officiating and time keeping of the game.

I can't blame Michigan, as much as I hate to say it. If we were in that position we'd go for the win and not just give up.

My tinfoil hat says it's not a coincidence they found an extra second... but that would basically also mean the end of the sport.

I don’t blame Michigan for anything either
I also don’t think anyone consciously wants to rig the outcome
but
it’s so obviously a subconscious wish as it seems to benefit them vs their opponent all the time . year after year they get the benefit of the doubt on every friggin call .
