This has a serious chance to be the worst Illini season of my entire lifetime. Been a fan since I was 6 years old circa 1980.

Injuries aside, Groce never impresses me with his coaching ability. I can't think of a time where in the 2nd half I felt Groce outmatched the adjustments of the other coach.

Horrible defense which you could see coming. Bad 3 pt defense team against a great three point shooting team. Horrible matchup. It really came down to the inability to contain Levert off the dribble which set-up everything else. Offensively Nunn brought it but he didn't get much help.

ouch

Another player from the bench lights the Illini up. This is brutal. Colangelo has to have someone on speed dial

Outscored 44-31 in the second half. You have to wonder what's going on at halftime in the locker room.

Long season ahead...already well into watching the games via DVR so I don't waste too much time on this team. It scares me to think about what the next stage of indifference is...checking the box score? If I'm feeling this way what the heck is the casual fan thinking?

We've had a tough stretch of injuries, but this is still really depressing :(

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid the clock just started ticking.
Not being competitive at home against a Michigan team that isn't all that just might be a harbinger of things to come.

Donnal had a TOTAL of 43 points in their first 13 games including scoreless games against powers Youngstown St and Delaware St.

What an indictment and embarrassment to the program to let him come into your house and put up 26-9.

Laughable on every level.

It might not wind up being our worst record, but it will certainly be our worst team over that period, and by a wide margin. Even if we were healthy, this was projected to be a mediocre team at best.

I rarely post, as you can see. But I'm fed up. I no longer care to plan ahead to watch the games. I'm sick of lousy defense. The lack of passion/performance in the second half of virtually EVERY SINGLE GAME is unacceptable, regardless of the number of injuries that have occurred. They do NOT look like a well-coached team, AT ALL.

I know this board is called Illinois Loyalty, and I have been loyal to Illinois since I started following Illini sports in 1975. I am loyal to our athletes, and will cheer for them regardless of the record.

However, I am no longer loyal to our basketball coach. I hope that changes, but I'm just not seeing it. Yes, our roster is depleted, but there are still five guys on the court, and they looked outcoached in almost every game.

I am sure I will raise the ire of those who still feel he is the man for the job, and I honestly, honestly, want to be wrong...I just don't see any real progress in our program in year number four.

Sadly, there's a pattern.

Didn't expect to win this one

I usually like to abstain from negativity, but holy hell, can we please play a competitive game of basketball from start to finish? I've slowly been losing faith in Groce, but this game all but solidified he's probably not our guy. Four years in with few improvements made. The Illini were competing on a national stage ten years ago...now we're lucky to make the NIT. We can't play the 2nd half for SH**!

Go Illini! :chief::shield:

We definitely had opened looks but they weren't falling. You know when MF shoots an air ball that we are cold.... I think we need to have some type of Havoc recipe to regain momentum....like a hard press or something to change the flow. We are playing our best when we are running and playing fast, using our hands on D.
