Michigan State 23, Illinois 15 Postgame

Great fight in this team at the end but a well deserved loss. 4 starters suspended for MSU, they did enough. We didn't take full advantage of that early interception. This loss can be a good thing for this team to refocus, clean up many mistakes, & get ready for Purdue.

Meh.

I feel like we’ve been getting a lot of 50/50 moments all season.

Tonight it felt like EVERY 50/50 play (PI calls/non-calls, fumbles, 4th down conversions, etc.) went their way.

It happens. We were due. Take care of 2/3 the rest of the season.

As much as this loss stings (and it does), Michigan State still has a chance to be a bowl team this season. They get Rutgers and Indiana at home the next two weeks before traveling to Penn State to end the season. This game was likely going to be what ended up deciding whether they went to one or not.

Got a lot of Fake Comeback™️ vibes from that one … blunder over and over again and then make plays down the stretch when it’s too late and lose a “close” one. Very disappointing.

I hope this serves as a similar experience for these guys as the loss at Indiana. The stats are there, we aren’t the most talented team out there … we’ve won games because we’re tough, smart, disciplined and we avoid mistakes. Today, we forgot our identity.

I’m still excited for my trip to Champaign next week, but MAN … kind of depressed my wife’s first experience in Memorial Stadium will be staring at a half-full upper deck.

There is still a lot for us to achieve this year. But this just sucks. Kind of validates some of the criticism we've seen about this team. Predictable. Unproven against better competition. Poor red zone offense. One dimensional.

Learn. Win out. Rose Bowl.

The new dream.

This is my fault for getting all excited for this game. All year, i just took these games in stride and didnt think about it too much. This past week, i was getting all jacked up for the this game and the future games and then they do this. Don't ever get too excited.

Offensive play calling was a little unimaginative. I thought devito should've kept it more on some of the RPOs but he didn't seem as explosive as his normal self - not to say he's a burner. I'm just glad to not hear the color Analyst anymore who was more wrong about almost every part of the game.

Super disappointed. MSU deserved to win and came to play. their defensive front really came thru. Self inflicted wounds finally caught up with us and we missed a golden opportunity to claim the west. We have to show some different things on offense because EVERYONE knows our tendencies.
