Forever grateful for Brad bringing us out of the gutter.

With our NIL budget recruiting isn't a good enough reason to make a guy a top 10 paid coach. And he has done absolutely nothing enough to warrant making his son a full on paid assistant coach.

What makes me very mad, and sad, is that national media will soon be running the clip of the banner fiasco, if not already.
Just a really bad look for the school and an unforgivable insult to TSJ. Unbelievable.

Just searched it, its out there of course. Stupid of me not to know how fast that would happen

We scored ZERO points in the last 8:30 i've LITERALLY never seen that happen to ANY other team and I've been watch CBB for decades. It's HISTORICALLY BAD and the team must be completely demoralized right now.

We have. Shorta. And very recently. This game was almost like this.

Find it weird TSJs last game with us he was in a game that went on a 30-0. Today. We don’t score the last 1/4 of the game and got out scored by 30 from the point we look a 16 point lead.

Interesting connection.

Hummer is far from perfect but the hate he gets is insane on here. Tomi had an all time stinker tonight, Hummer actually did some good things in the midrange and defended pretty well. Way more problems than just him right now.
Honestly i think most formed that hatred due to some insiders saying he was a problem last year and now its snow balled to just blaming hammer.

Missread my fault

This is the insidious thing with nepotism. You already can't publicly drag an assistant through the mud if you want other assistants to ever work for you, but if it's your kid, you have a really hard time demoting him or firing him, to boot, because you don't want to damage his career prospects.

He never should have hired Tyler for anything more than a graduate assistant. He should have used his connections to get Tyler a job in a different program.
I don’t get why Brad was allowed to promote Tyler into that position. I guess that’s Whitman’s call. Illinois is a public institution, not an Underwood family business. I think it’s a bad look and may not be good for team culture. If the team is winning, people will probably look away, but Illinois basketball is not meeting ecxpectations so this will get blame by default.

Just when I thought the embarrassment couldn't get any worse, I don't think Brad would have even mentioned TSJ in the postgame presser unless the lady at the end asked a question about it. I think he rambled on for a minute and a half because he realized he hadn't.

The head coach was not interested in this game tonight. He hardly got up out of his seat, instead he was like
- "hey Tyler, think mom will have dinner ready when we get home?" -"You really need to clean your room tomorrow."
And
"I'm about sick of your offense, go straight to your room when we get home. I don't wanna see you until you've drawn up more plays in your sketch book!"

Get rid of Brad get a real Coach in there

No need to gaslight. This is a poorly constructed and coached team. Most fans can clearly see it. The staff had them ready to play tonight. That was certainly a welcome change from recent games. But when adjustment time came…..game over. Story of the season.

Old habits die hard. That’s what I am seeing with the players. They’ve been coached up to be this 3 point first heavy team and now it’s looking like they are trying to unlearn it in the most important month leading to tournament time. Off-season staff changes is going to be vital.
It’s like Brad could have called a timeout to talk about this or something..

Brad’s postgame remarks about he doesn’t know why we stopped taking it to the basket and settled for threes is disturbing- he does know he’s the coach right? He can call a play and have them not settle for threes, Ben is hurting the team much the same way Mayer did - he simply won’t stop shooting and it’s killing us, he did some other good things this game but the last 6 minutes, he killed us

Tomi was not right the whole game and clearly reinjured his ankle when Cooper rolled on it- Brad may need to just sit him a game to give it rest

A couple more observations before I try to fall asleep. I was telling my wife on the way home that the upside down banner had to be a prank. I mean seriously when you’re putting that on the rod there’s no way you could make that mistake. Also Ben plays hard there’s no doubt about that he is just not a 30-33 min a night guy. That falls solely on the head coach. When we go big with Tomi Morez and Ben we don’t have the footspeed to stay with most teams. More DGL, more Trey and man do I miss Ty. It seems we play better at times on the road maybe we can steal one at Kohl next week.

Is Brad checked out? Like from coaching NCAA basketball? The fire isn’t there. Adjustments are one thing, stubbornness is another, but he doesn’t seem like the same Brad we hired. At all. Wouldn’t be the first coach to tap out with the changing tides. Idk.

The good news. We set an Illini record for missing the last 19 shots at the end of the game and not scoring for over 8 1/2 minutes at the finish. I couldn't be prouder.
