Well, I guess a positive going forward is that we’re gonna scare the !!!! out of a 1 or 2 that we get paired against as a 7/8 seed.

Honestly let’s just get to the B10 Tournament. Dont care that much about the rest of the regular season other than gaining some momentum. Any “feel good” I get from one game quickly goes away in the next.

What makes me very mad, and sad, is that national media will soon be running the clip of the banner fiasco, if not already.
Just a really bad look for the school and an unforgivable insult to TSJ. Unbelievable.

Just searched it, its out there of course. Stupid of me not to know how fast that would happen
I think for all the school did for TSJ during his trying times last season, I think all will be forgiven on his end. This is not the end all be all. There's more important things in life to hold grudges over than this

After watching us this evening, if I were a 1 or 2 seed, I wouldn't lose a second's sleep over playing us.

A couple more observations before I try to fall asleep. I was telling my wife on the way home that the upside down banner had to be a prank. I mean seriously when you’re putting that on the rod there’s no way you could make that mistake. Also Ben plays hard there’s no doubt about that he is just not a 30-33 min a night guy. That falls solely on the head coach. When we go big with Tomi Morez and Ben we don’t have the footspeed to stay with most teams. More DGL, more Trey and man do I miss Ty. It seems we play better at times on the road maybe we can steal one at Kohl next week.
Humrichous is the golden child. He is the eye of Underwood's eye. He can do no wrong. I think all of Illini nation is just about sick of it by now. It's not even on Humrichous. I feel bad for the dude b/c he has to know that he is getting killed for it by the fanbase. Underwood needs to stop coddling this young man and play the players who deserve to play. He's basically telling DGL it's okay for you to transfer when DGL is the one dude outside of Morez who will give you maximum effiort

Here’s the big ones… Then there’s your handful of other ones… The Maryland’s, USC, the hangover Penn State game, etc… Very, very, very disappointing that we don’t protect home court the way we once did.
This may go to explain the poor crowd engagement that we've seen this year.

Despite overall success we continue to lay turds at home and the fans have come to expect the bottom falling out, even we the team is up 16 points...

playing like this with our remaining schedule, is 18-14 and a play-in game out of the question? after the oregon game I was thinking f4
At 18-14, the Illini are likely in the 8/9 game at worst. It would still be a large disappointment with the way the season has played out and our collective expectations. However, the schedule was constructed very well this year to have around 20 or so quad 1 games. The Illini have done enough to be safely in the field (assuming the team gets at least one more win). It just stinks because the team has the talent to be at least a 4 seed, but they have not had a consistent winning formula of a game plan.

It was nice to see Josh take responsibility for the half time failure and embarrassing to see KJ take responsibility for the coaches failure.

DGL needs to play more. I don't understand how he works his way into stating a game, gets ill and is now down to 3 minutes this game?

Not sure what Tre did but seems we really need him to play some minutes for the team to be successful going forward.

I know there are many Ben supporters here, I'm not one of them seems his minutes should go down and others go up but evidently that's not going to happen.

Please stop shooting so many 3's, it's obvious the team is so much better when we don't jack up 30+ of them.

I have tickets for my first college game ever Tuesday night, taking my Grandsons 6 and 8 (both Badger fans) to their first college game also. I wish I could say I'm excited to go but after today I'm feeling let down by the team and coaching staff's performance. I hope somehow I get to see a W for I-L-L on my first attendance so I don't get heckled by two kids for the rest of the season!

Absolutely the worst, took the energy right out of the crowd. TSJ couldn’t even get a family photo with the banner. WTH

I tell ya, I spent the better part of half an hour writing a rant on this. I'm probably better off that the site just ate it, but I'm still going to put a short version out here.

I am dumbstruck that they raised the jersey like that. I feel personally lessened that the school that taught me how to think could make such a poor decision. To see us do something so unserious knocks me down a peg.

I sympathize that there was shock and everyone is pressed for time. But, you get tools out there in less than a minute to roll it back up or remove it. Try some cute photos with the banner held up or skip them for the moment, I don't care. We've got to risk fumbling the fix to avoid raising an insult to the ceiling. Have someone in charge, ffs.

This was a lot more than a jersey hanging. It was even more than making a special exception for a special player. This was THE APOLOGY being given to one of our own in place of what college basketball owed him.

And you got it wrong TWICE. ... we got it wrong twice.

It's been mere days since this was done without any hint of difficulty. While I can't imagine that anyone close to the program would want to see this done on purpose as some kind of statement, the suspicion is now out there in the world. To have insufficient safeguards against whatever the heck happened here tonight is inexcusable. Shame on us.

Bottom line is BU is an average Coach at best. He is at a school with very good NIL and has surrounded himself with good recruiters. When those guys are able to land top talent he can win. When the talent is just above average and he has to coach ‘‘em up …… he struggles. He talks a good game.

He's put a couple guys into the NBA and that's about to be a 3rd and maybe a 4th player now. Say what you will but he was responsible for elevating TSJ to another level compared to his Texas Tech 3 and D days. But, give coach Fletch credit for keeping him healthy because he was oft injured at Texas Tech.

With putting guys into the NBA, he's going to keep getting top talent. But, they need to retain talent too for some level of cohesion. Hopefully, Morez, Tomi, Boswell, Jake Davis stick around. I am concerned that DGL will leave after this latest fiasco. His mins are too up and down for someone of his caliber

Given the remaining schedule, can this team make the tournament without a big ten tournament run?

This is the insidious thing with nepotism. You already can't publicly drag an assistant through the mud if you want other assistants to ever work for you, but if it's your kid, you have a really hard time demoting him or firing him, to boot, because you don't want to damage his career prospects.

He never should have hired Tyler for anything more than a graduate assistant. He should have used his connections to get Tyler a job in a different program.
Great post. Sad thing is given the generational level of pay Brad collects, his kids and grandkids will never want for anything. With Brad's connections and wealth there are many more subtle ways to get Tyler the experience he needs to be successful in coaching without the blatant nepotism.

It was hard watching what unfolded on the Lou Henson Court tonight. I turned the TV off so I did not have to watch Coach Izzo shrug his shoulders as he shook Brad's hand as if to say," I don't know how we managed to win." He has probably done this after every one of his record breaking wins. Tough to have to watch Cronin and Izzo on back to back games. Having just read all the post game laments, I am going to make a suggestion. There is another Illinois basketball team playing in the B1G Ten. They are 20-5 so far this season. Coach Green and her staff have resurrected the women's program in an amazing fashion. The team is accomplishing wins while having three key players out with season ending injuries. They have two remaining home games, including tomorrow afternoon at 4PM against Nebraska. If you have not watched them play, I think you would enjoy taking in a game. They pride themselves on defense. They run actions and make adjustments. If the outside shots are not falling they drive hard to the rim and get to the free-throw line. They have seven in their rotations and they play hard. They have the all time Illini women's rebounder in Kendall Bostic who is also one of the best in the country. They share the ball and genuinely enjoy playing together. They are the team that should have a loud and packed State Farm Center. A full Krush section. Could we be like Iowa whose women's team plays in front of more fans than the men. Like the Indiana team that draws up to 10,000 fans per game. The players that are going to graduate have stayed with this program and have played together for three years. Imagine that. Come say thank you to Genesis, Makira, Brynn, Adalia and Kendall. Cheer them on against a Husker team that just beat Maryland on the road by twenty. If you can't make this game then circle Sunday, March 2nd against Michigan. The time of that game has been moved I think to 12:30. This team is all about what we feel is missing on the men's team. They deserve our support. Let's make it happen Illini!
