Given the remaining schedule, can this team make the tournament without a big ten tournament run?
Unless the Illini lose out, they will be relatively safely in the field with about an 8 or 9 seed at worst. Every remaining game will be Quad 1, with exception of Iowa (Quad 2). If Illinois beats Iowa, there are no possible bad losses left. I know the team feels like it has underperformed, but they have put together a very strong resume compared to teams that will be on the wrong side of the bubble. The Illini have 11 Quad 1/Quad 2 wins and no bad losses.

Boswell 0 points, 0-2 FG - You just need more. It seems like his offensive struggles have gotten into him a bit... deferring a lot... you just need more and expected more.

With the point of this team being a freshman led team... we have veterans, it's just they haven't lived up to the hype. Your freshman are your best players.

Kylan was deferring way too much in this game. He never got to the foul line as well. Second half we get in the bonus early and one of our best free throw shooter never got to the line at all. That’s unacceptable and Kylan played 29 minutes in this game. Felt like he was hesitant a lot.

Did you even watch the game??? Out of the last 19 misses 3 of those were from Hummer. SMH.

Coaching is pathetic, let’s throw out analytics and just play ball. Obviously our coaches are overthinking things or just aren’t very good. I’m leaning towards the latter.
-We have good players, but not a system that pulls them together. Most threes were rushed, just not very much in the flow after the hot start. Let’s give Izzo some credit as he is showing you can win by playing old time basketball and a few threes sprinkled in.
-Let’s quit blaming Tyler and Zach. According to an article I found, they earn $121,000 and $199,000. So these guys that earn a combined $320,000 are responsible for the successful operation of our multi-million dollar franchise while the $4,700,000 man sits and watches. Sorry, Brad and Josh both own this it this is the case. If these two young guys are the best we have that says a lot about our management.

While on offense, we constantly had 6-8 players (including the defense) running outside the 3 point line. There was no room for Kylan to get a look. No offensive sets, just dribble drive too much.

Pitiful post game from BU.
I'm not a media member but I'm kind of getting tired of him taking shots at them in the post game pressers. Just because his team is underperforming and he's not doing a great job doesn't give him the right to rip on them, who, most of the time, ask legitimate questions and are just doing their job. Tonight he basically said "I get to impact people's lives and all you guys do is talk about wins and losses and write about crap". what a condescending comment.

Brad’s postgame remarks about he doesn’t know why we stopped taking it to the basket and settled for threes is disturbing- he does know he’s the coach right? He can call a play and have them not settle for threes, Ben is hurting the team much the same way Mayer did - he simply won’t stop shooting and it’s killing us, he did some other good things this game but the last 6 minutes, he killed us

Tomi was not right the whole game and clearly reinjured his ankle when Cooper rolled on it- Brad may need to just sit him a game to give it rest
Reporter: "Ben was 0 for 6 from three and Tomi 0 for 4, does it ever get to the point in the huddle where you say hey guys just take some easy ones to try to get going?"

BU: "how many of Ben's went in and out? if Ben doesn't shoot those, i won't play him....tonight they just didn't go in. he might make the next 10"

Brad, let me make this crystal clear. no one on this team, not even your boy Ben, is going to ever make 10 threes in a row over the course of a season. Stop with this whole narrative that if you keep shooting them, some nights you'll get lucky and be hot because much more often than not this season, this team has not made them and are worst in the league at making them. This is not an "elite" shooting team no matter what you say-the numbers don't lie. Continuing to do something and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

Back to back HOME game this team built up 16 points lead and back to back failed to execute the “killshot.” UCLA we survived but nevertheless that’s back to back letting 16 points lead disappear in mere minutes. Can’t call yourself a Final Four contender team when you lack that killer instinct to put team away there and now.

Almost just hoping this team can get a miraculous sweet 16 run in at this point and UNC or Kansas decides they want Brad along with Indiana getting May so maybe we get Beard.

It's going to kill me if I'm watching Beard kill Brad while at Indiana next year while we have another team with basically no continuity.

Yeah, I'm right there with ya. We went what amounts to a 4th quarter without scoring. Missing 19 shots in a row? Seriously? I didn't even know that was possible. And playing in front of a sold out, supercharged crowd to boot. A more deflating game would be hard to find.

Unless it comes out that Tre White REALLY did something bad to deserve this walk-on level benching treatment he’s getting, this is an all-time ego blunder by Brad letting our 2nd best defender ride the pine while opposing 4s come into our building and destroy us. Tre White was our best player in multiple high major games this year (Wisconsin, Oregon, etc.) and now he may as well be off the team. Meanwhile, KJ, Ben, and Will are allowed to shoot as many side-step contested threes as they want, and no one’s held accountable on defense. Pathetic loss.
Also two of the better players on the roster at scoring at the basket in DGL and White played a combined total of 3 minutes while Humrichous and Davis played 45 minutes.

Also, Kylan played 29 minutes and is completely useless on the offensive side.

DGL is straight up a better basketball player than Boswell and that is going to be very evident next year when he transfers to a new team.

Jake Davis has a real future with this team. His confidence just seems growing with each game. He sure does love shooting those corner treys.

Not to defend Brad,

Duquesne wasn't very good and matchup terribly with the size and athleticism of the Illini but that's a fairly typical path for a lot of runs(you get lucky in round 2).

But I think they would have absolutely dismantled BYU last year with how soft that team was. Plus, Iowa State very nearly got a 1 seed. UConn was about the worst matchup possible.

Still, thanks to Brad for reviving the program but Chris Beard would next step and you'd have a team that is seriously competing for a championship every year.

Get off the ledge. His top 4 producers are freshmen. He put an entirely new roster together on the fly made up of primarily young guys. If there's an underachievement, it's the current assistant coaches turnover because players and continuity are heading out the door with them.
Not on a ledge, but last year may have been a mirage and ultimately he is the head coach and he’s the one in charge of handling his staff as well as his players. High dollars = high pressure. He doesn’t need you to try to defend his actions or lack thereof at times. Prior to last year he underachieved with the talent he had on roster. Time will tell as always.

Billed as a heavy fight. In the First 10 minutes the Illini punched MSU in the mouth never really staggered them but just woke them up. The next 30 minutes MSU kept jabbing us, then kept throwing left right punches then finally threw a hay maker that floored us and we never got up again.
A very poor performance the last 30 minutes except for Rez. Ivisic, Boswell complete no-shows, Kj scored 13 in first half had just 4 points all on free throws in the 2nd half. For the first time this year the Illini were manhandled on the boards.
Going forward it will take a miracle to win the next 2 on the road. I wonder now if this team even makes the NCAA tourney!

Another career high for the opposing team’s player.

We need new assistants coaches for offensive and defense.

And we keep chucking 3s and Morez is on the bench and we can’t get a rebound.

This is bad bad bad coaching. Like horrible coaching. Most of this season.

Brad waits until MSU goes on a 10-0 run to take Ben out. We deserve to lose this game because of the coaching.

Ben with the most minutes out of the entire team. 30 minutes.

Brad never calls timeouts when most good coaches would. Maybe call timeout and demand stop jacking up threes. Just like Matt Mayer team. I never have thought this to be an elite team or Brad to be a top ten bench coach.

I have never thought Brad to be a top ten bench coach or this to be an elite team. He never calls timeouts when other good coaches would. His analytics of jacking up as many threes as possible is ridiculous. Mat Mayer all over again.

Just watched Brads postgame presser, What the hell. Bemoaned jacking 3's the last 10 minutes and not working in the paint and he didnt no why they got away from it. Wtf. You're the efffing coach. Call time out and address it during the game. Doesnt do much good postgame. Then he ignored a question about Tre not playing to only later say he needs to get him more time as he can really get downhill to the basket. He made no sense accept for his admiration for Izzo and their 2am phone conversations as if thats supposed to be impressive. Serenity now !!

Seems like we ran out of gas on offense and defense and rebounding cratered. 7 man rotation doesn’t cut it. Is Tre White in the dog house or does he have the flu for 2 weeks?
