Those are literally the suits Brad wants them to take. He’s said repeatedly he wants to give them long 2s.

We also seem to pick one guy each game who we dare to beat us. We play the odds and let a 25% 3 pt shooter have those shots. That’s one reason our rebounding is so good.
Suits look nice; but he needs to realize that shoplifting is no laughing matter…and a bad idea. (Could be tried as a felony OR misdemeanor…)

Times have changed with NIL and the transfer portal.

You can bring in veteran talent every year. In the past great programs could have down years because they graduated a bunch of guys or guys left early, but now you can reload and replace everyone/plug the holes that graduations create.

Roster construction used to be a lot more difficult where programs would naturally rise and fall depending on how recruiting classes looked as upperclassmen.

The expectation should be to compete every year now with how much money is put into this program.

Also, I think the backlash to Brad this year is more of a response to him getting consistently out coached in games and his schemes getting exploited by less talented teams.

For example, I think Hoiberg is a great coach and one of the better offensive minds in college basketball but losing that badly with the talent disparity between those teams is inexcusable. Coming out flat and losing to Northwestern and USC at home is inexcusable. Blowing a 16 pts lead at home to MSU is inexcusable.

The Maryland and Rutgers game were also ugly but I'll give them that Maryland was matchup issues but why does Reese kill us every year? And how did we lose to a team with no bigs in Rutgers?

Brad is just stacking up ugly losses this year.

The red text is called nepotism and there is good reason why giving a leg up to your family member is almost always the wrong decision if you want your employer or business to perform at the highest level. Merit-based hiring and promotion is fundamental to creating a culture geared toward success.

I worry that the bolded sentence above is the direct result of the culture of this team and program right now. Stubbornness, Nepotism and Arrogance are culture killers.

1. Not playing Tre and limiting DGL's minutes is coaching malpractice. Plain and Simple. Those 2 and MJ will be in the portal. Who could blame them?
2. The upside-down hanging of Shannon's jersey was on purpose. No way you hang that jersey upside-down by accident. A 5th-grader couldn't make that mistake. Someone wanted to make a statement . . . and they did.
3. KJ is not a top 5 pick. Top 50 maybe.
4. Tomi is just soft. Maybe he's sick, idk. But he has no physical presence offensively or defensively.
4. Brad cannot adjust in-game and is depending on his nepotic son to do it. Results are as to be expected.
5. I'm going to miss Morez Johnson more than any of them. He's going to be a star somewhere.
6. Brad's not leaving. No one is going to pay him more than the $4.6 million he makes. Even Matt Painter (a much better X's and O's coach) makes less than Brad.
7. Most here won't like my criticism of Brad. I remember Groce and Weber had their defenders, too. So, I don't care. Eventually, people will see the light. Illinois can do better.

How do you not play Tre White unless he's hurt? Shameful.

(Yes, I'll admit it. I'm upset. This season HAD so much promise.)
I appreciate your point of view, but think you are mistaken on so many fronts. Kj is a lottery pick. The coach knows more than you do regarding dgl and tre...are you in practice?the upside down jersey was not done on purpose. Etc.

Or he is letting them play because he can’t or won’t embarrass his own coach, his son, calling anybody out.

Hey, I'm probably wrong on everything I said to one degree or another. I admit that. :)

I never said KJ isn't a lottery pick, but all the talk of "TOP 5"...no, he's nowhere near top 5. That's all I meant.
When DGL and TRE enter the portal, remember point #1.
Tomi is soft. Again, maybe he's hurt. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Since MJ broke his wrist, I'm not sure how much that affects his desire to enter the portal, if at all. I do think it improves the chances he stays.

After hearing that he broke his wrist, I am a lot less concerned about wins and losses than I was yesterday. It's just a game.

Tom Izzo is a quality individual and a great coach. Brad appears to think he has a lifetime job in Champaign. Lets hope not.
I don't disagree with your assessment of Izzo at all. I think he is a quality person. He cares about his players and makes sure they get the best education they can while playing for him. But he's STILL whiny. Even Sparty fans (some of them) admit that. I wouldn't say the refs fear him, but they give him way more leeway than they give almost any other coach.

I don't want TU here if he doesn't go elsewhere for a period of time, maybe a few other places, and learns some things from others. Especially different systems/philosophies. I just don't think staying under BU makes for a well rounded coach and typecasts him as a clone to his father. Who's still got some learning to do on his own as a HC.

Whatever you say Spartan Spirit…
only 4 posts and a suspicious green avatar…do I smell a 🧌 troll?

If not, carry on…and I offer up my sincerest Orange and Blue apologies.

Izzo is a complicated person. He is one of the finest leaders in the history of college basketball. His life story is humbling. He is, as well, very far from perfect. (Even so, I understand this: let he who is without sin cast the first stone ...)

I appreciate your point of view, but think you are mistaken ... Kj is a lottery pick.
Nicely stated, very respectful. Kinda what one might hope for a person from the Land of Lincoln (President's Day!) and an Illini.

We got issues, but we will reach the promised land one of these days. (Grammar, I know, lol).

I agree: KJ is (the equivalent of) a lottery pick, despite his eye-rolling screw-ups. He is one of the finest basketball players ever to don the uniform of the University of Illinois. We are lucky to have him. I would feel luckier still to have the unjustified-chance to knock some more sense into his head: turnovers, shot selection, leadership. He's a great kid in search of great coaching. Hopefully our staff bring it.

This is a tough call for any father. Where is my greater loyalty? To my Flesh-and-Blood (and my future heir and bearer of our family legacy)... or to my employer and their vigorous fan base?

The answer is easy for fans. ‘You work for us. Our Beloved is paying you well. You owe us something for our support.’

Well, let’s turn that around from the other point of view. 'You are my Dad. You work for Our Family. You owe us first and foremost before you owe anything to anybody else. Would I get this chance anywhere else right now?’

Perhaps what Coach is doing is allowing his son to ‘shoot his way out of this’. He is priming his lad for a future in the coaching profession and he wants to strike while the iron is hot and give his boy a chance to succeed here and now at that level of a proud major program. Is that the right call? That is something Coach has to decide in the quiet of his own thoughts.

There is something holding this program back. The Illini have hit a glass ceiling a couple times over the years to finally roost permanently in the Top Ten and maybe Final Four. As fans this is frustrating because we want to see The Beloved as our/a Blueblood even though we know in our hearts that other programs are wearing that label easier these days.

The Illini are young. But youth alone is not the problem. The amount of talent on this team is evident but do we see consistent progress as the season goes on? Still too many cold stretches from Three. Still too many turnovers and mental errors. The D has been fairly good most of the way. But the Illini struggle when the Other Guys challenge them at key moments of a game and the Illini have trouble finding a floor leader to settle things down and take charge. Who is the Alpha on the floor?

The puzzle pieces of this year’s team have not fully come together. And with the fast shifting sands of College Ball these days you get one short season to make all the pieces fit in that short time.

As we saw during the Michigan State game, the Illini were feeling way-great about themselves when they had the big lead. And then when challenged... the Illini just as quickly began to fold. You cannot show fear or weakness on the floor as the other side can sense this right away and know they are beginning to get the upper hand. State sensed this and completely dominated since the middle of the first half.

This could be such a great season and finish if the Illini can figure things out maybe more off the court than on it. They have floor talent. They need the wisdom to know how to best use it.
Brad could have easily found a job for Tyler with one of his coaching friends elsewhere. I believe it would have been far better for his career to see different things and experience different situations. Maybe staying close to home is preferable for their family, however, I don’t think it’s in his best interests long term.

Groce or Weber are not the baseline but rather a low point in Illinois long storied history. Comparing your sample to your lowest sample point is not a logic way of measuring. That was also during the dark ages of dark NIL which every decent team played but Guenther and those two aforementioned coaches refused to play. The modern NIL and Whitman would never have us stoop to those levels again.

As you know a teams total minutes per game is 200.
Michigan State starters played a total of 108 minutes. The remaining 92 minutes were spread among 6 bench players. Illinois starters played a total of 153 minutes. The remaining 47 minute were spread among 3 bench players.
In the last 10 minutes of the game MSU players looked fresh and energized. UI players looked gassed and weak. Jeez, how could that happen? Illinois players are out of shape?

Not really surprising that Dain would have success in the AAC. He was always a monster when playing against guys his height or shorter.

His issue was that he is/was an old school back to basket big that struggles with size/length(7 footers) and isn't big or athletic enough to provide rim protection despite his long arms.

He would be an all American if he was 6'11/7'0 but he's 6'8 and matchup dependent as a result.

Literally haven't seen a mock draft the past 2 months that has him outside the top 5 .... but sure (y).
