Weird hill to die on in the worst officiated game I've seen in quite a few years
On the contrary, I think when a fanbase loudly complains about actually defensible calls it distracts from the legitimately terrible ones, like KJ's foul #2 & 4, and the TO and subsequent tech, and all those complaints get lumped together as the typical whining by the fanbase that lost the game.

And look if I'm wrong that's ok. What I saw was KJ extending his foot into the path of a player that was going for a ball that KJ didn't have a shot at, and causing that player to trip. If the rule is you can basically extend your foot to trip a guy as long as you get your foot to the ground before the contact then I've learned something new today and will keep that in mind.

Can someone explain to me how in hell is this a good look for a competitive College basketball game.

Is there any instance in any sport where a coach or manager puts his hands on an official. Should have been an automatic Technical Foul. This constant conversation between official and coach during a contest has grown to such levels as to raise questions as to what exactly is going on? This type of constant whining does not occur at the high school or professional level. It should have never been tolerated at the college level. It is way past time to hand out technicals and ejections. The integrity of the sport is beginning to get tarnished by allowing such brazen behavior.

There's no "planted" element to defensive position. There's no way a still would be able to tell whether KJ had position.
I would think that “planted” is only is only relevant to a defensive blocking or charge call. In this case, KJ had fair positioning as the other player was moving towards the basket. There is clearly no intentionality on KJ’s part to trip the clumsy Spartan, who just stumbled and bumbled over his right foot. The ref’s did a poor job, and inserted themselves in the outcome of the game. Referee insertion degrades the quality of the product: NCAA basketball

I don't have any issue with this as much because as a BIG TEN coach you are going to see and interact with the officials a lot......BUT where I do have an issue is when you see this level of buddy buddy and Izzo able to scream BS about a call in an officials face and get nothing is concerning. especially when you pair it up with an Tech on the Illini bench.

If you call it both ways no one has an issue but it blatantly wasn't

Honestly, I’m over this game. We moved up 2 spots in the rankings. Every objective observer knows the refs changed the outcome. Now we start our winning streak. Next up.

Yup. Next step with MSU is to kick their arses by 30 in February and repeat the feat in the B1G tournament on the way to cutting down the nets.

We’re on the outside looking in for the regular season B1G championship, with a slim chance to make up the lost ground, but with much better March prospects than Mizzo’s green crew without their herd of pet zebras

The Big Ten Conference has allowed this poor behavior for far too long. It is time to put limits upon the interaction between coach and official. The appearance of impropriety is beginning to reach stench-like proportion. Perception, pretty soon, becomes reality in the public's imagination. After all, turning College Athletics into an MMA contest is not what sports fans want.

How could anybody not be happy with Brad Underwood as the coach of the ILLINI?!! Everything about him, his approach, his transparency, his style, and obviously the performance creates quite a package for the fans.
While I agree in general with everything you've stated, a timeout with the ball and the game on the line was appropriate.

Can we dispense with this argument about what could or could not have been done by our players and coaches about the outcome to this game. This, ladies and gentlemen, was a hose job. The outcome was decided before the tip. Tommy's house, Tommy's rules; end of discussion. As long as the Big Ten puts up with this BS it is all we, as fans, can hope for. Kasparas is an anomaly that just can't be tolerated by the powers that be. Four minutes into that game it became apparent that he was going to slice up MSU like cheap salami. They had to get him out to have a chance, and they did. Calling a technical foul on us instead of on MSU for calling a timeout from the bench before 2 minutes is all one needs to know.

I feel differently about this. Was the deck stacked deeply and completely unfairly against us? Absolutely. But we had the chance to win the game had we sunk our foul shots at a decent clip and executed better on that last offensive play of the game. From my perspective, our team needs to look at this as an opportunity to learn and grow rather than a complete hose job that we had no chance of overcoming.

Who is smarter?

Underwood used NIL to put a lot of talent on the team.

Izzo used NIL to put talent on the team and included the referees.

Brad will learn from this.
Brad already knows the ref game as well as Izzo does, just ask Tennessee.

Not even kidding.....is there Vegas funny business going on? I'm going back watching a series of atrocious calls. Does there need to be an investigation, or is this crew truly meant for high school games? It is either sinister, or just gross offciaiting incompetence.
How 'bout "grossly sinister"...?

I had to look. This is spooky.

The 2005 National Championship box score: James Augustine - 9 minutes played. 5 fouls. 3 shots. 0 points. 2 rebounds.
MSU box score - Kasparas Jakucionis - 9 minutes played. 5 fouls. 3 shots. 3 points. 3 assists.

Still p*ssed. About both.

Multiple truths:
-KJ got hosed one at least two of the 5 calls
-Reffing is hard, mistakes happen
-KJ should’ve been more careful at times given his foul situation

At the end of the day, we had more than a shot at winning this game without our best player and (arguably) our second best player dealing with an illness. Riley played extremely well. Morez was a positive as well and I thought Ben played adequate. Boswell cannot be a 15+ min PG, he needs to focus on being less adventurous. White needs to get his mojo back. Maybe we aren’t a good 3 pt shooting team.

This team is the most talented in the BIG and that will not change for the remainder of this year barring injuries.
Illinois is not a good 3 point shooting team with the 3s they choose to take (contested, long 3s and individuals taking shots)
Riley had a great 6 minute stretch but other than that he was very average
Tre didn’t have a good game - I figured he was sick (and not ivisic)
Ivisic at the 3 point line allowed and created Illinois’ best stretch and loved offense being run
Morez played hard and happy to see him succeed.
Being young it is hard to see this team winning 7+ in a row.
Hate that the bench got a T - so avoidable
A coach of a young team needs to learn to use timeouts to help the team like end of a half possession and other team making a run.
Only way losses help is if there are changes

Not how I saw it. Appears to me to be more of a both putting their foot down in the same spot situation with KJ getting his down first. Normally this is a no call play on with most officials but not when Izzos team is involved.
This is how I saw it as well. It's why I asked if he really stepped on his foot. After thinking it over, I suppose you could argue it was a bang-bang play and without the benefit of replay was, at the very least, an understandable call. That fourth foul however....

Has anyone seen any replay of the technical foul on the Illinois bench?

had enough of KJ#3 stills. #4 was egregious and easy foul call on Cooper, the ref has perfect view. KJ jumps straight up for reb on circle; Cooper starts well inside circle jumping into KJ elbowing KJ in face; momentum causes Cooper to lose balance in conjunction with pushing off KJ to reach for ball

I said it at the time, this is one of the worst foul calls I have ever seen.
