As a fan of the game and admitting that virtually everything went to Sparty, there were a ton of things the Illini could and should have done to put them up in this game at the end. It was not a game where anyone on this team can be proud of their play....but can be easily changed to an Illini advantage. It was indeed a shame that the officials took KJ out of the game on some highly doubtful calls. But a couple or three of those were fouls that could have been avoided.

But I can't wait until the rematch in Champaign if that game is officiated fairly. Sparty is a good team with some very smart, athletic players and a crafty coach. They play hard and aggressive for 60 minutes. Due to Illini youth and inexperience, that cannot be claimed of all the beloved. But as much as any game they will play this year, there is tremendous growth to be had from lessons learned today.

This game is over. I look forward to the next and a better Illini team that is more than ever determined to learn from costly mistakes.

Other than that Mrs Lincoln it was a great play.

You can't, but the ball needs to be completely behind the backboard when going over it. No part can be over the side of the backboard, seemed like it might have been pretty close.
I don’t get that. If you are in bounds and you shoot the ball over the back board and the ball doesn’t touch the board, that is a legitimate shot, I don’t care what the current rule is

Hit our free throws? Win.
Underwood doesn't get teed? Win.
Less home cooking from the stripes? Win.

I'm bummed but excited for the rest of the season.
Make a few more crucial layups? Win.

A great deal of confusion and misinformation regarding
1. The technical foul
2. Shot over the back board.
It would be helpful if the announcers did a better job of describing what happened, Too often a violation or foul occurs and the announcers don't even say who the foul was on or what violation occurred. They babble on about how great some coach is or what the future schedule is, etc. as they ignore the game action. In both cases with significant impact on the outcome of the game, a more detailed explanation would have helped. (They are also reluctant to comment on anything that might show the ref screwed up or show a replay that contradicts a call) MSU did not have control of the ball so the bench cannot call a timeout. The tech should have been on the MSU bench.

As soon as the announcers said about the refs: 'some of the best in the business' at the beginning of the game, we were screwed. They doubled down at the beginning of the second half after being eyewitnesses to a refereeing dumpster fire. Could announcers just once say: 'the refs had a horrible first half, let's see if they can bounce back.'

Just finished the game that I had recorded, haven't read or seen anything postgame, and this might already have been mentioned/refuted by now:
If my BU lip reading skills are any good, I'm pretty sure after the technical, he talked to a ref, and then told OA "they said it was on you."

I don't understand that last shot by Boswell. He knows it's illegal to shoot over the backboard, right? Why put up a shot that has no chance of counting even if it miraculously goes in?
I think you play the ball as it lands, with fractions of a second on the clock, and hope for the best

I would consider it more officiating incompetence vs betting prowess. None of their bets would’ve paid off (first half or otherwise) based on removing KJ and Will from the lineup, unless they bet the full under (160.5) as it came in at 158. But that’s cutting it pretty close, and it would make no sense to send a great free throw shooting team repeatedly to to the line if that’s your goal.

That said, if they’re this incompetent at officiating, maybe they’re equally incompetent at betting. 🤷🏼‍♂️
moneyline MSU would have paid nicely?

That's the general consensus so far. Brad did say it was "on the bench," but wouldn't elaborate.

Not sure what OA said or did to warrant that, but unless it's egregious, that's a whistle that shoud be swallowed, especially at that point of the game.

People are saying Brad lost his cool and couldn't take a T there, that is why it matters. I was begging him to get a T about the time KJ got his 3rd foul. IF Brad did anything wrong it was not working the refs harder than he did. He got out ref-influenced in this game (if that is even a thing). With KJ this a 20 point win. A number of our possessions of standing around and throwing up contested 3's wouldn't have happened.

My guess is he called the refs out on the ability for the bench to be able to call a time out when there is a loose ball, which the player did not have control at the time. Maybe his wording was slightly more aggressive

I think he actually got mad because the refs gave izzo the TO from the bench, which technically isn't allowed anymore unless it's under two minutes to go.

And after the first free throw he said something ending in joke (this is a joke, what a joke, something similar)

I was very annoyed with the CBS broadcast team - along with not offering explanations to key points in the game as mentioned previously, every reference to the score was from the MSU perspective...Michigan State down 7, Michigan State has never lead, that's Michigan State's first lead of the game, etc. etc.

I also get very agitated by words ending in "th" being pronounced as an "f" --- Showing some strengff on that rebound...
