I believe no one has mentioned the 3rd foul. The MS player stepped on KJ's foot. How is that a foul?
We got hosed.
I thought the same initially, but looking at it a bit more KJ tripped him. I'm sure it was accidental but looking at this frame KJs foot is right in front of the foot of the MSU player.

This picture really proves a bigger point. All but one of the fouls(#5) are questionable with #4 being egregious. That's all fine and good.

Let's not let our guys off the hook either.

5/24 from three and 17/27 from the foul line. Neither of those, especially the foul shooting, is acceptable.

1/17 from your starters from three is not acceptable.

A bench technical late in a tight game is not acceptable.

Some of the turnovers in absolutely crucial situations isn't acceptable.

Using the refs as the reason for losing is ridiculous. If we do ANY ONE of the above, to even a respectable level, we win.

Did losing KJ hurt and did it make things tougher without him? Absolutely. Should we have won regardless. Absolutely.

No more excuses.

Leading scorer plays 8 min due to foul trouble. 5-24 on 3's. 17-27 FT's not horrible but not good. Missed at least 10 bunnies. With all of that we prolly should have been down by 15, but fought like hell to have a chance to win on the road. At East Lansing. Bring that kind of effort and grit every night and we will have a very good season.

To state the obvious, the refs were atrocious and completely neutralized Kasparis. Also, what did Brad due to get a technical at that critical point(they showed him being remarkably calm). I honestly thought Brad was calm to a fault and should have been working the refs earlier over all the Kasparis fouls.

On the other hand though, the Illini did not play well. They moved the ball well for the first 10 minutes and then just stood around and stopped attacking the basket for the next 25 minutes. Theyre playing 3 6'2 guards, why are you shooting step back 3's?

Boswell can do some things really well but I swear he has a negative basketball IQ. Why are White and Boswell taking heat check step back 3's when neither one is even hot?
And why are those 3 6'2 guards getting to the basket and scoring against the Illinois interior defense?

I'm not saying it's the entire reason why, but only Boswell wasn't in foul trouble between our four guards defending. Riley, KJ, and DGL all had 4 fouls. It had an impact in the last 10 min.

Brad made a great point. We should be playing 34 Big Ten games. Without playing every Big Ten team at home and away, we never really get a true winner. Not sure how that would look, if we need to start the season in October and go to April, but man that would be awesome.

This loss is disappointing....we played over 3/4 of the game without KJ, didn't shoot particularly well especially from 3, missed several free throws and yet had a chance to win at the end.....just couldn't overcome all the adversities in East Lansing....but having said that....the loss to USC at home was a bigger disappointment....that was one that most people had penciled in as a W.....afraid that game will haunt us in several ways as the season progresses

But that’s the thing, I don’t want that! I want to not have to think about officiating at all.

It was such a stupid and maddening thing that, for decades, the entire middle of the country had to talk itself into the notion that “well, homering is just a thing that happens, gotta deal with it” as if asinine officiating was like the weather or something.

I thought it had gotten incrementally better, but maybe the joke’s on me.
I remember the days of Jim Burr and etal.

Several have mentioned it was not on Brad, but I do not think it was really explained what happened. My best guess is that it was for the assistant coaches standing up. Only one coach, usually the head coach (I am not sure if there are exceptions), are allowed to stand at a time and only in the designated box. This is up to the discretion of the refs (they generally allow them to stand to address a player as they are leaving the floor, to briefly celebrate a good play, etc.) and is usually something that is warned prior to issuing a technical foul.

What did they say that was wrong? This regular season championship is now a three horse race. Can't lose to NW(up double digits in the second half) and USC (who's awful) and expect a different response. We put ourselves in this situation and the commentary reflects it.

Now, you're right.....the season's focus is on seeding in both postseason tournaments.

Tre White needs to figure some things out soon if this team is going to make the second weekend of the tourney. He's been non-existent.
Bummer that he couldn't make all three free throws except for one from drawing that foul on his 3 point attempt. Would have been a big momentum swing to have gotten the game tie there 61-61. Our free throws attempts wasn't great today.

Regular Big Ten season Championship means little. Have to look at each team resume separately. Unbalanced schedules make it harder on selection committee 4th or 5th place teams could have better resume than 1st place team

We have to win some of the big games we have coming up to get our favorable seed
