Brad made a great point. We should be playing 34 Big Ten games. Without playing every Big Ten team at home and away, we never really get a true winner. Not sure how that would look, if we need to start the season in October and go to April, but man that would be awesome.

With the players getting a cut of the money coming soon, a 42 (34 conference/8 non con) game regular season starting in October would be a sure fire revenue generator.

Assistants have to watch what they are saying. I speak from experience that assistants really get zero tolerance toward comments about the officials. The head coach will normally get some leeway (and should), but assistants don't get that.

It's an emotional game, and I get that. But you also need to have enough emotional self-control to not even put yourself in that situation. I wasn't able to watch the game today, so I can't really comment one way or another on the officiating (even if I did watch, I generally stay out of the "we lost refs sucked" comments and focus on other things). But I will stand by this comment.
Exactly. This is true at all levels: all the way to junior high.

I am all for eliminating all cupcakes and only playing conference teams or holiday tourneys

Total fouls were dead even at 20 each. Big difference and biggest effect on the game was the 2 or 3 cheap ones on KJ.

We showed great toughness and tenacity in this game- almost overcame the home court officials calls that Izzo gets at a ridiculous rate.
Positives:
1. Confidence for Riley, Morez
2. Hopefully BU sees that playing Ivisic and Morez together at times is a good thing
Negatives:
1. KJ has to play smarter- especially on that 5th foul.
2. Ivisic is too soft and not challenging shots at the rim like he should.
3. Ben is overall playing better and love his occasional bully ball over smaller defenders but once again he missed some crucial box-outs in the second half
4. These losses are going to pigeonhole us into a 4 or 5 seed and, if we get that far, having to play a #1 seed again in the elite 8 matchup rather than in a final 4( again if we get that far). I think we certainly have that capability.
I totally agree with point #2 under the positives.

Seeing some opinions on how we’re a 4-5 seed after this loss. Perhaps, but that’s if the season ended today. I think we’d have a chance at a 3 seed, but 4 seed would be more likely. If we go on a run in the next few games, I think we can move up to 2-3 range. The floor for this team is a 5 seed.

Leaving KJ in with 3 fouls to play matador D and then pick up his 4th foul didn't seem very strategic.
If KJ has a target on his back because the fix is in, it makes sense to play him in high leverage situations. That’s what Brad did.

Good first point. As to officiating, it wasn’t great but about the norm. I find it a little hard to blame officiating when the same exact number of fouls were called on both teams and they shot the same number of free throws. Yes, some of the fouls on KJ were tricky tacky, but at the same token he has to play smarter not to pick up some of the late ones.

Let’s win the next one and start a long streak.

Means absolutely nothing. It's about when and how the fouls are called. Context is everything, and the officials are always able to even things up. The loss was not totally on them, but they were WAY too involved today (in many games) and it happens far too often - especially in the B10. Let the players decide the games and make yourselves less visible. It's not too much to ask. The players and fans deserve way better.

We'd be the scariest 4-5 seed in the field

The worst part is all these MSU fans strutting around thinking they deserved the win today. And that MSU is so much better than Illinois.

They’re such an annoying fanbase.
we are a better team than sparty: playing basically without KJ, 2 of our starters in Ben and Tre combining for only 9 points, the awful officiating, missing 10 free throws, a bad day from 3pt, Tomi playing with strep throat and still only lose by 2 on the road in a hostile environment despite all of that

I thought the same initially, but looking at it a bit more KJ tripped him. I'm sure it was accidental but looking at this frame KJs foot is right in front of the foot of the MSU player.

KJ too often ends up in a position where he's trying to defend from behind his man. Which leads to legit fouls and illegit fouls that refs call because of how it looks. Has anyone ever seen a shot block from behind that a foul isn't called? 🤷‍♂️

I think we win if we cut out the sloppy play on offense and stop settling for bad looks. Too many turnovers and long contested 3s, which allowed MSU to kill us in transition on the other end.
Yep, too many unforced TO's from just being sloppy. Also, that 2nd half stretch from ~12 min to ~8 min, offense was horrendous. Multiple possessions compounded with: Out of rhythm, step back, early shot clock, one on one, no ball movement, deep 3's jacked up. Not surprising they didn't go in. This is the type of moment, I'd like to see BU use a TO to get the guys back on focus.
