The only way KJ’s 4th foul could possibly be called was if that ref was just looking to call something on him. There was a foul on the play…on the MSU player that pushed him and then fell on him. Never heard a basketball coach use the term gross to describe a call. But kudos to Brad. It was very descriptive and accurate.
The timeout gift to Izzo when no one had complete possession of the ball might have been worse.

Can’t fault the team I thought they played hard and battled. A few things I noticed.
-At times, they were over playing Bam and our spacing was horrible. Several times Riley and others parked for a 3 pointer free throw line extended, clogging the penetration lane, instead of floating down to the corner as penetration came their way. Jake Davis was in great position for his 3.
-Ben and Tre were ghosts. With the refs calling contact inside they should have been more aggressive to the rim. I don’t think they showed much fight.
-With their aggressive over playing at the perimeter, back door cuts were there all game as Riley showed in the first half.

I gotta hand it to them on that fifth one. Go around the screen, then when you've got your defender behind you, hit the brakes so he runs into you. You can tell it was designed: the ball handler looked back to make sure KJ was coming before he hit the brakes. Same school as getting your defender to jump on a three- pointer, but I've never seen this one before (or at least never realized what was being done.)
I am not a fan of the pump fake and when you get the defender in the air jump into him. It is a smart play given they almost always call it, just think if the shooter initiates the contact it should be a no-call. You see it more than ever now. Along the same lines, as much as I'm rooting for him, Will goes a little overboard trying to draw his 3-and-1's.

I agree with all the comments about the foul calling especially on 4 of the ones called on KJ.
But, I think the first one was a foul and it was 30 secs into the game. Can’t get one 30 secs into the game no matter what. If he doesn’t get that cheap one so early he probably plays the majority of the half.
Yep. He has to understand his importance to his team and avoid the touch or over-the-back rebound fouls, especially early in the game. Happened at Oregon, too, but he more than made up for it in that second half.

Links to this strutting? I don't doubt you, but want to see it.
Open up your preferred social media app and you’ll see them there. Noticed it on Instagram and Reddit in the comments of any posts about the game.

How many times this season have we seen officials swallow the whistle when the offensive player initiates the contact? For them to call that for his fifth foul was gross.

As Coach put it, you’ve got to expect it up there. Heck they broke Ayo’s face on a dirty shot after the whistle and didn’t even get it called until after a review.

This is just par for the course.

The third foul was a foul. KJ extended his leg and then there was contact.

Second and fourth fouls were gross. First one there was a little contact but the whistle was so late it was like they waited to see the outcome of the shot.
Not a foul the only contact was Akins stepping on his foot. It's just inadvertent contact. It's not a foul or a trip.

Honestly this game just validates the thoughts that this team's ceiling is ridiculously high. For us to even be in the game with all the nonsense that took place is incredible. Let MSU enjoy this one, we have a hell of a lot more to play for.
F that! I want compensation for that BS. Ben Johnson to the Bears.

It's funny how things have changed over the years. I remember watching Charles Barkley early on use that play at the end of games at different times and the refs would never call it. Even the announcers would say that he didn’t deserve to get that foul call because he was only faking to get them into the air so he could create contact. That was not looked at favorably back then. My how things have changed. Now it's considered a smart play.

On 4th foul, 15 jumps into KJ and elbows him in the face, lands losing his balance and as he is falling pushes KJ in chest.

Brad made a great point. We should be playing 34 Big Ten games. Without playing every Big Ten team at home and away, we never really get a true winner. Not sure how that would look, if we need to start the season in October and go to April, but man that would be awesome.
Forget pre season non con. Lace em up and go
