5 for sure. 3 and 1, yes but we certainly see more contact than that go uncalled all the time. Just seemed like they were keyed in on KJ.
Yes! Perfect example from this game: 1st half 8:19 mark Ben gets a dish from DGL in the lane, goes up strong, and is unquestionably fouled at the rim simultaneously by 2 Spartans. No call.

Definition of inconsistency that ruins officiating. If you call subjective, tissue soft, questionable touch fouls there's no way you can get away not calling one on that play. All credibility, respect goes out the window.

There's really no explanation for it. The baseline ref was within 4 ft. of the action. Defenders make foul contact all over the place. They did not go straight up. Compare it to the fouls Morez has been whistled for so many times this year.

It's ridiculous. Extreme frustration is completely justified.

The most important thing for next year is getting a KJ replacement (captain obvious I know). Obviously he wont be as good as KJ but Boswell is astronomically better when he plays his role off of tha kind of guy. We arent going to get another top 5 pick but Boswell as the man even though I love him is a disaster its just not his game.

These refs should be demoted. You don't foul out one of the best players in the nation on iffy tick tack fouls. People tune in to watch the best play. Are they stupid or what

Can we get Pomeroy or Torvik to create some kind of ref grading system lol? I'd love to see some numbers next to names. Seems like B1G refs have had zero accountability for as long as I can remember.

hope it hasn't already been covered but:
I re-watched the no call on the tie up and then the time-out.
There was a ref looking right down at the players on the floor. He did not signal the time-out, you can barely see on the screen's upper right corner but the ref across the court in front of MSU bench gives the time-out. Ref looking down signals a time-out was called by ref standing by the bench by pointing to him.
also, the whistle sounds before the ref next to the play has raised his hand.
Spero Dedes: "Oh my, they gave MSU a time-out".
T called seconds later. Huge call since we had possession arrow. Time on the clock was 3:18 and we were down 4.
Exactly -instead of our ball on a tie up—> it’s two free throws for them and their ball, literally a 6 point potential call. Absolutely mental

Forget pre season non con. Lace em up and go
That's probably a great idea for crowning a BIG conference champ, but who would have anything left for the NCAA tournament after a 34 game home and away season?

My rational self doesn't really believe the game was fixed. But I absolutely buy what @BoiseBaller just said - that the refs were told to keep an eye on KJ (as far as I know, all coaches have these types of convos with the refs to some degree) but because Izzo is Izzo, the refs honored his wishes more than they probably do for most coaches.

All good. We're not out of anything yet.
I'm good with saying 2 and 4 were BS, and I get the argument on 1, think it's a 50/50 call.

3 was 100% a foul. If one of our guys had an open lane to the basket and an opposing player extended their foot in front of them and tripped them, and the refs swallowed their whistle, there's not a single person on this board that would say that was a good no call.

Wow...just wow. The benefit of slow mo and replay of #3 and that's your conclusion? Getting your foot stepped on in a legal position is a foul? SMH

Yes , I'm pizzed drunk and I still could of done a better job than those 3 inept arse clowns...................the Jeff ref is not one of the best refs in the country as BU said in his presser....sorry BU but you are wrong wrong wrong...........I usually never disagree with what BU says , but he is wrong unless he's using praise to gain an advantage down the road.........

I really really believe that if this game had been a routinely terrible officiated game that KJ would have had another 20 + point game with 6-8 assists and we would have a double digit roadkill victory........

Just remember how you felt after this mind numbing fiasco and then multiply that feeling by the n'th degree of quantum physics as to how the players and staff feel.......it's been going on for far too long to have old poor visioned cheats with the whistles determining the outcomes of such important games............refs need to be held accountable to how they f@&ked up the game by being graded PUBLICLY for all to see the results.........

a chain is as strong as it's weakest link , and there's no doubt in my mind that officiating is the weakest link in the Men's and Women's basketball chain.......JMHO......................I'm too upset to think about watching the replay......maybe in a couple years....maybe....................

Well we got the IZOO treatment today, those fouls were bad. The bright side was Riley had a very good game. Have to be ready to fight on the next one.

Big ten has to get better officials. Way to inconsistent on the physicality/fouls

Meant to post earlier but had family obligations

Slo-mo showed that KJ had already planted his foot and the MSU guy stepped into his planted foot. I just don’t see what you’re saying
In the screenshot I posted, where KJ's foot is making contact with the MSU player's foot and the MSU player is already falling forward, KJ's other foot is not in contact with the ground.

You aren't "planted" if one of your feet is in the air. To be planted, both feet need to be planted to the ground at the time of contact.

Also, come on man. KJ is moving the whole time. Slow anything down enough and it might make it look otherwise, but he never planted himself. He never had time to. He was moving in the direction of the play to try and defend and his foot tripped the guy. End of story.

#1 Ben is giving me Luke Goode vibes.. there are many plays where he gets toasted on Defense, misses an open shot (he is supposed to be a shooter right) or doesn't finish the play near the basket.
#2 Ivisic passing is next level. It has been all season. He is a great asset. On the the best big men the team has ever had.

This makes the Maryland game HUGE. We have to get the next two at home. No exceptions, no excuses. Let's hope Kasparas gets to play.

He is very versatile. Probably a nightmare to guard, and deferential nearly to a fault.

There's no "planted" element to defensive position. There's no way a still would be able to tell whether KJ had position.

Anyone and anytime you play in East Lansing you will get the Tom Izzo consistent whining effect to the refs even before tipoff. That guy is going to foul just watch him. He gets calls made against the visiting team every game that add at least 6 points to MSU total. He fights for his team and is constantly lobbying the officials.
