This might just be a bit of prisoner of the moment because I think Nebraska is better than MSU and in the end, the win over the Huskers will likely look better than a win at MSU would.

But right now I would trade that win last week for a win tonight because I am just so sick of losing these types of games at the Breslin, especially when I know we have a better team.

We are a better team than Sparty this year, we have a better program right now and I am flat out pissed that we have lost four straight to that overrated team.
Exactly. That win keeps us from losing the tiebreaker. 3 weeks ago if someone asked us would you take winning 2 out of 3 at Purdue, at Nebraska and at MSU we all would have signed up for that. Of course we wanted all 3 at winning the first two but unfortunate events kept that from happening. We have set ourselves in a very good position to win the conference and right now that is all you can ask for. Purdue and MSU are not in that position currently.

Looking back on the first Nebraska game we lost at home, they beat us fair and square. They had an incredible shooting night and won the game. It was a respectable win and I tipped my hat.

This game wasn’t even basketball and it seemed like they got away with a lot more pushing and shoving, whereas anytime we were physical we got a whistle. I’ll be curious to see how they do in March. This style of play doesn’t seem like it’ll translate well to a single elimination tourney on a neutral court.

I’d also love to see Fears get suspended at some point this season. I think it’ll be good for him and the game.
it's crazy that fears knew all he had to do was run into anyone and he would get the call. in overtime it was just bad.... we still let that game go. we were up 9 and kept missing opportunities.

Definitely played scared  Jake was terrified as he sank 2 FT to force OT.

They didn't lack effort. It was a war. Lost a road game vs. top 10 team with very suspect officiating (particularly in OT) while missing KB.

I think MSU is a deeply flawed team. You force Fears to shoot, you beat Michigan State. You let him penetrate and force contact to get him to foul line, you play right into his game. Wasn't a fan of playing man as much as we did because of that, but we still had ample shot to take this game.
We mixed it up. When we played zone, they were crushing us on the glass.

Well towards the end when he drove on Cooper lost his balance and threw up a wild shot he clearly got tripped. That was Fears go to move all night and the frickn refs never failed to reward him.

I kinda can't believe our only other option for initiating offense was Mirkovic.

Did that seem like a game for Petrovic? Absolutely not, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Yeah, can't help but think Boswell would have made a huge difference in this one. Assuming we have him back, I'd be pretty please to see MSU in the conference tournament.

The fouls and FTs were about even though.

IL was 20-24
MSU was 20-23

IL shot 12 more threes.

I don’t see officiating factoring in here. It was about as even as it gets from the stats.

IL- 21 fouls
MSU- 19 fouls
That's the thing. We're one of the least fouling teams in the NCAA. I get irritated when ppl assume even foul calls are what's fair. What's equitable is were you legitimately fouled.

Refs have to be more attune to the Fears flopping - how is a guy with his reputation getting every call down the stretch! It’s insane

That said we have to guard that pick differently we known Fears is going to turn the corner and draw contact- need to get the ball out of his hands down the stretch

Still, we get one offensive rebound we likely win the game- I never got the feeling we were going to lose until that possession. Wagler forced a ton of shots - we didn’t need him to score tonight just delivered and dish and we would have been fine. It seems he was pressing to score when we didn’t need him to

All great points - Boswell would have made a difference tonight.

Correct. Even’ing out fouls does not mean it’s a well-reffed game. Quite the opposite, actually. What are the odds that two teams who play completely different styles of defenses would commit almost an identical number of fouls over a 45 minute game?

I honestly don’t want to see MSU again in the B1GT. Not because I don’t think we’d win, I do. But because I don’t lil Fears Jr to hurt one of our guys right before the NCAAT.
Yeah, I worry a bit about a little foul play by MSU also, but I really like getting another chance to beat anyone who ever beat us. With a healthy Kylan guarding Fears I don't think this game would have been close.

Idk his post game interview sounded like a changed young man...😂 he's so full of shi and only says what conviens him at the time. Hopefully he learns to take true accountability at some point. Great game from him tho🤷‍♂️
Just now catching up on the thread so apologize if this was said.

If Fears goes into an NBA camp, tries this crap. he will look like an NHL hockey player that has played in the playoffs 9 years in a row.

A lot to process tonight!
1. KW finally played like a Freshman. I’m sure that won’t happen again.
2. Fears is truly today’s Grayson Allen. He’s a dirty player and to be treated by the announcers as a victim was laughable.
3. The 5th foul on Tomi was disgraceful! I hope Brad sends that one to the league office.
4. The no-call on Mirk was tough to swallow as well.
5. MSU showed solid energy resulting in too many rebounds.
6. We gave up way too many back door buckets!
7. We shot extremely poorly!
8. KB was missed tonight. Not only for his defense but also for his leadership.
9. I hope we see them again in the BTT.
10. Given everything that happened, we lost on the road against the #10 team in the country without our best defender and Senior leader.

Our future is extremely bright. We need to enjoy this season and I feel that we are gong on a crazy run in March! :shield:

I was screaming he took 4 steps!!! But they let msu walk all night. Coen carr travels every time he catches the ball in transition.
Yeah I don't really expect to get travel calls but Kohler looked very awkward doing so and it's obvious his pivot foot moved and shouldve been a travel.

And yeah Carr gets away with taking multiple steps when he catches and drives on the perimeter. He is an absurd athlete but he's basically getting a running start before dribbling.

No one else is mentioning it so I will. Tomi is taking Wagler out of the game. EVERY TIME he comes out for a pick and roll to aid Wagler, he picks and sticks! Doesn't roll doesn't move to get open. HE CLOGS. This allows his defender to double team Wagler closing off KW shot attempts and drives. Third game now he is screwing up Wagler's game. He doesn't roll to the basket to catch a lob and hit a wide-open teammate in the corner. He is negating our best player. DISGUSTING!
good observation. It's on the coaches to correct that, in game!

Unfortunately for the young man (fears) Izzo is doing him a huge disservice by not making him play the game see with respect for other on the floor. It will catch up with him soon. While there is big money in nil, at the next level no-one will tolerate this, whether by league or by players. We wanted this guy, has he always played this way or is this MSU "player development"?
