Well, then we have 17 coaches who don't know what they're doing because the guy, despite being an a*****e, is a hell of a PG.

You then mention Purdue, who has the top PG in the country. That's another one where we must have 17 awful coaches.

You couldn't have used two worse examples. That said, we all understand the frustration.

Nothing about this game was surprising. I’m glad we came out healthy. MSU did exactly any everyone thought they would do. If we make just a few more plays we could have had them. Overall I’m not disappointed.
Here's another reality that people got WAY out of hand in projecting how the season would play out.

This absolute nonsense that we were going to run the table and win the conference by going 19-1, winning 20 in a row(or whatever it would have been) is absolute nonsense and ridiculous. Teams have tough nights, players had tough nights, it's really hard to win in the road, etc. That's life in ANY sport.

Heck, look at Michigan at home vs Wisconsin. Look what almost happened to Purdue yesterday.

There's a good chance that we might end up with another clunker, ESPECIALLY on the West Coast. That UCLA game is going to be no joke. They're getting back to the team that the preseason polls thought they'd be. UConn just went through the same experience with St. John's. They're back to playing to expectations and got a W.

We are down a senior PG, are relying in a true freshman and went 2-1 during a stretch where we played 3 top 10 teams, on the road, in three consecutive weekends.

20-4, 11-2... Keep the train rolling and RELAX.

No shame in losing on the road to MSU. I didn't necessarily expect a win but it was a closely contested game throughout and I think this team has proven it can deal with hostile road environments very well. It will serve them well in March.

Couple of items:
A. Wagler played terrible from an offensive standpoint and he still comes away with 16 pts. That's just a sign of someone who still finds a way to get points even when his shot isn't going. Good job though on that last three and the steal to give a shot for tying the game in OT.

B. Who was sick to their stomach listening to Jason Benetti make Fears a sympathetic figure....going on his redemption tour? Redemption tour of what? He's a goon, he's a dirty player, and he proved it again on the "intentional" trip. Fears took the game over in the 2nd half and that's great for him but he's still a dirty player and that is his current reputation until he proves otherwise by not doing acts like that for the rest of the season

What did that accomplish for Dusty and his team? Might be satisfying for fans to have that done in the open but the most effective way is to do that privately with the conference. And if there’s anything he wants to say personally to Tom same thing. Personally I’m glad that we have a smart, strategic and emotionally intelligent coach.
Nope. Shine the light of truth on Jizzo and his thugs every time you can

Everyone is looking at the 1 seed line so it’s understandable the frustration at what could have been another marquee win. Hard to lose and lose that way after so many weeks of not losing. But, yes, it was unlikely they’d run the table. A 1 seed still very possible. A lot of games to play and hopefully some upsets for the existing 1 seeds because we could have another. Win Tuesday and go from there. As much as I want a 1 seed I don’t know that it matters much.

Imagine if Wagler had taken and made the shot from the corner in OT to send it to another OT.

I forgot he had that look in regulation. If you had shown me that pic before the game I’d have taken that situation and liked our odds. Just not his night.

Better yet…. he hits the 3 and gets fouled for the win!

Question for the stat gurus on here. I was looking at team statistics for the Gonzaga vs Oregon State game and saw that Beavers had 0 fast break points. I thought that come to think of it, I didn’t remember Illini having any either — and they didn’t. That led me to look and Illini rank #357 in fast break points with 5.30 per game. I was unable to find stats for previous years. Have the Illini ranked so low in previous years?

Benneti and Smith were terrible last night.
Worst listen of the year

Because they weren't pro-Illini?

As I said multiple times last night, if you're wanting a biased broadcast, there is the radio option. You don't have to listen to the TV broadcast, especially if you perceive (albeit falsely) that they have some sort of bias against Illinois.

We had none

Losing that game stinks, but we will be fine. We certainly could have shot a bit better and defensive rebounded better. I hate how MSU plays. They foul the entire time, and the refs aren't going to call 95% of them, particularly at home with angry Izzo barking at them.

Fears is good, but man is he such a dirty player. Not only the Mirk play....when MSU hit the 3 to go up by 2 towards the end of regulation, he also tripped Z. I had to watch it a few times to notice, but Z did not just randomly stumble and almost fall out of bounds on that play. Dirty Jeremy, very subtly, lifted his foot just enough while sticking it out to hit Z's foot and make him stumble. Very hard to notice, and also hard to pull off so subtly......unless of course you are the type of player who has tons of practice doing it....also, on another MSU three, he passed it ahead and started "sealing" off our defender well before the shot went up, while outside the 3 pt line so nobody could even defend the shot.

He is really, really dirty.

What impressed me most was just how business like this was for the team. I never got the sense that the moment was too big, team was overwhelmed, or that they couldn't withstand the punches thrown. Be it the calls not going our way, the fact that fears was getting whatever he wanted, the only thing I felt was that this team has it under control and at the end, we will be right there...if not in the lead. Now I miss Kylan for sure and think he could've been the factor that put us up over the edge, but going into march, this team is so poised. Love our chances

This is what I continue to not understand.

Fears’ dirty play and flopping were all over national college basketball media this week. The conference has to know about all of the negative publicity.

A good officiating coordinator and assignor gets this crew on a Zoom call Saturday morning and says we cannot have what has occurred this week happen tonight. It’s a Fox national game. The national media has been all over us this week. You guys need to deal with it quickly. That clearly didn’t happen. It’s like everyone ignored the events of this week.

I’m a high school and former small college soccer official. I watch video and talk with officials to know about “problem children” in my games, and I deal with them. I don’t understand how a major college basketball conference can’t deal with a problem like this, except to only assume they don’t want to deal with it.

The officiating coordinator and assignor should honestly lose their jobs over this. The new assignor should tell Jeff Anderson that he can take his fake high knees ref show to the Horizon League. The conference looks like a joke right now, but they won’t do a thing about it.
This is where our Athletic Director needs to get involved. The Big Ten office is currently extremely weak.

I am so impressed with Wagler. Even though he was having a tough night, he did not shy away from taking a game-winning shot at the end -- a shot he makes at about a 44% clip all year. It was our best chance to walk out of that environment with a win as foul trouble and the way the whistles were going made OT pretty dicey. Also, looking at the replay, I did not realize in real time how close Jake came to an "and-1" on the last-second rebound try. He is such a gamer.

Did anyone else notice that almost every time their bigs rolled down to seal our bigs for Fears'drives, they would wrap their arms around the backs of our guys to hold them? Never called...
Same with the moving screens they set near the top of the key for Fears. The announcers kept praising those and they were clearly moving and holding us.

The Athletic Director getting involved in men's basketball officiating? Really? Maybe he should call Fears' Mommy first. If Fears was playing "dirty" why is it only mentioned on this board? Where are the sportswriters, players and coaches? Not a word from any of them. How is the "Big Ten office" whatever that is "currently extremely weak." No seeing it - The Big 10 is one of the most profitable sports entertainment franchises in the world at present. That owes to the last expansion and the TV deal for men's and women's sports. Their NIL collective is the second strongest on - line merchandise marketing line in the world. I don't see anyone on television in the press or from any member schools making any comments whatsoever about "weakness." Do you mind elaborating?
