Won't win many games getting out rebounded like that and giving up 70% shooting

Let's stop kidding ourselves. We're at the bottom of the big ten...alone. We either need to recruit (1 signed for next year) or get a heck of a coach. Neither is happening. It's going g to take a fluke year to even make the tourney. Illinois sports must trend with Illinois politics. Crap

That’s the most effort I’ve seen against out of an Illinois team in at least 4 years. I’m not worried about our coach.

Anyone else losing faith in Underwood as each game goes by?

I never saw that sort of all out effort out of a Groce team. Nor Weber past the '05 team.

That was so much better. It nice to see a 3rd scorer show up. That is needed every night

I’m actually really impressed that this team continues to show up and fight. I’d like to see more wrinkles in the offense but this roster is limited. He inherited a dumpster fire of a roster... also the transfers didn’t help.. The freshmen are freshmen but have exceeded expectations. Leron has been serviceable but you need size to compete in the big ten.

No. Wisconsin game was concerning but, the effort we came back with tonight makes me feel better about the direction we are going. Will take some time.

What? You do know that Michigan State has two lottery picks and I don't think I can point to a sure fire NBA 2nd round pick on this team, right? I understand that question after the Wisconsin game, but he was racing against a Ferrari with a Honda Civic tonight.

What??? No! Why would you ask that after all the script about us needing talent.Let's give him time to get his players in place.

Look at the conference standings, even overall record for that matter

Sure by record but I think other teams at the bottom are just as bad. This team is in the lower half of the big 10 and you were kidding yourself if you expected anything different

Aside from Wiscy Ive enjoyed watching the team for the most part. They showed their "mettle" despite way outmatched tonight down low. Id say our guards outplayed theirs...JMO.

I believe we may have a win in B10 if TJL was playing the last 3 games. Offense runs best with him in there.

Pretty decent effort tonight. Kipper was really good. Finke played OK. Frazier was off a little but still brought it. Tejon played well. Alstork played Ok defensively, but he has absolutely no offensive game. Williams was Ok defensively but he & Smith need to get in the gym this offseason & shoot, shoot, shoot. We definitely need a decent big.
Get Indiana.

We beat #1 Indiana at home with Groce. Losing by 13 or whatever it was at home to a #6 team and we all act like its a win? Effort, sure. Talent, coaching, non-existent.

Jesus H Christ dude, we're playing 4 freshman and have a new coach/system, it's an effn rebuild. Give. It. Time.

I saw a team that was playing at an incredible disadvantage by the system and scheme their coach has decided to play. This team is so far away athletically and personnel wise to be playing Underwood's system. We won't have the players for another 3 years (if were lucky). Even OSU had high caliber players and it didn't work. I honestly can't remember a game where an opponent had so many dunks and layups. We forced 25 turnovers!!!! and were absolutely dominated.

People act as if we have a Top 5 class coming in next year where we will magically be able to play this system. We have a one man class for next year! Not to mention were losing Alstork who is one of the only guys that can defend in this system. We are begging big men to transfer and no one is interested.

Time to get a clue.

Underwood did what he could, which was to play pressure D and try to turn them over. If we let them get in to real half court sets it would have been much worse.

The result of pressure D is lots of layups and dunks especially when your bigs are small and late on weak side help

It is what it is

Absolutely not. When he gets a roster of his guys, his team will be tough to play. Even with a Groce roster, the pressure is pretty good up top, they just don't have a rim protector (come on down Okoro!).

How is this even possible?? Probably the best coach the Illini could get and people are still upset. I don't care if they lost tonight, it was enjoyable to watch. Underwood will get his players.

I agree with this ^^^^. Play a half court game without the pressure and we lose by 30+.
