Mid-1980s pizza place on Green

O'Malley's was the only place that I knew of that had quarter beers and I think they did it on Sunday and Monday nights.

I seem to recall Cochrane's had a 3-2-1 night where they would have 3 Old Milwaukee or 2 Miller GD or one Beck's (or equivalent) for 3 bucks. Might have been on Thursday nights?

We would hit R&R on Friday for happy hour. 3 buck Miller Lite pitchers and quarter dogs. Can't beat that!

My dad loved Garcia's. He'd take a couple of pies home with him whenever he visited. There was one on First or Second and Green and they'd sell the whole pies.
Late 70's here. The best was summer school. Literally, every place around had a special to try getting someone in the door. You could eat and drink the whole week for $10.

Who had the promotion Drink the Wall, it was 10 different drinks or shots and you got a Tshirt for doing it, was it O'Malley's? Me and my roommate did it one night and he got arrested for public intoxication, lmao.

Yeah, O'Malley's I think. I did it once too and they didn't have any Large or XL t-shirts so I had to take a medium. Never wore the danged thing it was so small.

And if memory serves, all of those drinks were nasty. It wasn't the alcohol that was the problem, it was the massive amounts of garbage they added to it.

Was just sharing memories of The Wall with my Illini alumni children who never knew O'Malleys. I didn't drink the wall but also never saw anyone after they did who wasn't drunk to the verge of alcohol poisoning.

My ex registered a reading of 0.325 one night years after we divorced..........I was still listed under contact info and the dude who called me about it mentioned alcohol poisoning was possible...........

I always liked Giovanni’s for stuffed pizza. It was located in the basement of the church just east of the Union. Good stuff. Mid-late 80s.

It was a nice change up from papa dels- my all time favorite.

I also enjoyed Garcia’s before they imploded and quality went down
Giovanni's! They were on Green for awhile and oddly moved into that basement in 86, I believe. The owner was either a worker or manager at a Giordano's. Giovanni's was a duplicate but for far cheaper. Sausage and canadian bacon....Mmmm.

Me and my roommate one summer (probably 1985 or 86) decided to see if we could drink A to Z in Champaign/Urbana (though don’t remember going anywhere in Urbana) all in one day. After doing a little research, we realized it needed to be Z to A for timing purposes (our Z was Zorba’s and it wouldn’t be open late enough to do A to Z). There were only two letters we couldn’t find places for — Q and X, so we combined them and drank a Dos Equis in a La Quinta Inn parking lot. We actually made it all the way through — finishing at The Alley Cat — with only one mishap. I believe it was at the C (can’t remember place), though it might have been the Brass Rail. They wouldn’t serve my partner in crime, and then when he was drinking out my beer he dropped it, and we were kicked out.

Certainly not the smartest nor most responsible thing I’ve ever done, but thankfully other than a nasty hangover the next day we came away unscathed.

I want to sit in Treno's with a pitcher of beer and eat popcorn.
Worked at Treno's for several years. Was my second home while an undergrad. Pizza there was great too. Made too many to count. The afterwork/cleanup pizzas were extrodinary. Still have my Treno sweatshirts.

Ok. I ended up here simply by googling best pizza in CU. My wife and I are heading to UI for the IL-IA game and our 40th anniversary. Been back sporadically over the years. Used to go regularly after graduation for FB and BB games. Then kids arrived. Still went (sometimes with them in tow) until their activities became the priority. I arrived in Chambana in 1976. I met my future wife at PAR. T-bird and Treeno's as 18 year-olds was outstanding and, in hindsight, so ridiculous. T-bird 55-oz buckets of beer and Treeno's had so much beer spilled we would stick to the floor. Learned how to play Foosball and was good enough to never have to pay to play. Garcia's gutbusters were the best. I worked at the Illini Inn for 3 years delivering (and eating) Willie's Thick and Cheesy Pizza. Pagliai's grinders in Urbana. The Alley Cat behind Katsina's, The Red Lion, Panama Red's for music like Duke Tomatoe and Muddy Waters. Had a friend that DJ'ed at PGU. We called him up all the time and told him what was new he should play. Saw Talking Heads in the Auditorium when there were just the four and hadn't yet become known. Went through Blackman then Moeller then White (what a wild ride over 7 years that was). Saw the early years of the Henson era. Oh well.... Any questions?

Stumbled upon this thread. Freshman and sophomore year (70-71) in ISR (Townsend 4 South). We used to pick up a late night pizza at Manzellas just about every night. It was a pick up only pizza place on Goodwin just south of Illinois. Associated with Italian Patio. Good pizza.

as I guy who had numerous varied campus jobs, I would be curious to hear stories of tips/money earned/ weird incidents from pizza delivery drivers back in the 1980's - 2000's
