I'll second Pilot Project. The Milwaukee location is their second (first was in Chicago), but the food menu looks much better. All of the breweries Pilot Project supports make excellent brews, too. You really can't go wrong there.

Edit: for those who might not know, Pilot Project is a brewery incubator, which is just a fancy way of saying they help small brewers with promise get off the ground. They help keep the costs of equipment and supplies down so those independent brewers can be set loose on new creations. It's a really cool way to get new people into the brewery game, and I will always gladly give them my money to keep that mission going.

I just find it funny that if Wisconsin would have beat Penn State at home at the end of the regular season we would most likely be in Providence instead. Wisconsin losing games they should win in their last regular season game keeps paying off.

For those that do not like the 4hr drive, going by Amtrak takes 5-8hrs depending on the train. Tickets are usually under $40. [I have not looked at the exact schedule for this year.]
Took the Amtrak from CU last fall. Normal ride to Union Station (2 hours ish) and then switch to a much nicer, newer commuter train for 1.5 hours up to Milwaukee which leaves you right down town within walking distance to everything. I'd do it again anytime.

For the Milwaukee pizza try Rocky Rococo. It’s wisco’s version of Garcia’s pizza.

I was thinking more about what a great draw this was for us, and I wanted to look back at our "favorable" First Weekend locations over the years. Keep in mind that the top 4 seeds are considered officially "protected," in that the Committee at least tries to put them in a location that is favorable. In other words, if you are placed in a favorable location as a #5 seed or higher, it's all luck! So, we should be thankful. I'm excluding 2021 since it was all in Indianapolis, and I am of course being subjective about what constitutes a "favorable" location for a large Illini contingent of fans (e.g., Milwaukee might be 3.5 hours from Champaign, but it is under 1.5 hours from Chicago, so it is just as favorable in my eyes as Indianapolis).

1984: Milwaukee, WI as a #2 seed. We beat Villanova before moving on to Lexington, where we'd get that infamous Elite Eight loss to Kentucky on their home court.

1989: Indianapolis, IN as a #1 seed. We won both games before moving on to Minneapolis for the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight.

2002: Chicago, IL as a #4 seed. We won both games by double digits before heading to Madison for the Sweet Sixteen, where we lost to #1 seed Kansas in a close game.

2003: Indianapolis, IN as a #4 seed. We won our first game, but we went down to the Second Round to #5 seed Notre Dame. I would have to rely on someone who attended that disaster, but I would not be surprised whatsoever if there were more Illini fans in Indy than Notre Dame fans for hoops...

2005: Indianapolis, IN as a #1 seed. We won both games before heading to the Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight in the even more favorable location of Rosemont! That 2005 team got SUCH a nice path, going from Indy to Chicagoland to St. Louis ... played virtual home games in all six games.

So this is really the first time since 2005 where we have been placed in a First Weekend location where we are likely to have an Illini-friendly crowd. And in our history, we are 8-1 in First Weekend games in front of Illini-friendly crowds ... so hopefully that is a good omen!

P.S. Fun fact, but our 2005 team set an attendance record for a Second Round NCAAT game, drawing 40,331 for our game vs. #9 seed Nevada at the old RCA Dome in Indy. I believe that attendance record still stands (considering most First Weekend games are in basketball arenas with smaller capacities), but I am not 100% sure.

While there is plenty of Kentucky blue (they shared that site with us that year), I think we clearly outdrew Big Blue Nation in 2005 ... let's hope that is ALSO a good omen for this weekend.

zaffiro's on/near brady street is another good pizza option. kind of like chicago tavern style with a crispier crust.

Had Zaffiro's last fall and it was fantastic. Would smash one of those any time.

One follow-up on my previous post about location, this is our record for the First Weekend (i.e., first two rounds) by region and specific location since the NCAA Tournament expanded to its modern 16-seed format in 1985.

14-3 in the Midwest
5-1 in Indianapolis, IN
2-0 in Chicago, IL
2-0 in Dayton, OH
2-0 in Omaha, NE
2-1 in Columbus, OH
1-1 in Cincinnati, OH

6-7 in the South
2-0 in Atlanta, GA
2-2 in Charlotte, NC
1-1 in Winston-Salem, NC
1-2 in Austin, TX
0-1 in Birmingham, AL
0-1 in Oklahoma City, OK

3-4 in the West
1-1 in Sacramento, CA
1-1 in Salt Lake City, UT
1-1 in San Diego, CA
0-1 in Portland, OR

1-2 in the East
1-1 in Pittsburgh, PA
0-1 in Albany, NY

So while there is a pretty obvious lurking variable that we are more likely to play in the Midwest if we have earned a higher seed (and thus theoretically have a team more capable of winning NCAAT games), we VERY clearly have a much, much, MUCH better record in First and Second Round games when we get to play closer to home. The only Midwest losses out of all 17 games in the region are...

1) 2007 First Round as a #12 seed in Columbus, OH (so we weren't favored, even though we blew a lead...)
2) 2003 Second Round as a #4 seed in Indianapolis, IN (lost to #5 Notre Dame)
3) 1988 Second Round as a #3 seed in Cincinnati, OH (lost in a heartbreaker to #6 Villanova)

Let's paint Milwaukee orange and carry these guys to the Second Weekend!!

Surely someone must know what section(s) we’re in at Fiserv by now?

Shooting the shot here - anybody know the Illini sections at Fiserv for Sunday if we win tonight? Ticket rep advised me they will in fact change from the 118 & 223 that are confirmed for tonight, but he didn't know what they'd change to, which I found bizarre. Any idea?
