This just in. New B1G commish receives private advisory by Kevin Warren to have Illinois forfeit the game, the win is accredited to Michigan, and Illinois remaining schedule will be changed to as follows: Purdue, Purdue, Purdue, Purdue, BOS Celtics, Purdue, Purdue.

So I guess the assumption is that Minny can’t safely field a team?

You can’t just have one person get sick and say “COVID DELAY” anymore.

I believe the B1G put rules in stating “if you have X amount of scholarship players you have to play or forfeit” right? It’s why Northwestern played understrength when they came out of their pause.

So…is Minny in the middle of an outbreak?

I know Minnesota had injury issues as well so I wonder if the combination of COVID positive athletes and the ones who were already hurt made it impossible to fill a roster.

While it's frustrating to not have this game to wipe the bad taste of a loss out of our mouths, I would much prefer the game be canceled than to have played it and see some of our guys catch COVID and have to miss games against Rutgers, Penn State, Indiana...etc. Could really throw things out of wack.

The thing I've seen brought up on twitter that does seem strange now is that we are canceling games for COVID outbreaks still, but when the flu runs through a team...play ball!

pretty sure you need to have 8 guys in uniform and ready to play.
I do not know what the specifics are regarding if that means 8 scholarship players , or if the league expects you to to field a team of 1/2 walkons if the need be, to get to 8.

Apparently, Minnesota has been playing with only 8 scholarship players due to injury. It wouldn't take many people getting sick to put them in this position.

ScUM just awarded B1G regular schedule crown due to all remaining games (except for theirs) declared forfeits due to COVID . .

Game will likely be made up on the 20th. After Indiana-we would have Minnesota and Northwestern at home back to back, which should be 2 wins there
Humbly disagree. Minny is likely a win regardless...too many things affect their motivation. But the Wildcats will be a battle in C-U. They have two All-B!G players and a solid roster plus they will have several reasons to play to the buzzer.

Illini have a size advantage, but for quickness, shooting skills, turnovers and defense the Cats have a slight advantage. Be glad the game is in Champaign and hope the bottom performance for our guys is rising. My hope is that our bench can make the difference along with our starting bigs plus TSJ having a strong game.

My understanding is that if you have seven or more healthy and uninjured scholarship players, then your choices are to play or forfeit. Minnesota had eight uninjured scholarship players last week. This implies that at least two of their uninjured players subsequently tested positive for COVID.
