It's ok to be ticked off about this loss and be ticked off that Underwood can't seem to get the team up for this game and still know this is a top 15 team.

Losing this game 3 years straight infuriates me more than most fans, but I still think they are figuring out how to play with each other a little bit. Gotta clean things up over the next month.

Missouri fans may not believe this but that was the best game they could've played. That choppy whistle riddened cadence suited them much better than us, coupled with their phenomenal free throw shooting. I honestly believe we beat them 9 out of 10 times and this environment gave way to the 10%. Trent needs to start taking some of these open looks he gets and let it fly. Curbelo also nees to know how to not kill momentum pressing too much sometimes. Overall I'm ticked at the loss but those guys always play us with a chip on their shoulder bc they believe the rest of the country should view them as peers whereas our team thinks this is just another game aside from shutting down Mark Smith.

Underwood outcoached again...will he go the way of in over their heads Groce and Weber? So tired of Illini not prepared for opponents.

This place is so toxic after losses and so many here need to stop being so reactionary after every game (good or bad). Mizzou was barely an underdog. I think we beat them at least 6 out of ten times and we just didn't have it tonight. Against Duke we had 6 guys with double figures and another with 9. Tonight I think we had 3 in double figures. Learn, grow, and let's go win a B1G title.

We're the more talented team. They were the better team tonight. Just like last year, they played like they wanted this game more than us. Our talent nearly brought us all the way back, to steal a W, but wow, F.T.'s just can't be that inconsistent for a top 10 team.

Last year after this game everyone wanted to fire Underwood. A couple of you seem that you want to “fire” Ayo this year.
What is he supposed to do? Throw it to Kofi to miss a pass. Sadly our best game was Ayo to drive and at least get it on the glass for Kofi to O Rebound or put in the shot. NO ONE ELSE SHOWED UP! With the exception of Belo in the first half.

Hate to loose this game, but if we end the year like we did last year after playing like that I’m ok with it.

Monte was hobbling a little when he came back in, let’s just hope it’s some bruising and he’s ok. We CANT loose anyone in our rotation right now!

Side note: at least I didn’t have to pay to see them loose this year. On to the next one. Time to shoot some free throws.

Refs made this game unwatchable but you gotta make your free throws.

Mizzou can beat Duke, they played great tonight, I give them props but hate them, we are adjusting our players and haven't got it right yet, But....20 games in I wouldn't want to play us! 20 games in CURBELO!

Am I the only one that is begging for some zone??
Yeah, I don’t think we need to do it all the time, but a 2-3 with Kofi clogging the middle seems like it’d be a nice throw in a couple times a game to switch it up and keep teams on their toes.

I think this team will struggle if it can't find a way to make more than 3 3's a game, and get production from someone other than Ayo, Kofi and Curbelo. It's difficult to win in todays game making 2 pointers against the fire power a lot of teams have from 3 point range. Iowa attempted 40 treys in a game last week!

Yeah the lack of attempted 3’s is perplexing...

We’re shooting them at a very high %...I don’t get why there aren’t more attempts. Where was Miller tonight?

I love Ayo, but too much hero ball at the end. He forgets there are 4 other guys on the floor in those situations. Curbelo on the other hand has a knack for finding the open guy and getting him the ball. Seems pretty obvious you'd want him handling the ball with Ayo playing off the ball

Well that sucked. Illinois didn't deserve to win, but I think the refs ruined the game just with the way they called it thru out. It was a FT contest and Mizzou won it. Key part of the game was Ayo misses 2 FTs, foul on rebound, then Tilmon hit 2. 4 point swing in a close game like that was the ultimate difference.

Ayo was great. Curbelo good. He just brings us so much with playmaking you gotta keep him on the floor. Rest of the guys really didn't stand out. I thought Mizzou's players played harder. They outrebounded us. They got after us.

Credit to Mizzou. They deserved to win.
Illinois played poor enough to lose.
Ref crew shouldn't ref another game. They ruined it
Great Post. My feelings exactly. Ayo & Curbelo showed up. No one else did. I believe our guys actually think they are good, like they have been reading all of their accolades. When will Illinois understand that until a banner is hung, they have not arrived. We all understand that Duke is not a typical Duke team, so don't think too highly of that game. You have to come out and fight like you will lose if you don't. I believe our guys really thought this was just a show up and win. The refs were terrible. Just terrible. Definitely give credit to Mizzou. Played hard and made free throws.

Ugh. Come on man!

Unpopular opinion:
We win by 2 against Ohio U
We get exposed by Baylor
We beat a soft “Duke” team
We lose to Mizzou for the 3rd year in a row
We aren’t a top 10 team
We might make the sweet 16
Ayo and Kofi will be on campus in 2021
..........
Someone tell me I’m wrong

This was Ayo in the last 3 minutes...

2:22 - Missed layup
1:27 - Turnover
1:05 - Foul
1:05 - Turnover
0:04 - Missed 3...a running one with 4 seconds still left on the clock.

I love Ayo. But if we go deep in the tourney, this can't happen. He's the leader of the team and the #1 option. He has to step up and make plays himself AND know when he needs to move to ball to another player to make a big shot.

And we can't shoot 50% from the line. Frustrating loss.

Curbelo is still really good though...
Ayo was gassed at the end and tried to play hero ball. In his defense, no one really was an offensive threat in the 2nd half from the mid-range or outside. Miller, Frazier, and Demonte were not scoring threats from outside tonight.

Can someone explain to me what happened to Trent Frazier?? Dude was such a great scorer, where did he go? We need him to be aggressive on offense to win.

#120
We need Trent to find his offensive confidence. He played with Curbelo’s confidence as a Freshman and it’s seemed to disappear the last couple years. I’m all for stepping back for the good of the team, but he needs to be a bigger threat to score. Right now, he’s not much more than a spot up shooter when we know he’s capable of so much more.
Well said.

Ayo made mistakes at the end but nobody else stepped up. Miller was missing wide open shots he's been hitting all season. Can't blame Ayo for this loss...this was never a game he could win on his own and we lost the moment it got to that point

Very disappointing night for us all. We are the better team but we came out with no energy to start the game. I think that the team thought they could turn it on at any moment. That doesnt ever bode well. The refs were absolutely awful on both sides. It is inexcusable for refs to call 52 fouls in a 40 minute game. Georgi had 4 fouls in about 4 minutes. He was taken out of the game. Let the boys play!!!! Ayo did all he could to will the team to victory but he definitely looked tired the last few minutes. Miller, Frazier, and Williams were basically a no show and we still almost got the win. Although i hate losing to Mizzou, this will help us later in the season and make us more battle tested. We still have a long way to go in the season and are going to get a whole lot better before its all said and done.

If “down the stretch” means the last 3 possessions in your mind, then you’re just not giving him enough credit. We were dead, no energy, down 13 and he willed us back into the game. I think the last 10 minutes “down the stretch” he played great and didn’t get much help. Guess it depends how you define that.
Starting with about 5 minutes left, this is what Ayo did in order:
Missed a layup that Kofi rebounded and slammed
Turned the ball over, we got it back and fed it back to Ayo who then charged (2 turnovers on one play)
Made a 2
Hit the side of the backboard
Turned the ball over
Called for another charge (he did extend his arm out)
Threw up the slop shot
Ayo is an incredible player, and we wouldn’t have been in the game without an outstanding game from him, but let’s not rewrite history and pretend our star player can do no wrong. As mentioned above, he’s a smart player and will adjust. He tries to do too much and I blame coach for letting it happen again. We looked so good against Duke because we played team ball throughout and moved the ball around to everyone.
