Dismal performance. I hate the fact that we have to wait another year for a shot back at them. One of the worst feelings I've had after a game in the over 40 years I have been an Illinois fan. Ranks up there with the debacle at Nebraska when Bruce was on his way out.
I thought the same thing about that Nebraska game, but at least I knew that Meyers gave a crap.

Correct Pru.....he's was just too careless with the ball last night.....6 TO's in 29 minutes of play I believe...that's got to change if he's triggering the offense
He has had over 5 turnovers in 12 games and that's awful. Maybe it's time to rethink that decision. I think Epps and Skyy are better choices and should only get better. I like Epps assertiveness and think Skyy us capable of the same or better but they both are still adjusting to power five hoops. Hawks been here three years now. He should be ready but he has continued to struggle caring for the ball.and that hasn't changed. We benched AC last year and made changes and it may be time to make a change now.

He had nearly 1/3 of our 17 TOs. Others were careless, too, but only Epps (3) had more than two TOs. At one point around mid-2nd half SECN flashed a stat: Miznoz had 32 points off llini turnovers. We trailed at that moment by 33. SMH.

Regarding CoHawk, earlier in Dec and in Nov he was usually the sun around which our offense rotated. I was at the MD game and he was everywhere on offense, distributing, making plays, crashing the O glass, and I was amazed at how he had improved over the year. Against MD he had 1 TO out of our 12 total. Now, as others have noted, he gets frustrated b/c others aren't running the intended offense, and makes mistakes.

When asked what changed, Shannon said the team was together and not arguing against Texas and UCLA. Hello.
This and Brad's saying multiple times that the switching has meant there is no defensive accountability were the two most interesting quotes from that presser. Just a ton of immaturity on this team, regardless of player age. That leads to the lack of toughness coach spoke about.

Yes to both. You think his body language and pressers of late indicate he does?
I think he knows exactly what needs to be fixed and knows that it is going to be brutal. Chemistry is fixed by the players, facilitated by the coaches. Then the consequences of playing time is directly related to how the players fix it. It is not a matter of being unaware of how to fix it, it is the unknown of how the team will come together to fix it.

Not really they are still 11-1.
They have played NOBODY. Until last night their best win was against Wichita State, who the media are actively calling for the coach to be fired, (I live in the area) that will be a quad 3 win by the end of the season.

Getting up and sitting down to read the post game thread on a snow day was not a great idea. What I’m taking away from all the “suggestions’ is that we have great players and great coaches. We should also bench them all and start over cause they suck.🤣

So many hot takes I almost forgot the wind chill is minus 45 in western IL. Underwood will figure it out.

When I heard Shannon say in the presser we got “ a long season ahead of us” ?? I’m thinking uhh, it’s a lot shorter than it
was two months ago, dude.
What are we, 12 games into the season?? Where’s the urgency? We’d best awaken from our slumber or it’s gonna be over. To have this much talent and underperform like this is truly frustrating.

I feel for Shannon a little…having to be the face of the team after a second epic collapse like that. I mean geez what do you say?

I had a pretty good indication 4-5 games back something was amiss when it was taking us an entire half to simply get into a press. Anyone who has ever coached at just about any level can tell you that’s not a normal, mentally healthy basketball team.
How many possessions are in a half? Youthful lapses are one thing. But this wasn’t that. It was symptomatic of dysfunction. Huge 🚩 red flag…
I didn’t wanna believe at the time…and now we’re seeing more of that unraveling.

We’re pretty much rudderless and drifting out to sea. I hope Brad can right the ship.

Tough one to stomach. I think BU has done a very good job with the program but hope he has not become our version of Norm Stewart in this series.

Well dub, I'm glad we both woke up this morning and as i was walking downstairs , an overwhelming sadness overcame me.....left me feeling an empty feeling like I had before BU became our coach........

The performance on the court usually portrays what is going on off the court.......What happened to the days of wine and roses when we came back against ucla and hung in there and came back against texas.........is misery better than those two teams ??...................I think NOT.......

Have we gotten worse since those games ??........i would say YES.......It seems more to me that we have some huge problems bringing our so called great practices onto the court against (as BU stated last night ) a different colored jersey.......
the increased reference to the Illini being soft is becoming a fact based on the psu game and the game last night...........we need players willing to get down and dirty on the court over so called NBA projected players and right this sinking ship......

I didn't see a link to the post above about the Illini with a 57 % chance of making the tourney but it doesn't surprise me at all.........it was a listless , lazy performance by some last night that has me worried the most ........no hustle means to me no playing minutes.......

That is BU's best weapon to get the players to pay attention to him , as the screaming and yelling seems to be going in one ear and out the other ear to some that are getting the majority of playing time.....

effort sometimes overcomes skill differential.........a lack of effort overcomes nothing and can become a pattern down the road.....

could we be seeing a trend with NIL payments causing overactive ego's ................remains to be seen as to what is going on behind the scene's.......

All I hope for is for ALL the players to leave it all on the court in an all out effort to win the games we play ...................just how I played the games in my heyday.........Now in my golden years I can't understand why we are going down a rabbit hole with the conference schedule starting full bore......

I'm worried ............................I really really really am.......................

With all of our offensive troubles this year, I find it kind of depressing to see Brandin Podziemski doing so well when we more or less let him go. That’s without even diving into Curbelo too. What we decided to keep instead on the team hasn’t produced offensively with any consistency whatsoever. Granted, I am not privy to any team happenings behind closed doors, but I’m beginning to question some of the roster decisions.

It must have been tough for him but I'm fairly confident BU put him in that position b/c he's the leadership hope for the group at this point in the absence of Luke.

When we don't have guys making tough contested threes, then our offense is atrocious. No movement, poor spacing. We don't really run anything. Needs to get fixed asap.
I heard all preseason how this team had length and slashers who would be getting to the rim all the time. Reliance on the 3? Not with this team. We’ll be running and slashing to the hoop. Well that’s not what we’re seeing. Not sure if the rate of shooting 3s has declined at all, but doesn’t seem like it. Cutting is almost nonexistent.

Everyone talked about the high ceiling for this team, and I thought it had one too. Maybe it still does, but them actually achieving its high ceiling seems like a pie in the sky right now. Players need to forget about all the preseason optimism and glowing articles on their NBA potential and work on raising the floor for this team.

Here’s what I don’t understand. Hawkins plays like garbage and almost never gets benched. Melendez breathes wrong and he’s on the bench the rest of the night. I think one of the biggest issues is that BU has wrecked their confidence with some crazy substitution patterns.

Also, I like Epps but he's had his ups & downs as well. Skyy's gotta clean up the D but he's going to be good.
