MLB Thread 2026

The owners want a cap. The players are adamantly against it. I think the only way the players would agree is if there would be a pretty generous salary floor that forced some teams to spend more. IIRC 75% of the owner have to agree on a new labor agreement and I can't see Miami/Tampa/Pittsburg et al signing up for that. Could be a long delay for 2027 baseball.

I’m a bit concerned that part of any deal might involve some streaming service or network contract with MLB that could make it more difficult/expensive to watch games.

I remember how long it took baseball to regain fans after last strike. People will find plenty of things to do in spring and summer. I enjoyed all the free evenings to see music, go to beaches and parks more than usual and play hoops and tennis.
Let the billionaires and millionaires fight it out. I feel for the peanut vendors though.
