From the link on Point-Illinois' post"
Here's how Tom Izzo reacted to the news through the Spartans:

"Rocket Mortgage has been a valued partner for years with Michigan State and we are excited that they are continuing to support our program into the future," said Michigan State Men's Basketball Coach Tom Izzo. "As presenting sponsor of our season, their presence will be an asset as we compete for championships."

Something in that last sentence just doesn't seem accurate, but I can't quite put my finger on it. ;)

Given how physical they play, they should've been sponsored by personal injury attorneys.

I will laugh now while I still can as this may be the way of the future.

MSU Changes Name

TL;DR

The Michigan State Spartans will now officially be called “The Michigan State Spartans Presented by Rocket Mortgage”

Or MSSPRM for short?

Really flows off the tongue.

Man, this is better than I thought when I saw the headline. I thought the Greeks were coming for the name Spartans.

I have little doubt this is the future. And honestly it wont bother me near as much as when the announcers constantly are reading ads. If you’ve listened to bears games on the radio you know what I’m talking about. I feel like I miss half the game because they have to read an ad every first down, every kick, every sack, every everything. I hope college sports never comes to that.

i think it would be more appropriate for them to be sponsored by the UFC considering their style of play,

This is disgusting. If UI follows suit, they will never see another dime from me.

After this, if you still believe the notion that D1 P5 basketball players are amateurs and should be playing for a free education and free room and board, then I have some beach houses to sell you in Kansas. Or Modesto.

This is such a horrible precedent but I guess it was only a matter of time.

It/they will.

I don't follow "organized" sports much any more -creepy! I plan to concentrate this spring on an unorganized/disorganized/total disarrayed sport that is my own, personal golf game. Perhaps sponsored by "Odor Eaters" or "Febreeze"? Send me a coupon, at least. Thanks!

But, as always,, GO FIGHTING ILLINI!
