Its a poor move by MSU. It simply pulls back the curtain (even further) on the amateur notion.

What do the MSU athletes get in return from Rocket Mortgage?

I suppose the only caveat is that it appears Rocket State is sponsoring all the MSU sports, not just the revenue creating men's basketball and football players.

You know schools must be hurting for cash if they are willing to sell their entire team name to the highest bidder.

Given MSU’s recent scandals I’m surprised a public company like Rocket would associate with them.

I definitely see other teams doing this. NCAA should simply let the sponsors pay the players directly if that is the route we’re going. NCAA would quickly turn into Euro Club ball tho.

I'm surprised rocket Mortgage wants to put their name on a university that had staff doing bad things to gymnasts.
If this becomes a thing, I hope the players unionize and get their money.

Im fine with sponsors names on stadiums. but on the entire athletic dept or an entire program within the dept ? ridiculous

Ugh This will be a trend I'm sure. Kind of gross. How can the NCAA allow this and still pretend this is "amateur" sports and not pay these kids.

i really feel like this has a part to play. And Gilbert, being the ultimate MSU homer, doesn't really care if his company's name gets associated with it.

but just such a bad look on so many levels. Esp considering it sounds like it's just basketball program. huh? so the signs/logo messaging, etc. on the basketball program will be different than all the other sports? wtf? This is a marketing managers nightmare.

I'm really curious what the backlash will be, if any. I'm sure there will be plenty of MSU fans not happy about this. If it's bad enough, I doubt this will become a mainstream thing. This reeks of the AD/Izzo probably desperate to not have to take a pay cut to fund these lawsuits. the cesspool that is MSU sports continues strong.

Rocket Mortgages ads with the mascots and Gus Johnson have always struck me as cheesy and a bit tone deaf. I guess adding Izzo to that mix makes sense.
