Coleman is our best draft prospect.
Vaaks is too old, terrible defender and rebounder.
Mirkovic is too slow.
Stojakovic is a poor shooter and too old.
Coleman won't be in that Keaton range, because he's not an on-ball guy at the next level, and won't be the on-ball guy here. But his athleticism, shooting, rebounding, and defense gives him a high floor.
The guy he reminds me of is Braden Burries.

“NBA scouts are watching Coleman closely on the heels of an outstanding spring and summer, when he played for Team USA at the Under-18 FIBA AmeriCup and earned invites to CP3 camp and Nike Academy. Although the USA lost to Canada in the final and earned silver -- a disappointing result by program standards -- Coleman was a bright spot throughout and led the tournament averaging 11.4 rebounds over five games, a nearly unheard-of feat for a guard. He also averaged 11.2 points and shot 40% from the field.
Coleman's competitiveness, tenacity and all-around game stood out at Nike Academy, where he was among the top-performing college players in the group. He's unselfish and continues to flash his abilities as a decision-maker, offering room for offensive role growth to go with the array of other ways he regularly contributes to winning. Coleman is a smooth mover who covers ground very well on both ends and has good physical upside as he continues to gain strength and become more assertive. He shot 38.5% from three in the EYBL, giving him a good shooting base to build off long term.
A late-blooming combo guard who was previously committed to Wake Forest before flipping to Illinois in April, Coleman has trended steadily upward since last summer when his Brad Beal Elite team won Peach Jam, and he led his high school team to consecutive Missouri state championships. While it's unfair to expect a Keaton Wagler-like season, and there will be an adjustment period in college, Coleman's rebounding, motor and toughness are expected to help him carve out a big role at Illinois, alongside Providence transfer Stefan Vaaks as the Illini work to replace Wagler and Kylan Boswell in the backcourt.
Coleman's demonstrable intangibles and tools, coupled with multiple paths for successful offensive development, have started to separate him as an exciting prospect. Time is on his side, but a strong freshman year could fast-track him into a draft where NBA teams will have incentive to take developmental swings early and often.”
I actually feel like Coleman’s gotten overlooked a little bit, when we here project how the team will play out.

Burries was a lot thicker and stronger.
There is something to be said about grabbing guys just off the NBA radar, they stick around longer and congeal as a team. If Brad can keep this group around for another year, they could be legit NC favorites.

These early mocks and big boards are shooting in the dark. I took a look at Wasserman's preseason mock of the first round last year, and he only had about 1/3 of the players (10) in what was a really predictable draft (4 slam dunks). Then there were kids like Quaintnance, Ament, Cenac that everyone had. This year is wide open - these lists are meaningless. Even a kid like Stokes is variable given character concerns. He's as close as it comes to a slam dunk 1, but he's far from a guarantee. From there it becomes highly variable. Jordan Smith is 6'2" in shoes. Caleb Holt is a 6'5" guard that doesn't shoot all that well. On the court play will really determine the draft this year.
Taylor Kinney really unimpressed me in U18. I think Kansas fully busts this year, hard.
Yeah, I remember the 247 guys on their podcast talking about how he doesn't like the media reporting on his recruitment.
I actually think that's pretty understandable
He's a weird dude. Left one high school because of an issue. Hothead, rap on him is that if he's the "man", he's a lot of empty calories that doesn't lead to winning. If he's playing in more of a supporting role, he can be really effective as a good passer. Physically, he's a specimen. Lawrence is going to be fun to watch this year, as they went all-in with him, a year after the DP experience.
QC is at 8.
Dave is honestly like a broke man's Luka with better defense to me. He can probably play in NBA but his placement depends a lot on how he plays this year. I think he can be a 1st rounder if he scores reliably in the paint and shoots three better.

It probably risks being applied to way too many players, but I like "initiator wing" as a player type description a lot.
It captures how Vaaks is different than Wagler or KJ.
Really Malcolm Hill is probably the last Illini player who fully embodied that concept. People will say Domask with some justification, but he was a bit funkier than that.
Lucas Morillo is on there too.
We are going to lose Coleman, Vaask, Mirkovic, Morillo, both Ivisics and quite possibly Stojakovic next year? We are soooo doomed.
