I think he will do well in an offense with more motion. NBA is such a different game. I think there is more zone being played there than in college nowadays.

It was playing him alongside Ben who would miss like half the passes KJ threw his way.
Did you know Ben had the lowest turnover rate of any of the regular rotation players at 0.8 per 40 minutes? Next closest player (Tre White) averaged more than double at 1.7 per 40 minutes.
I never really had a problem with Ben on the offensive side. We lost some games because he couldn't defend his opponent.

Does it count as a turnover for Ben if KJ passes the ball and Ben misses the pass? That's what I noticed was happening a lot. It really bit us when Tomi was out because he's far better at expecting passes and knowing his spot.
If it was deemed catchable by the scorekeeper, then no. Otherwise, yes if KJ throws an errant pass (ie, not catchable by the receiving player) then KJ is charged with a turnover. Scorekeeper discretion.
In the NBA they just go by whoever touched the ball last.
Hey guys, let's turn the page on 2024/5 Ben H! New season, new team, more experience all around. Not everyone blossoms in year 1 after transferring, TSJ didn't, right???? Anyone thinking every errant pass KJ threw to BH was 100% on BH, well, I got nothing for you. I think the staff bears more responsibility than BH does for his effectiveness and I hope everyone will be better about it this next season. I truly hope no one at your workplace judges you naysayers in a similar way. We are talking a 1st year NCAA Player/new country/new culture (KJ)/1st year High Major player (BH), and new systems, all new teammates, etc... etc... Relax, we have a great, experienced roster, let's keep it positive and pump up our team!!!

I could average .8 TOs a game if all I did was catch, turn, and shoot when I touched the ball. Averaging low turnovers is pretty expected for a 4, especially one that spends 90% of his time beyond the three point line. Almost all of his touches were low risk.

I might risk getting kicked off here if I add any more Ben praise to this thread lol but anyway, here’s another nugget:
Ben was #1 in the B1G in lowest turnover average of players who started 16 or more regular season games (so he led an entire 18 team league in this statistic).
So yes- he is a catch & shoot guy, but not turning the ball over is actually a thing he is exceptionally good at

That is an original slam Ben post. They will probably start a new stat for passes missed now.
Let's not forget all the times KJ lost control of the ball dribbling to the basket because Ben made a funny face at him. Or the times Ben tossed a banana peel onto the court causing Boz to slip and miss his desperation heave layup as he comically slid, face first, right into the pie Ben was holding out for him at the baseline.
I'm not buying this at all - if anything our coaching staff bent over backwards to showcase KJ this year and put the ball in his hands, that clearly is his value at the next level, as a SG, he likely doesn't get drafted.
This is part of the narrative a lot of players/their people do every year, you get a perspective out there that they have more "potential" than they were able to show in college because their team was trying to win and didn't use them correctly - it doesn't make it true

I'm not surprised that KJ is not playing. The consensus is that he will not fall out of the lottery. Going by the disparity in the way Will is mocked, I am a bit surprised he is electing not to play. Perhaps his camp is hearing he is in a better spot than what many are projecting.

Interesting. He is ball dominant and brought the ball up for us. His strength is supposed to be PNR and that pretty much all we ran. Not coaching staffs fault he had so many turnovers and 3 point shooting dropped off after injury. Teams learned to get physical with him and trap him. KJ was not as strong as Marcus and had trouble breaking the double team.
JMO - he needs to get stronger, tighten his handles, play better defense, and learn to move better off the ball. Another year of college would help him do that but I doubt it will improve his position in NBA draft so I get why he is staying in draft.
He always gave 100% at Illinois and says wonderful things about Brad, program and fans. Never entered transfer portal. Wish him and Will nothing but success.

What concerns me with Will is that this is a “cover your ears and go ‘la la la la la… I can’t hear you’” decision. It’s as if he doesn’t want to risk hearing that he might not be league-ready.
