NBA Draft

Lucky for Will and KJ, there is a big difference between shooting well in college and projecting to shoot well in the NBA.
Well, there are several that actually did shoot it better and that projection has more merit. I'd say KJ is an ok shooter but that is not the foundation of why he is projected as a lottery pick. Will may end up making it buy I doubt it if he doesn't shoot it well at the combine. Like I mentioned most Illini have been rated higher in drafts by this board than where they were actually selected. I think that's great to be optimistic and hopeful. There are just a lot of talented players out there and only 14 lottery spots.

Will is gone. The kid is being drafted on potential. He will get a bag.

Some new mocks in addition to the ESPN one someone mentioned yesterday:

Vecine at the Athletic has KJ at #11 (Portland) and Will at #31 (MIN)

Kevin Sweeney (SI) has KJ at #7 (NOLA) and Will at #15 (OKC)

Kyle Boone (CBS) has KJ at #10 (TOR) and Will not in the first round (no second round in that one)

Wasserman has KJ at #11 (Portland) and Will at #25 (Orlando)

So views on Will are kind of all over the board still. Probably will get a lot more clarity after the combine is done.

Please no more Illini in Minn...TJ has gotten very little tick after providing valuable minutes.

I feel like if he could get that #15 pick to OKC that would be a very good situation for him. They don't have a ton of size on the wing so he brings something different, and he has no overlap with SGA (the way TSJ got screwed because he overlaps too much with Ant).

Oh I agree he is set financailly but I doubt he is a lottery pick but maybe he is. He could get a bag at either. How big and which would lead to the biggest bag long term and happiest experience is a different question he has to ponder. If he makes 2.5 million here and could in the league in 2026 draft vs what he will the in the 2025 draft and likely G League experience. Either way he will be fine I just hope he maximizes his $ and happiness playing basketball. Waiting may or may not have its financial and other benefits is all. Will has a huge variance in where he is being projected and so I hope people are being honest with him is all and make the best choice financially and personally. Maybe it is a given he will make more by leaving and make a roster next year but if it's not then that's a tough choice. Recent history shows most drop and don't rise quickly into the lottery. If he is going late first round or early second and could come back were the money would be close and if he made that 2nd year jump its likely he would be moving up boards and fattening that bag if he isn't in the lottery this year.

Jeff Goodman in a podcast has Will going to Portland and KJ not a lottery pick.

1. Take potshots at one of the scapegoats designated from on high.

2. Get responses defending the target of said potshots.

3. "It was a joke," "tongue-in-cheek," "why take everything so seriously."

4. Take umbrage at continued responses to the discussion you started.

5. Repeat.

I’m sorry Mrs. Underwood, I won’t take “potshots” or attempt any more schadenfreude posts with regards to Tyler.

It seemed like an easy joke about analytics and KJ’s potential here, but I didn’t realize how serious and important the matter clearly is to you and your family that clearly know way more about it than I do.

I genuinely wish for an abundance of continued success with Tyler and I will post nothing but genuine support and unconditional love for all of the decisions and methods he chooses to employ in our offensive game.

This includes BLOBS, SLOBS, minutes for players that are struggling, and generally everything he does all the time forever.

It is so heartwarming to see you and your family defend him with such vigor and knowledge.
It was just silly of me to even think about making an off handed comment.

I’m really sorry to have upset you all so much.

A belated Happy Mothers Day!

Viva Tyler Underwood!!!🧡💙

From a percentages and per minute standpoint, TSJ was superior to their 6th man Nickeal Alexander-Walker. Now maybe he’s not quite as good defensively, I don’t know (but he and NAW had an identical DRtg so maybe that’s not it either?)

Most of Shannon’s contributions came during a stretch where the Wolves had a ton of injuries. Minnesota had a good team and TSJ wasn’t a better option than what they had on the court.
Right, but I don't think that refutes the original point. TSJ was #10 in PT for Minnesota. Compare him to the #10 in PT for, say OKC. That was Jaylin Williams, who played 6 more minutes a game, and 15 more games overall. Going by total minutes TSJ had 339, while Williams had 784 - more than double. The Nuggets had 12 guys get more minutes than TSJ. Heck, the Bulls had 15 guys get more minutes than TSJ. All-in-all, it was not a great landing spot for TSJ to get immediate minutes. Even if he was always going to be something like #10 in the rotation, he ended up at a bad team to be that guy on.

Right...and his contributions showed he can provide a good spark when needed. Finch has been running Ant ragged....few more spot minutes would be nice!
