Idk whether Morez to Michigan is a mistake (well it's a mistake for me but the jury is still out for him). But I do think it is a right decision for him to leave Illinois. It's obvious Brad just wanted to play five out as much as he can after Kofi. Dain was a prime example. I am a bit frustrated by that, to be honest.

If we've learned anything from the NIL landscape, it's a taketh and giveth game. You can fill the gap from a loss of a contributing player fairly quickly with the right amount of money. I don't feel bad for Morez. He played the game and now has to prove his worth. He would have fit in nicely with this team. Now he'll be fighting for minutes and probably playing a position he didn't want here.
Was it really that Brad didn't want to play him? Or perhaps the fact that he had just one fewer foul than Tomi did in 327 fewer minutes. Rez averaged 5.7 fouls per 40 minutes.
Brad didn't keep Morez off the court, he kept himself off the court by getting into foul trouble. He never did learn that having your hands up doesn't help if you jump into the shooter's body.
You are right but that doesn't really matter for the next season. Personally, I think Brad would have gotten big Z no matter Morez stays or not and Morez knew that. I don't think it is necessary that Brad didn't and/or won't play Morez. It's just his love for playing 5 out will limit Morez's time/role naturally. I am kind of old school and I like a good ring protector such as Morez.
Not sure what being a rim protector has to do with running a 5-out offense. You can be an effective big for 5-out and also be a rim protector. That's actually what Big Z is. In addition to being able to shoot from the perimeter, Big Z is also a better rim protector than 6-9 Morez was (Rez blks per 40 = 2.5; Big Z blks per 40 = 4.1).
I also don't think it's true that Rez wouldn't have gotten minutes next year if he'd stayed. He would have. His minutes increased down the stretch last year (when he was able to stay out of foul trouble). I'm not sure his path to minutes is much easier at Michigan, where he'll have to compete with Yaxel and Aday Mara for playing time.

You are right that big Z is likely equal or better than Morez at both ends and likely we draw the better deal. Also, with Yaxel to Michigan, Morez's situation at Michigan is probably worse. This was why I said in the original post that the jury is still out on Morez for his transfer destiny. If I were him, I would have stepped down when transferring to ensure play time but hindsight is 20/20. I simply feel bad for these 4/5 stars who have to transfer often to optimize play time and NIL. If he chose to stay, he missed out the opportunities of more minutes and money. Also, would ILL be his best place for player development? I am not convinced. (Not saying Michigan is better; could be worse.) At P4 schools such as ILL and Michigan, it's the head coach's job to always over recruit through the portal so that's just the reality but I wish Morez could have stayed and developed in ILL. That's why Ayo will always have a special place in my heart.

It won’t be in PT their frontcourt is load and versatile. I actually think it’s going to be pretty hard for him to have a well carved out role.
Especially if he wants to be a 3 pt threat. Too many mouths to feed. Though I do think his floor is as good as anyone not named yaxel.

We will see. I think it's hard for Ty to get more than 15 min per. Morez could have gotten 15 min per if he chose to stay but that's not what him wanted and then he chose Michigan, which seems likely worse.
I think what he wanted was for the coach to have enough confidence in his shot to allow him to shoot from further than 5' from the rim, like he did in high school. Maybe it will happen for him. I hope that he gets to shoot and is good.

It's a great question. Ty does a lot of things well, brings toughness and a lot more versatility. In this era, NIL matters. I don't have any idea what each needed to stay with the program, but if you get 90% of someone who wants twice the NIL, that's relevant.
