8-12 can be done, has been done before, but I'd push back for sure on "pretty easily"... would be multiple years of dedicated training

He added 3-4 inches per the multiple articles I quickly found. Is there another source citing 11 inches?

wagler with 10 additional inches on his vertical is cheat code. I just have a hard time believing that he could add more than 5-6 inches on his vertical.... anyone in general. would love to hear more about how you got to that 8-12 inch improvement on vertical stat? I'd be curious to see if they have this info as a follow up from the draft
Depends on if you count 1 foot or 2...

“Early stages” is the key qualifier.

https://www.si.com/college/2021/02/18/ayo-dosunmu-illinois-basketball-march-madness

But when Ayo arrived fresh off a USA Basketball stint in the summer of 2018, he was “overtrained,” according to Fletcher, and broken down. He had weak ankles, weighed just 170 pounds and couldn’t bench press 185 pounds once.

Today he’s 208 pounds and can bench 185 (the standard NBA combine testing weight) 18 times. His vertical leap has improved 11 inches. Along with everything else, he committed to the weight room—not just the weights themselves but the bonding that can happen there.

11 inches is amazing

So given the dates provided here, this happened over a 3 year period from age 18 to age 21

Not "pretty easy"

Most guys are going to be able to get a 3-6 inch increase even with prolonged dedicated training... 11 inches is not something you can just expect to happen

Yeah..I didn't say "expect to happen" I also didn't give a time frame.

I said you can add 8-12" pretty easily from the early stages. That's easily verified and corroborated with basic research. A beginner in early stages can get up to 12 in ONE YEAR.

Years ago I personally watched a kid working with my same personal trainer starting at age 17 go from 22 to 37 in 2 years. He also told me of a 38 year old he trained increased 10 inches in a little over a year.

I didn't say you said that.

Was pushing back on this:

I don't think "pretty easily" is correct here. It's pretty difficult to do even with prolonged, focused/dedicated training.

"Can get" and "pretty easily [get]" are two very different things... especially if we're talking about "one year" timeframe that you just noted here.

Anecdotal & 2nd/3rd-hand experiences here. It's not "easy" at all, 8-12 inches is a very ambitious (but achievable, no one is arguing that) goal.

Ok...maybe we are crossing wires here. By pretty easily I meant the amount you can add...not the training process.
I'm not saying the process is easy....I'm saying that you can easily add that amount with the proper training.

My reference to the kid I literally watched with my trainer is a first hand account. I witnessed this. Including several tests at the facility and documented progress on a training board.

There are tons of accounts that can point you to these kinds of improvements within even one year from an early stage of training.

Yep we might've just been talking past one another on certain parts of this. There are a lot of guys that add 8-12 but its very difficult to do, and like you also had said, there's genetics and other factors (will he have to deal with an injury or something that prevents this type of dedicated/focused training, etc etc).

If he *does* add significant amount of bounce, it shoots him up several notches as a player, because its something that positively affects nearly every facet of the game of basketball. Four years or so from now we could see Keaton as a top 10 player in the NBA with his size, length (6-11 wingspan), skill and shooting ability.

Exactly. There's nothing easy about what Ayo did. He is a training/practice freak. So his 11 inch improvement from skinny freshman was the template I was using as something Keaton could do in 2-3 years with that kind of determination. Of course genetics dependent.

I think I like last year's top 5 over this year's.
I knew there was a reason I ignored you.

This might be one of the worst takes I've ever seen on this board.

This is one of the most stacked draft classes of all time according to anyone who knows anything about the sport.
