Hunter Dickinson was never a 1st round draft pick. At best he'd have gone mid-2nd round and at worst he'd have ended up like Kofi. In his particular situation, staying was the right move. He made a bunch of money at Kansas and got a 2-way deal, which is what he would have gotten if he'd been drafted in the mid to late 2nd round anyway.
Yup. Kofi gave up millions be leaving before NIL kicked in

He had two years left. Easily would have gotten $1M and then likely $2M the next year.
But there's not guarantee it would have been in an Illinois uniform. In fact, it's likely it wouldn't given that the biggest paydays seem to come when players jump schools.

And for those who are adamant that Kofi would have been loyal, remember that he entered the portal while he was in the draft. You really think he wasn't entertaining offers on the side before deciding to come back to Champaign?

very well could look back at this draft in a few years and Will is the steal of the draft. His game should translate especially as he puts on mass.

This is true, but it’s also true that we probably had enough money to keep him if we wanted.

Don’t know anything about salary situation of either, but strictly from a basketball perspective seems like a decent trade for Bulls. They need to get better defensively and have a glut of guards. Good landing spot for Ball too.

That's part of the problem though. The Bulls need two-way players. Coby and Giddey are liabilities on the defensive end. While Okoro can help on the defensive end, he adds absolutely nothing to the Bulls offensively. For his career, Okoro's Value Over Replacement Player is...

All teams need two-way players. Not many teams trading them away for nothing. Not sure what you think they were going to get for Ball. Too many question marks surrounding him. And we’re talking about a guy who had a value over replacement player of 0.4 this past year. Hey look, that’s the same as Okoro. Okoro’s career zero in that area is because he was something like -1.7 his first year. Since then he’s been at or above zero. Not great I know, but living in Ohio I watch a fair amount of Cavs ball, and he’s a useful player.

I agree Josh and Coby are limited on D, but AK seems inclined to go with them. Getting more guys who can play D is one way to hide defensive inefficiencies of those two. If Ball was same player he was when he first put on Bulls uni, it would have been a different story. Think those days are behind him, and probably time to move on.
