Good mercy - Wichita??

I know there would be a lot of people saying something similar about Des Moines, but at least my current metro hometown area has a 20-year-old 15,500 seat arena that's hosted three first weekend events (and will host a fourth in 2028), is pretty much right in the middle of the country at the crossroads of two massive interstates, and has pretty good air travel connections for a metro area on the smaller side of mid.

I've been to Wichita before. It takes forever to get there from anywhere.

My husband and I spent a few days in Des Moines this summer, basically because he wanted Jethro's and we wanted to hit some local breweries (Confluence was our fave). It was dope, if very quiet. Would absolutely go again for a few days

Des Moines is actually great for the first weekend. This community treats it as a really big deal, while it’s another event in a big city. It does help when a local team like Kansas or Iowa State is playing, but even if they aren’t it’s still a great time.

If you come back, definitely try Big Grove Brewery on Grand if you didn’t try it. Fantastic beer.

We did, and we ate there! Everything was really good and the views were great from their patio.

Iowa Tap, El Bait Shop, and Twisted Vine, too. Definitely worth a repeat trip, with or without the tournament
