I think he's the best coach in the field. Doesn't have the best team but they can play.St John's largest loss this season was by 3 points. That is just crazy, IMO. Pitino is THE man in New York.

It’s pretty simple. Look at Q1 wins. They won 4 of them. Just 1 Q1A win.
We’re a 6 seed, we have 8 Q1 wins (2x as many) and 4 Q1A wins (4x as many).
Marquette, a 7 seed, has 6 Q1 wins and 2 Q1A wins.
The AP poll is not factored into seeding. Think about how good our record would have been and where we would have been ranked in the AP poll had we played 8 less Q1 games this season. Lousville played 7 Q3 games. We played 0. Based on resume, Louisville is seeded right around where they should be.
Since Q1 wins were used so heavily in their seeding, the fact that UNC got in over West Virginia is an absolute travesty. Same with Xavier.
The only way this would really work is if you select the 68 teams and get them in a theoretical 1-68 bracket, THEN start adjusting based on conference matchups, etc. I honestly don't know if you can reasonably do that. If you could, that would be ideal. This is why the committee should never see team's names, just data.

I’d like to see the 68 teams in a theoretical 1-68 bracket; and start adjusting after administering a Spelling contest and a grade school Science project. That way the Bigten and the Ivy League gets favorable seeds…and the SEC gets what they deserve. The only way this would really work is if you select the 68 teams and get them in a theoretical 1-68 bracket, THEN start adjusting based on conference matchups, etc. I honestly don't know if you can reasonably do that. He's not wrong. I get that the conference enjoys the big TV ratings it gets for the BTT final, but for all intents and purposes it's a glorified exhibition game. It does absolutely nothing for the teams in it unless it has a "bid-stealer" impact like what would have happened if Illinois defeated Michigan State in 1999.![]()
Even Greg Gard knows Wisconsin's schedule for the NCAA Tournament is a joke
There's no doubt about it; the Wisconsin Badgers were screwed simply for doing well in the Big Ten Tournament. They were able to advance all the way to the Bigbadgerofhonor.com
It may be about ratings. Also, available time slots. The ACC and Big East have been Saturday night, longer than the B1G and SEC have even had tourneys, if memory serves correctly. He's not wrong. The ACC and Big 12 have decided to have their conference tournament finals mean something, so they moved their finals to Saturday night. The SEC and Big Ten have decided ratings are more important. Each conference has its own priorities.
Well how could it with the committee chair outside the room so much.../sIndeed, I don't think this committee did a stellar job.
DO away with auto bids from conference playoff champs. Go with the BEST 68 teams determined by polls. You have small conference champs who get the auto bid, denying the best teams. Indiana/WVU are better than the last of the 68.I’d like to see the 68 teams in a theoretical 1-68 bracket; and start adjusting after administering a Spelling contest and a grade school Science project. FWIW, I have Duke losing to Baylor.Breaking news! Dickie V has released his bracket and in a shocking turn of events has predicted Duke will win! Who saw that coming?

In defense of Dickie V (which I do not say often), Duke is the most common national champion in ESPN's Tournament Challenge right now.Breaking news! Dickie V has released his bracket and in a shocking turn of events has predicted Duke will win! Who saw that coming?

Duke could get in like Carolina did this year and he still would pick them!In defense of Dickie V (which I do not say often), Duke is the most common national champion in ESPN's Tournament Challenge right now.
My impression is the fan base expects Illinois will play to seed, which is to say a loss to Texas/Xavier is unacceptable; a loss to Kentucky is expected; and a Sweet 16 and beyond is exceptional.Someone should start a poll for how far Illinois will go in the tournament. Kinda curious where expectations are. I see a lot of posters say we can play with anyone if "good" Illinois shows up (agree 100%), but will good Illinois show up for multiple games?

You have them making it that far???FWIW, I have Duke losing to Baylor.![]()
I'm super curious what Whitman would think of Underwood if Illinois were to lose in the first round. Would Underwood's seat still be cool as a cucumber? Or will it be mildly warm? Inquiring minds (me) want to know! The fanbase this season seems as divided as ever on Brad... say his approval rating is currently 50%... you know what, I'll give him another 5-10% because I think the fans that disapprove are just a fair bit louder than those that approve, so lets say 60%
I could easily see a 20% swing there based on just this one, single first round game
Overall, currently I'm happy with him and think this season has been, I'll call it 'acceptable', given the circumstances... I'd like to see Hamer replaced, that's the biggest thing for me right now... No issue with Tyler if he's the guy on offense (our offense was so good last year, and been pretty good this year outside of the insistence on shooting a lot of 3s even though we are terrible at making them)
A win on Friday night and I'll probably be ok with whatever happens from that point on, but if we lose that game, idk... then next season becomes: I need to see something more than a 7th place conf finish and 1st round NCAA exit while also getting hammered by 20, 30, 40 points in a handful of games to boot
And we see where those conferences are in the conference arms race. Seems like they may be on to something! Not suggesting that this is the reason, but just that they know what they're doing. He's not wrong. I get it, but I guess in the post-season I'd prefer that if there is a game to play, that it means something. Given how the bracket shook out, I'm actually kind of glad Illinois didn't make it to the weekend. They got a very good draw where they can make noise if they play well while getting some practice and recovery time. I don't feel like I should be happy or content with seeing my favorite team losing a game unless they have already clinched a conference title, but in hindsight I think the additional practice and recovery time may very well benefit Illinois rather than playing two additional games would have been. And we see where those conferences are in the conference arms race.
