It’s imperative we play good hoops over the next 6 weeks…Said it in the other thread, but I really think we can win 7 of our next 8 and gain some serious momentum before heading to Mackey for a huge signature-win opportunity

All talk … No action … From Brad …

Brad said he’s gonna let Crocker run the show … We’ve seen that at times … At other times, it’s clear to me at least that he’s being over ruled …

Other times … I don’t agree with Crocker … Bam used to be all world defensively and for a couple weeks, he’s looked below average … Are we not putting him in the right spots ??? I’d argue that’s the case sometimes … Bam should’ve been on Lawrence at the end of the game tonight … If our guys can’t guard Hoiberg’s boy then they should go play for Eastern Illinois … They’re not good enough to play here …

But hey - that’s my opinion …
Way too much what I’d call passive switching. I think we could have the advantage on the perimeter with Bam, Keaton, Stoj… just not sure we’re “unleashing” our best guys (on defense).

Most respect you so that is a big statement? If he can’t start winning games like this at home, it just seems “d@mned if we do and d@mned if we don’t”. Problem I have is we play this team again, and nothing I saw tonight says we will beat them in Lincoln?

It is a very touch place for us to be I think?

Do you remember watching the game? Nebraska was up 11 at half and it took an absurd Terrence Shannon performance to come back and win that game(he put up 40 on 5-9 from 3).

That Nebraska team was ok but it should have never been up 11 on that Illini team.

Another Terrence Shannon isn't going to walk through the door again so Brad better figure out how to win without him.

Does Brad's Elite 8 run = Ron Turner's post-Sugar Bowl hubris? "Doesn't matter who we recruit, we'll just coach'em up."
I don't know about that. But I have wondered if our defensive woes are at least partly due to prioritizing skilled offensive guys who aren't known for defense and then thinking we can just coach them up for 8 weeks over the summer and turn them into elite defenders. We need to recruit guys who take pride in that end of the court.

We actually played a solid offensive game tonight but with how we play defense, our offense needs to be almost perfect to beat decent teams. IMO, it's a recipe for volatility.

What’s the softest fast food parking lot?

Wherever this team eats …

Getting to the point where I feel we may never get to witness this greatness again …

When people come into our house, I want them to be afraid that it’s gonna be a brawl … And with this team and last years team too, I don’t feel it … We ain’t got no toughness … No Dawgs … No EDGs …

I’d like to know the reason why the athletic American player isn’t recruited at the U of I anymore?
Appears it European or bust.

Nobody’s punishing anybody … Facts are this … 1 second weekend since 2017 …

That’s unacceptable at elite level programs … And hey if we wanna be a good program, maybe 1 second weekend since 2017 is acceptable …

Maybe losing to Nebraska at home is acceptable for good teams …

I don’t wanna be f’ing good … I want to be ELITE … And both of those things are UNACCEPTABLE in ELITE programs …

I don't want to lose at home to Nebraska. The overall general point i agree with - and mostly everything you say and share. The fairly predictable slow starts in some of these games kill me.

I just think when we say 1 second weekend in 9 years coaching, we clearly are punishing him for 2 tournaments that quite literally have not happened. And i think we can make our points and frustrations clear as a fanbase without doing that. That's all.

I've said a version of this many times.

Thinking back to when Self left like a thief in the night, there was a repeated refrain of him being a "great recruiter and poor bench coach". That was a lot of sour grapes, but, ironically I think this is what Brad actually is. I thought at the end of last year he needed to turnover a couple spots on the staff to get some stronger X's and O's help. Didn't happen.

Poor Xs and Os coach who has had one of the top offenses three years running and I think is one game behind Purdue in most B1G wins the last several years. Adds up.

He’s 10-4 against Hoiberg - that’s not routine.

Illinois has never lost a game in the underwood era where the same reason every single time from fans is “out coached”. When they win, it’s never coaching, when they lose it’s always coaching.
Bingo. It's the same fans, who have nothing else to bring to the table from a technical game standpoint, that fall back on lazy comments. There is a reason why Mirkovic's a$$ was on the bench and deservedly so. Tomi should have been right with him. Playing solid team defense for 30 seconds, just the have one player get broken down is not on the coach.

If I was to criticize Brad of anything, it's his obsession with the Euro/international game. It works if you have NBA caliber shooters, but if you don't, you're stuck with a roster that lacks explosiveness and athleticism, which is why we're having the issues on both ends.

Nebraska played today how Brad wants us to play. He wants all five guys being able to shoot the perimeter jumper. Right now, Nebraska is on a hot streak. We did the same year when we went on the road and blitzed Oregon and Indiana because we were unconscious from three. It's unsustainable, but in the NIL arena....it's inexpensive.

Well I’m sure he is a good dude and knows ball. But we haven’t seen his impact really at all

That’s right … Which is exactly why I wrote the response I did above … 🙂

Tough to pin this all on Crocker … So far this year, defense hasn’t been good …

However - The guy knows ball … Hamer doesn’t know ball … That’s an upgrade …

But you're forgetting the fact that from 10,000 B.C through 2050 Illinois has only made 1 second weekend with Brad Underwood at the helm. That's a success rate of just 0.0083%!!!

It's one thing to lose on an off night of shooting.

This is complete horsh#t. You just got out worked, out hustled, out schemed, outplayed, and out toughed......by Nebraska basketball.

In your own f@cking house.

Absolutely nothing special about this team right now short of a freshman phenom.

Better get their act together fast. The B1G doesn't gaf about your EDG mantra. Actions > words.

Team needs to work on intensity, chemistry, maturity and whatever “ity” is appropriate.

Hey, I'm no insider. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes. What I do know is that the entire last season one insider turned this whole board against one assistant coach and convinced everyone he was to blame for all our woes. Then praised the guy who was going to take over the defense from him. Now says that second guy is no better than the first. These are just observations I find interesting.

I honestly think the best 5 man lineup Illinois can put out right now would be Petrovic, Boswell, Wagler, Stojakovic, and Zvonimir with Stojakovic playing as an Alex Karaban type 4.

You wouldn't necessarily be able to matchup with every team like that(Michigan) but it would be the best offensive lineup in the country and would probably get a good look on every possession.

This is why the last 2 years I've wanted to move on from Brad- our program is a sleeping giant- these are the games we lose that continuously keep us from getting the seeds in the tourney that you can make a serious run. I remember a time when it was scary for opposing teams to come to Assembly hall. It's not surprising to see our team struggle defensively- a bunch of skilled big dudes that play soft and are extremely slow. Tomi has been an utter non factor the last two games- his effort has been pathetic- You're paid a lot of $- literally paid to play hard and show up.

Our program can't accept this year after year.
