Hoo boy, getting to watch under .500 teams play in the postseason. Where do I sign up? I get this is an attempt at a money grab, but I can't imagine a whole lot of people paying to watch this.
This is the first baby step to start a new tourney and bypass/leave the NCAA eventually.Hoo boy, getting to watch under .500 teams play in the postseason. Where do I sign up? I get this is an attempt at a money grab, but I can't imagine a whole lot of people paying to watch this.
The most hilarious thing about this though is that only 15 teams didn't make the tournament last year from those 3 conferences, so they wouldn't even be able to field the necessary 16 teams in some years.
not interesting at all. they need to look at the coverage and attendance of the NIT to know this.

why in the world would I want to watch a tournament with teams that weren't even good enough to make the tournament instead of the Final 4?Fox Proposes New Vegas-Based College Hoops Tournament
The field for late March would include the top 16 teams from the Big East, Big Ten and Big 12 that didn't make the NCAA tournamentthemessenger.com
"Discussions are ongoing, but the current vision is for the event to include 16 teams that would play at T-Mobile Arena during the final week of March following the NCAA tournament’s Elite Eight games. If the tournament happens, Fox plans to encourage its corporate partners to set up Name, Image and Likeness deals for players who are competing; the network will not be able to pay players directly due to NCAA rules.
Under terms of the proposed arrangement, the top 16 teams in the Big 12, Big East and Big Ten that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament — as ranked by the NET — would be required to play in the Fox event even if they are invited to the NIT. Those three leagues have rights deals with Fox. The network also has a rights agreement with the Pac-12, but it is unclear whether that league would be added due to complications arising from the Pac-12’s impending realignment defections."
According to the linked article, invitations to this tournament would be mandatory and supersede NIT invitations. And not good enough to be invited to the NIT either.
yep -- garbage.why in the world would I want to watch a tournament with teams that weren't even good enough to make the tournament instead of the Final 4?
Yep and probably would end the NIT as we know it today.According to the linked article, invitations to this tournament would be mandatory and supersede NIT invitations.
This keeps getting better and better. What a great palate cleanser to the ncaa tourney to not only showcase must see tv matchups like 10-23 Depaul vs. 9-22 Minnesota, but also having these teams coming off a 3 week hiatus from their last played game with limited practices in between.Fox Proposes New Vegas-Based College Hoops Tournament

But that's not all, folks. Because guess what? The transfer portal is also open during this time period! So many of the more talented players on these teams will have already left for locations where the grass is greener.
Nothing says quality basketball like 10win teams fielding half their roster after a 3 week layoff played in a near-empty gym. Brilliant concept.
Seems like getting sponsorship and advertising revenue at a most conspicuous time in the overall sports byline would be somewhat difficult to achieve , but as you professed , there are enough peeps that would see a happenstance for monetary advancement......When you absolutely must milk every last penny out of college sports. Even as a sicko that spends their time on a college sports message board, there is absolutely no shot I'd watch this. But hey, I'm sure plenty of degenerates won't be able to help themselves from betting on these hideous games. I feel for the college athletes who would be expected to play in this money-grab.
Oh! I love Last Chance Kitchen!More interesting would be 16 teams from those conferences that were knocked out of the NCAA Tourney.
