NFL Draft

#26
Those other things are important, but teams are still stupid about shiny 40 times.

100% obviously his first 10 yards are the most important and how he changes direction. But if he runs a 4.8 he will drop. If he runs. 4.6 he might be a first round pick.

The value Gabe has is he’s so strong against the run. He can also move inside on passing downs and be a force. He plays with great leverage and has very strong hands.

I get the importance of a 40 yard dash time for receivers, running backs, DBs, and outside linebackers. Never understood the importance for any other position. For a DL, the three cone time and something like a flying 10 yard time would seem to be more important. Top speed isn’t as important as acceleration and lateral quickness.

They just dont televise it all there's not enough time and a lot of prospects.
i saw group photos but couldn't pick him out. i wonder if the NFL has a combine site where you can see a particular players workout?
i found this on the nfl combine results for QB's. #12 QB.

12. Luke Altmyer, Illinois (6-2, 210 pounds)

Grade: C

Altmyer looked OK through everything he did, from being the first to run the 40 to opening up the passing drills. He just didn’t flash in any one area and was overshadowed by Green’s athleticism and Daniels’ throwing. Their performances, along with what Allar showed, pushed Altmyer into later Day 3 consideration.

Eh I wasn't expecting him to pop out that much, not his game. Works hard, understands the game, and is consistent. Comes prepared

I suspect if he gets a chance he will make some GM look really smart.

IMO anywhere from 4-6 but I wouldn't ve surprised with 3. He's one of the best QB in this draft. Arguably the most well rounded/ready, and he is the most clutch QB in the draft. Also maybe the most accurate QB. That's where his money will be.

He has good arm strength (Better than people seem to believe since he throws with some of the best touch in the draft), but the accuracy and ball placement is among some of the better QB's coming out in recent drafts, not just this one. Depending on the situation, he can become a starter, and for a long time.

Not something anyone will talk about but I thought we would see a significant drop off after he lost Pat Bryant to the NFL.

He was even BETTER.

Allar is terrible that’s why GM’s get fired

No way I'm taking Allar over Altmyer. Million dollar arm, 10 cent head.

Anybody got any intel on Hank Beatty's draft chances? Have read some draft reports saying he could go in the 6th/7th round. In some cases, a guy like Hank might be better off signing as a free agent with a team where he thinks he might have a better shot at sticking as a punt returner/slot receiver. I know Hank has a good Plan B if pro football doesn't work out, but I hope he gets a chance to try and make a roster so he doesn't have to wonder what might have happened if he had gotten a chance (if that word salad makes any sense).

Unfortunately, it seems like Luke didn't have a great combine based on the evaluation report. Currently projected as a bottom of the roster/practice squad player. I still think whatever team gives him a chance is going to love what they get and that Luke will be in the league a long time. Shame he wasn't able to perform a bit better to be able to raise his stock- he really does deserve it. Looking like he's projected as a late Day 3 pick. Maybe 7th round?

Seems likely they’re smart enough to look at the totality of data available on his likely NFL performance, including what he accomplished in Champaign. Why would one consider only the combine?

He should be drafted. He's trending up and is just an excellent slot WR. Also, a team is going to love him on PR a la Isaiah Williams. He should run in the 4.45-4.55 range to solidify it at Pro Day but his agility and hands are elite tier. Illini could have 2 of the top PR in the game soon.
