If we as Illini fans are hoping that star recruits/transfers are looking to come to play at Illinois as a place that will help them get to the NFL, it is important that these guys at least mention they are from the University of Illinois (with their high school if they want). I would hope that they were proud of being Illini and would want to give their school some credit. I’m guessing Coach Bielema is disappointed from that respect as well…
That’s right. Simple to understand for most but clearly not all.

Williams returns punts for Bengals? Wasn't he on the lions?

Ig Bengals didn't bat an eye to all those muffs last year... good thing he doesn't have any this year. Good thing he found a solid roster spot and job.

Having 9/11 players (or was it 20/22? I didn't watch the intros) do something one way, and 2/11 do it another.... Most EVERYONE watching will notice. Pretty silly to argue otherwise. Perhaps if you are one of those people who believe 2/11 is meaningless and NO ONE notices or cares, you probably spend 0 time engaging in social media where people LOVE to pick apart any minor discrepancy in anything posted/seen.

Players naming some place other than the school than they went to has been a thing on the Sunday Night Football player intros for years (and honestly goes back to when Tirico was on Monday night football too). People on here making a big deal out of it are the equivalent of old man yelling at cloud.

I can remember the days of Simeon Rice, esteemed graduate of the "School of Hard Knocks".

I thought I read once that players record all these intros at the beginning of the season media days. They may have recorded for one network "University of Illinois" & for another network their high school. While I would have loved to hear them both recognize Illinois last night, I don't think it's that big of a deal, and probably just a coincidence they both recognized their high schools with this network/recording.

I don't see anyone doing this. Saying you wished they mentioned Illinois for the pub is a reasonable take imo.

If you really think any star recruit or transfer is going to care about what school an NFL player mentions during their Sunday Night Football intro, you're more deluded than I thought. Bielema probably doesn't know much less care whether the players mention it.

Heck, by your logic my alma mater EIU should have gotten more highly rated recruits for all the times I got to hear "Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois University".
Yeah, that's not what he's saying at all. I find your reasoning laughable.

You don't think people saying that Bielema is pissed about not mentioning the school is not people making a big deal out of it?
“I’m guessing Coach Bielema is disappointed from that respect as well…” No one said Bielema is pissed that I saw. Big difference between disappointed and pissed imho. Not a big deal, just disappointing.

Yeah, you're probably right about the timing of the recordings. There probably are multiple recordings. I'd rather be disappointed not to hear Illinois recognized because of the network and not the player. But honestly, I was not disappointed in anyone or anything. As an avid fan, I was just disappointed not to hear Illinois when I thought I had a chance to hear it recognized at the highest level. 🤷‍♂️

I just posted the same question in another thread. It's disappointing.
I was living in Oglesby Hall during the Bucs-Raiders Super Bowl. During the SB player intros, Simeon Rice said he was from the School of Hard Knocks (instead of the beloved) and the amount of collective groans and cussing heard throughout the hallway was unreal.

That stuff does bother me…maybe it shouldn’t. I’m big on building the Illinois brand and showing respect for who helped you get there.

Kerby Joseph has 16-career INTs. NFL leading 8-INTs this season.
