IW tied for fifth
If that’s your only professional option as a football player and it’s how you continue your dream, then yeah, that money better than nothing, but that wasn’t the case for either of them. In particular, IW would have probably made the same or more by playing here for another year, working on his ball security issues, improving his hands, and simply having another year of experience at a relatively new position. A 6th round pick in 2024 can expect a four-year contract worth about $4M. I hope both of these guys can make a roster and parlay their performance into a bigger contract, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that their draft projection compared to actual draft status and compensation was a major letdown. How many of us had Casey getting drafted and not IW? Nightmare is probably hyperbole, you are right, but I’d lose sleep looking at those numbers! They're getting good money and hopefully stepping on the field this fall. Hardly a nightmare.
None of us predicted that but I'm not surprised. Casey's number blew up in the last few games as he had Paddock throwing to him. I think he'll show out well in the NFL.How many of us had Casey getting drafted and not IW?
I agree. I think Casey’s major flaw is getting separation, but he has phenomenal hands and I believe he just needed more targets to show his value. He tested well at the Pro Day too.None of us predicted that but I'm not surprised. Casey's number blew up in the last few games as he had Paddock throwing to him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel pretty strongly that Isaiah could've easily netted more than $240,000 had he come back to Illinois this year?
I suspect he could have earned considerably more on an NIL deal if he stayed another year. Oh well, wish him luck.
This may be one of the most condescending posts I’ve seen in awhile. Yeah, athletes just can’t figure out how this NIL works. This was a blunder for Williams. He ran what, a 4.6 at the combine to be the slowest wide receiver. He is small, can't block and won't return punts as he fumbles.
It is unlikely he will make the team, easy to cut a player that you didn't spend a draft pick on. He could have done the same thing next year but pocketed way more in NIL money.
It will take a few more examples like this ( and Kofi ) before athletes really get how NIL works, how to maximize your college earnings, when to try the pros and who to listen to.
Hey maybe I'm wrong and all is good for him, hope so.
You don't get it.Perhaps I might have worded it as " make the NIL system work to maximize the potential income for a marginal pro prospect ."
Regardless, we seem to be in agreement. He left huge money on the table.
Cool emoji though.
Same fracture, other foot.
I thought there was a pretty good chance it was going to happen anyway, especially after they traded Joe Mixon to Houston. His only real competition for starting time is going to be Zack Moss.
