Players who really choose NW for academics ? half the B1G is just as good in many disciplines and better in most STEM majors
Why leave at all then? You still have a full ride and likely scant pro prospects if you truly put academics first on the priority list when picking a college. Enjoy your free four years and your degree, it's not like you would have celebrated a lot of wins anyway.

Edit to say I am speaking of new commits here, of course anyone already on campus and subjected to any of this should remove themselves if they deem that best.

I may be wrong, and things may have changed in recent years, but I am under the impression that football scholarships are on a year-to-year basis. So once in the program, I don't think a 4 year full ride is guaranteed at all.

Fitz’ lawsuit will get him a big pay day. Agreed punishment, no new info, then he gets fired. Breach of contract and damaged reputation. $$$$$$

a lot of new allegation came out post-punishment (including, i believe, the locker-room whiteboard thing which, if true, could be pretty damning for his case). Agree that none were part of the formal investigation/vetted, but i'm guessing they will be fully vetted now.

1) Breach of contract - Yes, there will be fight over the buyout in the contract (not sure the value). The walking back on agreed punishment does not impact anything on this underlying fact, only the information that led to firing matters.
2) No new info? A lot of new info came out since the initial suspension, which may bolster the evidence of "firing with cause" that NU may not have had before. This will ultimately determine the eventual settlement/court outcome.
3) Damaged reputation - Fitz will get $0 on this, unless the NU newspaper and other news agencies completely made up weekend stories. Fitz ruined his own reputation by either being blind to what was happening in his program or knowing of what was happening. Either way, that is on him alone. No payday here.

I very highly doubt that Fitz will get a large pay day. He will get something in a settlement (no way this thing goes to court), but it will likely be less than the buyout in his contract (the extent will depend on strength of evidence NU has). Both Northwestern and Fitz look terrible here, so no way they want to go to court.

Believe it's currently quiet period - which means a college coach cannot visit a player or watch them play (for football) right now. They can still communicate with each other.

Only in the legal system can there be any seriousness about a lot of free money reversing a soiled reputation. I don't think anyone on this message board will change their minds about Fitz if he gets a few million. The cat is out of the bag and the horse has left he barn.
