This is something I don't think groce gets enough credit for. He chose to do things the right way instead of taking the easy way out to save his job. Won't say any names but if he had run off a player or two in order to bring in some higher potential guys the last couple years or if he had swept nunn's incident under the rug there is a strong chance he is still our coach with a nice extension to boot. Thank you john groce and I hope you find success wherever you land.

Uhhhhh.... I guess we're just forgetting about all the guys that did transfer out during Groce's tenure (Shaw, Langford, Henry, Colbert, Cosby). And the number of recruits we consistently went after despite not having scholarships at the ready (Remember the whole "We can count" thing?).

We are not holier than thou.

You just said in your previous post that northwestern was taking things to another level to get that kid off scholarship. Not all transfers are kids being forced out and there is a huge difference between having honest talks with kids trying to "encurrage" them to look at their options and completely forcing them out. Next I suppose you will say that our disapline issues were no different than baylor football huh?

What are you talking about? Sure it looks like Illinois didn't go as far as doctoring time stamps but encouraging people to transfer is "pushing them out."

Chris, are you guys really forging time cards to open up scholarships? Do you really think that is a good idea? Would Coach K be ok with this from a potential succesor?

There is a difference between working in the grey areas and crossing the line in college sports.

Yeah, and "at the time it was the flagship program in his home state." Surprised no one has brought this up yet.

The "at the time" may be referring to the fact that he moved states a few times, not that Illinois is no longer the flagship program.

Not a well-written sentence though.

I have to admit I wouldn't be upset if this caused Northwestern to lose their official NCAA tournament bid and then gets sanctions causing Collins to leave and Northwestern to go right back to their rightful place of irrelevance.

People can say anything they want about Illini basketball and our lack of success, but the fact that we stand by our players and don't practice sordid tactics like this, speaks volumes about the integrity of the program. Thumb!
