I love 11:00 am kicks. However, I also think there is a time and a place for a hugely hyped night game. As an example, it would be a travesty for PSU's Whiteout Game to be at 11:00 am CST, IMO, as it is just cooler at night ... I kind of feel the same for an "Orange Out" game vs. OSU this year.

Someone said something about College Gameday coming for OSU. I think Indiana Oregon could take it that week, but if not Red River would have to be the move provided the loss of the QB at OU can be weathered.

We moved up ONLY 1 spot because no one else immediately ahead of us lost this week. Predictably, we surpassed the one team that did --- USC.

That isn't an absolute deal breaker, as there were obviously plenty of Illini fans in Grange Grove before that! However, I do think it is something they might consider.

Let's just hope that Michigan craps the bed at home vs. Wisconsin this week and we can get the pregame show again! Honestly, if we are going to be playing at 11:00 am anyway, I at least want all that publicity!!

Exactly, build up to the big matchups. I’m all good with my little Iowa @ Wisconsin noon game to kick off the Saturday.

Feels like we’re hustling backwards when we’re putting top 5, top 10, and top 20 matchups at noon to then show an unranked matchup or a ranked team beat the breaks off an unranked team who has no chance at night

I think at a certain point we have to just accept 11 am slot as the old 630 ABC slot and lean into it as the premier Big Ten game. I prefer night games for atmosphere there's no doubt, but having a big studio show outside the stadium with Gus (for better or worse) on the mic and the high production values should start being seen as a cool thing to get because it's not changing anytime soon if Fox holds the rights.

Imagine if they ran the Kentucky Derby at noon and then followed it up with all of the lesser races. I understand why this happens with the current TV deal, but that doesn't make it any more logical...

And has done forever. I understand that a 11 a.m. kick in CT seems a tad early. I grew up with noon kickoffs in ET and never thought anything of it.

A couple Saturdays ago was watching the Big Noon Kickoff game from Salt City (Utah v TT), however, and it occurred to me (since I don't believe I'd ever seen it) that a 10 a.m. kickoff is fairly ridiculous.

Am I mis-remembering or were games (way) back in the day at 1pm? I know in the modern world with triple- and quadruple-headers on TV that will not happen, but that was peak college ball kickoff in my mind. Tailgate before, shorter tailgate after, home at a reasonable hour. Or to the bars, depending on your goals for the night!

Way back when, several college football games weren't on any TV. If that was the case, kickoff was 1 p.m. I'm sure Loren Tate at Steve Kelly could give a better history on Saturday Sportsline on WDWS.

There were 1:00 games sometimes back in the day. There was the 11:00 window (ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPN Plus), the 2:30 window (national games) & we would occasionally get a 1:00 game. I think some of those were not on TV at all or maybe just in the Champaign market on ESPN+ or Raycom prior to that. Prior to 1991 I lived in the Quincy area & I know there were a fair # of Illini games that we did not see even with cable. Lots of radio broadcasts back then.

What's real crazy before the mid/late 80's the tv rules were absurdly restrictive & a team could only appear on national tv a limited # of times per year. So even power programs would only be seen nationally on tv a few times a year

I also think the Big Ten could tweak their schedule a bit to: 1) add a few conference games in the first 3 weeks, and 2) make sure that there is a marque matchup every week by moving a few games around after the initial schedule is allocated, and it is generally known which teams will be the strongest. Just looking at the next two weeks. There are three games between title/CFP contenders on the 11th and nothing this weekend

And to be clear, I personally accepted this a while ago ... just saying the rigidity of it seems unnecessary to me. If you were to read back to some of my more random and pointless arguments on here, you'd see I am actually fully onboard with de-mystifying the "College Gameday" designation and just accepting that Big Noon Kickoff effectively IS the Big Ten's version of that these days, with that not changing anytime soon. So if Illinois playing at 11:00 am means a ton of eyeballs and ideally a great showcase of the gameday scene in Champaign in front of millions who might not be that familiar with everything Memorial Stadium and Illini Football have to offer, then I am definitely okay with that.

The only reason I brought it up is that I think FOX should have 1-2 games per year where they "flex" their Big Noon Kickoff spot to be for a night game. Hell, with how late they announce TV slots these days, they could literally plan it out for a relatively weak SEC slate, if competition with ABC primetime is an issue. FOX is running the show even over our other two networks, so I'm sure they can pull some levers to have NBC be at 11:00 am on 1-2 weeks. In other words, if FOX is going to be our premier network - and they are - I think in our current reality they should maybe trade something like one of their first round picks for the ability to switch timeslots with NBC for at least one weekend per year. I know the reason they aren't doing that is they try to get some of the West Coast teams on at later times, but I'm just saying that this would be the ideal situation.

We are the opposite. I love it when I'm in the Pacific timezone and watching college football.

I can actually stay up for most of the late games. I can't come close to staying awake when in the central timezone.

Agreed with the TV watching. I've never lived in PST but when I lived in MST I loved watching ball at mid-morning on the weekends.

I was referring to actually attending a game. A 10 a.m. kickoff is ludicrous.
