Things that I think will happen:

1. We will have a poor non-conference record

2. We will finish top 4 in the B1G

3. We will go to the sweet 16

This is Brad’s “Izzo” year. Get challenged, develop, hit our stride in 2025 & be a machine come March…

Go Illini.

And if this happens it will hopefully get BU his first B1G COY. He deserves one and this year would be a great time to get it.

I wouldn’t mind being those Izzy teams from the mid 2010s. Always lost 3-4 games in the non-conference and then would make big tourney runs. Sign me up for that.

Cause we have an insane schedule. Did ya’ll see what Duke just did to ASU? glad that game is in February because they are NCAA champs front runner in my opinion. The second closet team might be Alabama and then UConn. But Duke might be far ahead of the 2nd team.

Well, just watched the first 10 minutes of the game until we were down 20 - my reaction was that it wasn't as bad as the score indicated. Sometimes you just run into a buzzsaw. We have a lot to improve upon, but I think we will be OK.

Right now this team is not a tournament team. Not saying they won't be by the end, but right now they're not. We've got long ways to go. We damn-sure ain't winning any of those 3 non con games tenn, ark, bama. think that's pretty safe to circle in.
And since the end is all that matters for the actual tournament, the statement is meaningless.

I guess all comments in these post game threads are meaningless. Im curious when comments become meaningful on this board.
Plenty are meaningful, but saying "we are not a tournament team now but might be later" has no meaning. If instead you say you don't think we project as a tournament team, that's a different story. That has meaning.

Kylan had a really rough game also, however, I'm going to be a bit lenient offensively as while he did turn the ball over, most seemed to be due to him not knowing where his teammates were going to be, which I'm not going to get upset about in an exhibition. It's why you play them. He also made some decent passes and had some good takes off the dribble, so I think potential is there, just going to take some time to build chemistry and gel. His defense though was fairly low energy as you said. His advanced stats suggested him to be a just under average defender with Arizona but with potential to improve. This game though wasn't it. Brad's going to need to get more from him on that side of the ball.

My Top 5 players from the scrimmage:
1. KJ
2. DGL
3. Ivisic
4. Morez
5. Ty (awful offense, very good defense)
Have to disagree on KJ.

This is the only time that I've never seen him play and it's only an exhibition, but my first impression is one of disappointment.

He looked over matched athletically, he was extraordinarily careless with the ball and his shot selection was really bad.

This was only a lousy exhibition game, but not sure how you put him as a top performer.

Rewatching the game right now. The first half is rough for two reasons, we didn’t close out on threes causing ole miss to catch fire and the other is us on offense. We seem to be running a pro-style offense however, our screens aren’t strong and precise. I have less panic after watching this game again. Learning to close out can happen quickly just as well as learning to set those screens just a little bit better to give our guys some true space to operate in.

Defensively, I really think we should really incorporate some of that Syracuse 1-3-1 and 3-2 zone into our D. We are really built for it.

Also, I would put some money on it that DGL starts eventually. Anyone want to give me odds ? lol

Comments on this board are never meaningful because we're all a bunch of doofuses commenting on a message board.

Very meaningfully said

In rewatching the game, I noticed that the game consisted of Ole Miss blitzing the Illini for the first 14 or so minutes, but the last 26 minutes the Illini actually outscored them by 5 points. Obviously, they will have to avoid those huge runs, but I choose to be encouraged that the teams were pretty evenly matched for over a half. There is plenty to see that needs work, but there are also positives from the first go at another really good team (in a game that doesn't even count on the record, and the first NCAA game for some important cogs.) If they played like the first 14 minutes for the whole game, and the Illini lost by 40, I might see it differently. JMHO

This statement is based off contempt rather than any ounce of fact.

Since the end is all that matters, why were we in then in 2022 losing our last 4 games, really having no good performances, no quad 1 wins for pretty much the entire latter half of the slate? - Because we had wins over two 2 seeds in November.

Why was Texas A&M out yet having a bunch of great performances in the latter half, ranked wins, making the SECT final, etc? - Because of having a bunch of cupcake Ls in November/December.

Couldn't possibly be more wrong lol.

The only thing that concerned me about this exhibition is our complete lack of offensive cohesion- I know it’s about of new faces but it literally looked like it was the first time they played together. Give the ball to Kasparas and let him create something is not an offense

We should have some set plays or something to get guys some looks when we’re facing pressure D like that. We did not look like a well coached team- at all

I probably should've stated it but I'm judging versus different standards and where the players are at for their age due it being an exhibition. For KJ, I do agree with you on his shot selection and distribution, but he actually impressed me more on the defensive side of the ball, not because he was good, but I thought his defense is actually much further along than expected. In my opinion he looked like a player who put forth effort, and has the frame to develop into a plus defender even if he isn't one right now. I think he needs to get used to the speed and physicality but with good coaching I can definitely see him becoming an average if not plus defender by the end of the season based on what I saw out of him today. On offense, I think he clearly showed off his vision and ability to make space for himself, and I think he primarily struggled with knowing where his teammates were going to be and the physicality of Ole Miss.

DGL definitely had the best all around game and was the best overall player for Illinois, no arguments there, I just saw KJ as actually performing really well for a freshman in that environment and displayed a higher ceiling that will become apparent with more experience as the season progresses.

Just rewatched the game. Few things that I think should be noted that I haven’t seen much…

We missed a LOT of free throws. Even from some of our guards. Something that (hopefully) can be cleaned up a bit. Left at least 3-4 points on the board.

Didn’t get out on shooters in that big run by Ole Miss. Last 30 minutes of the game was basically a wash.

Lot of run outs by Ole Miss on turnovers. Need to get back on defense/ take care of the ball

Kylan & KN both got cute with too many passes. Need to clean that up.

All in all, not as bad as when you first watched live. For a brand new team, they did a lot of good things. Just about everything that happened can be fixed. We might be ok.

For as much nonsense that poster spreads on this board... it means that right now we aren't playing like one. "Might be later" means there's a possibility for improvement.

BU also said Tomi wouldn’t play in this one initially I believe. Then, like you said, few days ago it was reported that he would. Evidently got clarification that he could play without it being an issue to eligibility down the line.

For those thinking the change in Tomi’s status for the exhibition bodes well for Tomi’s clearance being imminent, might not be the case. Oregon St had exhibition on Saturday and overseas player who is waiting like Tomi also played. I guess that could mean both are on the verge of being cleared, but I think it is just as likely NCAA just provided clarification on whether they could play with no issue.
FREE TOMI!

Good Thing about Freshmen is they become Soph.

It is not about who starts a game but more from who finishes games.

Most teams/years is about the process and putting improvement in place everyday to have the most separation from where you began to the end.

Win each day and 1% gain each day.

Sit back , blame no one, ride the process and you win as a team and lose as a team. Hard work gets rewarded. NONE of us can coach at the BIG TEN level and get a paycheck for very long.
