I've said this for several seasons. He's a good to great recruiter. But his in game stuff is mediocre at best. Our best offense is typically one on one and guys making individual plays. Defensively, he's just far too stubborn. Stays with stuff that doesn't work for way too long.

The offense is not the problem ... We're like top 5 in the nation ...

The rest ... I agree ...

I haven’t read the 19 pages but I hope there isn’t anyone trying to defend the staff at this point. This is one of the most poorly coached Illini teams I’ve ever seen. Loads of talent, but the way games start and end is on the coaching staff and this team does both poorly. How many years before we can reliably inbound the ball?

I would love to be in that locker room! Brad needs to look in the mirror.

Poor offensive scheme
Poor defensive scheme
Horrible in bounds plays
No point guard

These guys have busted their rears. To think we can work with such a short bench is crazy. You can’t play balls out when you know you will not get a blow. We were in physically and mentally exhausted which leads to poor decisions on the court.

Maybe we can drink a double shot of beet juice at half time.
Their top 5 minutes leaders played 30 more than our top 5. It was not a question of physical exhaustion. Mental exhaustion? THAT you may be able to convince me of - players AND coaches.

I didn't watch, but the box score sure makes it seem like CH lost us the game in the last 0:18.

No. Well, yeah. But no.

Team defense and CoHawk's last gasps finished the job, but the loss happened earlier. With TSJ unleashing hell on Penn State, Domask decided to try his hand and in very short order gave us a turnover, a foul, a miss, and another turnover. The game should have been out of hand, but instead the team had the ground shift under them as the lead went from 11 to 7 to..

Mathematically, we rebounded well enough down the stretch to not lose. However, weren't Terrence and Coleman the only two Illini to touch a rebound in the last five minutes of the game? With the personnel chosen to be on the floor, that feels rather significant.

My patience is spent. I'll give a little "woo hoo" if they win a share of the regular season title in this absolutely abysmal league. If I have anything left to give when the NCAA tournament rolls around, I'll pour it out for this team and the wonderful individuals on it.

You know what I hope, though? I hope that every player on this team is happy where they find themselves next year. I see now that I have been so, so wrong assuming that almost every kid is better off playing at Illinois. Kids have come here to WIN, and by luck or by other forces, some that are capable of making that happen just don't get the chance to make that happen.

Yet another really BAD loss....

This loss plays completely on the coaching staff. A decent H.S. player could drive the basket on this defense.. The Ref's allowed a World Wrestling match to the Penn hackers and bashers and swallowed their whistles. But this loss on NO DEFENSE!

Again? Where was Dain Dainja tonight?? Is he sick? I did not see him on the bench??

Why when we are up 10 with about 10.minutes left is Goode in the game? To shoot 3s he shouldn't take? Makes zero sense. If we in bound to domask we win this game. Period! Sure Hawkinsxshould make the FT, not foul and TSJ not get picked but if Domask is catching the in bounds and not throwing it in we win the damn game
Period. Its not that complicated . Why have leaders and maturity and not lean on it?

Coleman is a good player but karna came full circle tonight. I thought he was gonna miss the FTs but that foul was nuts. I wish Harmon had hit that shot to cover him

I think BU is a really good coach but I refuse to entertain the idea that he has what it takes to get us back to the Self era level. Been great in conference but awful in March. Hope he gets to sweet 16 and proves me wrong.
I've been a BU supporter from Day 1. But it seems like we reach a certain pinnacle and then come tumbling down. We can't quite get over the hump. So a couple of related honest questions for our insiders. Will Morez be here next season if Brad isn't? Will Fears still come if Brad isn't here? This may mean Brad leaves of his own free will or for other reasons. Just curious. Thank you for all your information and deep dives.

You think this group gave 100% of themselves both physically and mentally tonight?

You think Coleman and Harmon were "locked in"?

These are all seniors. This shouldn't happen.....ever, much less multiple times in a season.
I think overall the guys have given their all. If they are not preforming or giving excellent effort it should be a$& meet bench. When do we do that?

I would not want to be in that locker room. Can only imagine what Brad said to them, especially Coleman
I normally agree with you but this is not something the players haven't heard. We are 2/3 through the season and the defense isn't getting better.

We don't have a wild card Matthew Meyer, we don't have locker room issues (publicly) and we have a real all American in TSJ that is back, and a second alpha in terms of extremely productive MD. We also have an (apparently) pro in Coleman and yet our defense is so bad that bottom of the league teams beat us. A total lack of defensive identity is completely the antithesis of what I've known since the 70's (generally) watching the beloved.

I'm not flaming but a legitimate question is simply what is going on from a leadership perspective? It is not working in the way we would expect given the roster we have.

Just a shame we can’t even put together a middling defense. Doesn’t matter what the end of season awards say, there aren’t 5, probably aren’t 3 better players in CBB than TJ this year. Just an absolute shame it looks like we are going to waste it.

I love CH but seemed to have no interest on playing D tonight. Then he culminated it all by fouling a 3 point shooter with game on the line.

Justin got beat time after time on back doors and was jumping at everything

A disappointing loss for certain. But I look at things a bit differently than the "sky is falling crew". This team has always been vulnerable to two things...mindless blunders and poor FT shooting...and not from the usual suspects as DD was 2 for 2 and Ty did not shoot any. TSJr., Q, and CoHawk were 13/22. They also had 10 turnovers and MD added 4. Most of those were senseless blunders by our "old men" who know better. Big price to pay as the loss likely takes a B1G title out of range. Other than turns and throws, and some defensive lapses, there were many good minutes.

But what most Illini supporters do not consider is that the game the PSU TEAM played a great game and deserved the victory. They hit good shots and difficult shots and made a ton of great defensive plays. They are a solid B1G team full of athletes who play hard and to win. Sure, they do not have the experience or skills of our guys, but one has to know the "any given night" mantra that has been seen hundreds of times in every conference...none more than the B1G.

I am as chagrined as any Illini fan, but if weaknesses are identified, addressed, and strengthened, this game could be a catalyst for achievement instead of a death sentence. As an Illini fan for seven decades, I have witnessed hundreds of Illini disappointments. But this is one of the most talented and potentially great Illini teams of that time. All I have to say to them is believe in yourselves, learn, and get better as a team....you are as good as any, but the path to where you want to be takes focus and hard work. Get busy...the pieces are there.

Seriously, I’m over Brad. He makes the dumbest coaching moves I’ve ever seen, and he’s too stubborn to change them. When is everyone going to see that. He has the most talented B1G team and can’t coach them.

He plays Goode way too much and keeps him in during crunch time. Goode is an huge liability. Also, he keeps having Domask bring the ball up. He almost turns it over every time. And the football out of bounds play doesn’t work Brad!

Awful coaching.

OK. I've read through the first 15 pages of this thread and couldn't wait anymore to see if anybody has commented on the at least two layups that Domask missed near the end of the game. If we are nit picking on why we lost, those misses are certainly part of it.

Domask is one of the last things I would put the blame on ... We put A LOT on him ... Every single game ...

Coleman spent all week talking :poop: ... Then played like absolute :poop: tonight ...

Where has Quincy been? That dude has fallen off the face of the earth ... Has absolutely disappeared for like the last month ...

And we all know about the defense ...

Domask and TJ were the only reason we didn't lose by 20 tonight ... We didn't have a single other guy get double figures ...
