I'll go you 1 better. Owen Freeman same team at Moline Illinois 6.10ft averaging 11pts and 7 rebounds per game. Same team in Illinois and he's crushed it at Iowa as Freshman and we did not recruit him. ?No point guard? Did you know last years Mr Basketball in Illinois high school was a point guard, won a state championship in 4A , was the tourney mvp , and has a brother who plays baseball at Illinois. I don’t believe we recruited him at all. McCaffery got him at Iowa.
I wouldn't put Ty in the elite ball handling/decision making bucket yet. He's also a non factor offensively and while his foul shooting has improved, I'm not sure that he's a guy I want toeing the foul stripe in a must make situation.Or I don't know, Brad could just play Ty, the PG he opted to go with this season. Hard to cast blame of our losses on not having a PG when we refuse to play our PG down the stretch. Maybe Brad would bench RayJ the final minutes of games also. That would make as much sense as what he's doing with Ty.
I feel like we actually do this a lot of the time and have no issues breaking the press. But then we inexplicably leave Marcus on his own to slowly back his way downcourt and he gets doubled or strippedThe Domask dribbling the ball 500x between his legs, to then dribble to the sideline after crossing half court to get trapped isn’t the answer or the way it has to be.
Maybe bring some guys to the ball in middle of floor and pass in backcourt into front court. Use the height of Coleman, TJ, etc.
Brad dropped the ball on personnel and you gotta be more creative that what we had to watch tonight.
Ha that's just as far back as the KenPom data goes.Whaaat?! Are you slagging Lon?
Looks like we’d better see some numbers on that. I’m not saying I don’t believe you…but I’m not sure I believe you.
Brad should also yell at himself.I would not want to be in that locker room. Can only imagine what Brad said to them, especially Coleman
Bring back the baggy shorts! Maybe not this baggy though
While this is true, you’re ignoring the biggest and most glaring issue here — DEFENSEBingo
Coolio! I was hoping that’s what u meant.Ha that's just as far back as the KenPom data goes.
Our AdjD right now is 99.9. The only Illinois teams with worse AdjD than this one were:
2019: 101.1
2018: 103.0
2016: 103.0
Not ignoring it at all. It is definitely a big time problem. Running out of time to fix it, has to start against IowaWhile this is true, you’re ignoring the biggest and most glaring issue here — DEFENSE
I wonder if Kruger is looking for a job?Coolio! I was hoping that’s what u meant.
(Love me some Lon Kruger.)
I realize this was a demoralizing loss and we’re all angry, but the reason we didn’t recruit either of those two guys is because we recruited BETTER guys. Time will prove that outI'll go you 1 better. Owen Freeman same team at Moline Illinois 6.10ft averaging 11pts and 7 rebounds per game. Same team in Illinois and he's crushed it at Iowa as Freshman and we did not recruit him. ?
Unfortunately, unless the Illini win out (including winning at Wisconsin and vs Purdue), some on this board will continue to bring up this debacle (as well as the home loss to MD). Just the nature of this board. That was just insane. Not only did we crumble, but Penn State needed about ten separate things to go their way still to win and it did. Let's move on, and hope they play some semblance worth of defense the rest of the way. If they do, they can make a deep run.
Let's all make a pact to never talk about this game again after we beat Iowa on Saturday please
I think we all agree that we don’t have a true PG. We are going to have more turnovers because of that but hopefully our rebounding advantage offsets that or gives us the advantage. You need to look at the total picture with the pieces we have. If everyone got what they wanted then everyone would win the championship. The coaches need to work with what they have. We are doing better than most in the new NIL world, so I’m personally happy as a fan but I would like a national championship as much as everyone else. I don’t want to go backwards though because of unrealistic expectations.I wouldn't put Ty in the elite ball handling/decision making bucket yet. He's also a non factor offensively and while his foul shooting has improved, I'm not sure that he's a guy I want toeing the foul stripe in a must make situation.
I can at least comprehend that thought process...whether I agree or disagree with it.
